I can finally unveil this personal project! My comic version of chapter one of The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, which I finally managed to get to shortly after SOTR came out. This was a unique project for me that I've been working on, on and off, for the past year or so. Lots and lots of fun, although I did mess up in some parts (typesetting :') ) and the limited color pallette was a unique challenge. Rest of the chapter under the cut! Hope you enjoy :)

knowledge long forgotten
got really into reading item descriptions on this playthrough. anyway did you know the silent princess is one of the only raw materials with a cooking effect to not explicitly list that effect in its description

If people threw as many stigmatised diagnoses at Zuko that they throw at Azula:
The DSM V criteria for Anti Social Personality Disorder is as follows:
Failure to conform to social norms concerning lawful behaviors, such as performing acts that are grounds for arrest.
Deceitfulness, repeated lying, use of aliases, or conning others for pleasure or personal profit.
Impulsivity or failure to plan.
Irritability and aggressiveness, often with physical fights or assaults.
Reckless disregard for the safety of self or others.
Consistent irresponsibility, failure to sustain consistent work behavior, or honor monetary obligations.
Lack of remorse, indifference to or rationalizing having hurt, mistreated, or stolen from another person.
The person must suffer with at least three of these symptoms persistently by age 15. Zuko is 16.
One is a definite yes, he literally became a fugitive in season 2 for criminal betrayal of his beloved country. Two is a definite yes, he lies to Zhao about how his ship was damaged so the Fire Nation would not know that the Avatar was back. He became the Blue Spirit and freed Aang in order to capture him for himself. He did this because he wanted to be unbanished and to please Ozai. Three doesn't need an explanation, Iroh straight up calls him out for this. Four is super obvious. Number five, watch The Storm. Six, ehhhhh...Number seven could be argued before his redemption in season three.
So five out of seven symptoms and one debatable symptom. Lemme demonstrate this for Azula. For one, Azula never breaks any laws. Two is a yes but you could argue that it's for the Fire Nation's sake. Three is absolutely not, four too. Number five is no, she retreats fights she knows she cannot win. The only time she can be seen as reckless was when she had Ty Lee's safety net set on fire. Six is hell no. Seven is debatable, she shows clear remorse for hurting Ty Lee in The Beach for example.
Now does this sound like absolute bullshit? That's cuz it is. Stop trying to diagnose villains with mental illnesses you don't understand. Adding to the stigma is harmful for people that suffer from these illnesses.
Okay,

One day the world will acknowledge that "Ursa loved Azula" and "Azula didn't feel loved by Ursa" are not mutially exclusive sentences and the world will we beautiful then

Something that I think is important about Wyatt as a character is how he highlights the stupidity of the district system. I know that the human love of sorting ourselves into categories meant that every YA series for a while had a bunch of different groups with associated traits that tweens could take uquizzes about, but The Hunger Games isn't like Divergent or Harry Potter where young adults get grouped based on their personalities. Sure, the districts all have industries they're known for and the tributes are clearly shaped by wherever they grew up, but being born into District Four doesn't actually mean that you'll like fish. Wyatt is brilliant when it comes to numbers, but in District Twelve he can only channel that into gambling. Imagine if he'd been born into District Three with a father like Beetee, what he could have done with his mathematical talents. There's mention of it with Maysilee too, how she doesn't want to run the candy store but her options are that or the mines.
I guess what I'm saying is that the district system is great for keeping people oppressed because they see their fellows as "other," which is why it is a tool of fascism and not a practical way to run a society. It doesn't matter who is in what group, it matters that they internalize their group identity to the point that they ignore the similarities between them.

Suzanne Collin’s just said fuck you to everyone who’s ever critiqued the Hunger Games as being a “teen girl saves the day” story. She said oh, Mockingjay didn’t make it clear enough? Here’s a book about how people have been rebelling for decades only to have their efforts suppressed and propagandized. Rebellion takes time and it takes failure and Katniss may have been the spark that ignited the wildfire but she did so standing atop the doused flames of everyone who came before her.
