Challenge 1: Investigation, Start!

Tuna: Alright everyone. I'm sure you've at least skimmed the memo.

Tuna: I'm in charge of the lot of you, try not to be too excited. Ha.

Tuna: The task is simple. Just gotta find and retrieve this light thing. Alive. Not quite sure how you'd even kill it, though.

Tuna: It was set to be part of some gameshow as a gimmick, but the show didn't even get to start production 'coz it went missing.

Tuna: At the very least, we know it made it on set before escapin' it's containment and bookin' it to who knows where.

Tuna: Reportedly, it was kept somewhere in the basement.

Tuna: Problem is, said basement is a buncha connected rooms full of random junk.

Tuna: You'd think the show's host would be able to give us a bit of guidance.

Tuna: It owns the building, after all.

Tuna: And was going to start production on a show soon.

Tuna: But-

A napkin is blown loudly. As in, like someone's just blowing air into it, and not actually blowing a nose.

???: HOW EVER AM I TO GO ON FROM THIS?!

???: My beautiful gimmick, taken from us too soon!

???: It was too young! How am I to make back the money I invested in all this?!

???: I'm too young! Too young to be so financially ruined! Woe!! Woe is me!!!

???: Just get out a shovel, dig me my grave! Gimme a nice coffin, I want it closed casket, spacious with little pillows…

Tuna: So this is the host, and our client, the Dark. Like, all of it.

Dark: That's my name! Don't wear it out! Please!! It's all I have left!!!

Tuna: It just keeps spouting unhelpful nonsense, and dressed up weird.

Dark: Am I not allowed to mourn?! I've lost it all! Oh, how am I supposed to face my wife and kids now!?

Tuna: … You're married?

Dark: ▪️ Absolutely not! No ring could could EVER hold me down! My love is solely for getting those ratings up and up!

Tuna: So you lied.

Dark: Err… Such harsh accusations to a mourning individual…

Dark: No sympathy at all? I thought this would work well… This test run is going so bad, what am I to do if I can't milk the viewer's pity into the delectable beverage of fame…!

Tuna: Don't say it like that.

Tuna: Ugh. It's yet to drop the self-pitying schtick and tell us anything useful. Potential whereabouts, what to expect inside the building, anything like that.

Dark: The answer is SIMPLE! I'm as CLUELESS as you!

Dark: I acquired this lot through an opportune company merger. Only learned after that this spot has been passed around shows like a hot potato for ages, and no one ever bothers to clean up after themselves!

Dark: To uphold such time honored traditions, I did not look myself. And the gimmick of my wonderful show, it was going to be GREAT I tell you. I would've SWEPT the competition right out of the water, it was so new and unique and other words for really good here.

Tuna: … Right. Great. Really believe everything you've said so far.

Tuna: So team, I'm splittin' you up into two groups. No need for fancy names, so you'll just be Team A and Team B. I'm giving you different priorities to focus on, but if you think you needa do a bit of the other task to accomplish your main one, be my guest.

Team A's prioritized task is to investigate the building.

Tuna: Who knows what you'll find down there. If that story about those basements being filled with a random gameshow things is true, proceed with some caution. You know how dangerous things on those shows can be.

Team B's prioritized task is to interrogate the Darkness.

Tuna: Surely it can say something useful to the situation at hand. Where it was at the time the Light escaped, how this could've even happened, whatever. I don't care how you go about getting information out of it, do whatever you feel is right. Just know, it likes to lie. A lot. Good luck sifting through the clear contradictions for scraps of the truth.

host post -> Any posts that I make from this blog. story post -> Any story related post. This means the challenge related posts! Challenges will be tagged with "challenge x", with x being the number it is. Relevant entries to that challenge will be tagged with that.

Challenge 0: Cast reveal!

Not an actual challenge, but this is the beginning to the story and camp. Begins under the cut.

The large looming door loses its sinister effect after a while.

Repeatedly being called up to the boss's office over what could’ve been an email had a tendency to do that.

Tuna entered into her boss's office.

It never got easier to try and distinguish things in this darkness. The glaring light of the various screens at the end of the room might've illuminated more if it weren't for the boss blocking out most with their huge body.

She could vaguely see the patchwork of shelves and stands nestled between computer rigs. Making out their contents would've taken the excruciating effort of asking the boss about their trophies, and distraction was something she'd rather not encourage while attempting to do her job.

As always, she focused on the floor: Avoiding the long black cords strewn about were of the utmost importance. They were either stray wires, or part of the boss. Neither were things Tuna particularly wanted to step on.

She knows the boss knows she's there, but they don't acknowledge her even once she stands right behind them.

Ugh.

Tuna: Reporting, boss. What didja want?

The dark mass of object limbs turns. Both know that it doesn't need to, but "it quote makes people more comfortable when it at least acts like that sort of thing matters".

With sets of hands on every keyboard littering the area, Tuna doesn't even bother guessing which is the pair responsible for typing out what it's saying. The text to speech voice it uses today is one of the older models, heavily robotic but still comprehensible.

Limbs: [Hi Tuna. Smile Face.]

Limbs: [No need to be so formal. Ha Ha.]

Tuna: (sigh) It's best to stay professional while on the clock, Limbs.

Limbs: [Aw. I am well aware. This is very serious. Seerious. Serious! Serious!]

It fiddles with the settings a bit to have a bit more emphasis on serious. It puts so much focus into this that it even turns back around to the screens, hunching over the exact keyboard responsible.

:tuna: I'll live without a perfect pronunciation. The reason I'm here, please.

It jolts up straight, eyes temporarily visible as the limbs raise.

:limbs: [Oh right. Right right right. ]

It shifts a bit so that the largest center screen is unobscured by it. Quickly exiting out of a paused game (Something with colorful fruit balls…?), Limbs opens up a case file. From what Tuna can immediately skim, it's something about fetching some sentient light thing that escape some show that was to enter production. The wording of the request seems exceptionally frantic and desperate, written completely in upper case.

Limbs: [New case. Very important.]

Tuna: The pay that good?

Limbs: [Not really.]

Tuna: Oh.

Limbs: [But I think it's important. So! Let me show you the team I picked to handle it. Smile Face.]

Limbs: [First off… ]

Sinker

Limbs: [A fish! Like you! Should do well at anything!]

Tuna: That's a fish…?

Limbs: [Rude!?! Haha, maybe you need the professionalism reminders!]

Daisy Dickory

Limbs: [She's like a toy!]

Tuna: Ain't that infantilizing? C'mon.

Limbs: [Ok, how about this? I like her ribbon! Very pretty!]

Tuna: Not really hunt worthy criteria, but better. I guess.

Cup and Darjeeling

Tuna: Wait, you're counting these together as one?

Limbs: [Do not separate! A joint set!]

Tuna: I don't know if that should count as a formal explanation to why.

Limbs: [I'll figure out later something better to put on paper…]

Limbs: [I just think it's so sweet how close they are! Awww!]

Ms.Cuttle

:tuna: Good control over earth stuff, huh? See, now that's useful.

:limbs: [Two apples!!! Only two tall!!!]

:tuna: Eh… Weird measurement system, but sure.

Cugine

Tuna: Ah, finally. This one looks serious. Oughta be reliable.

Limbs: [Cranky and blue. Also like you. Hehe.]

Tuna: C'mon.

Angelion

Tuna: A capable sword wielder, huh? Should be all set if a fight comes up.

Limbs: [I love the attitude!!! Dedicated to the job!!!]

Tuna: Didja just pick it 'coz it's-

Limbs: [CUTE CUTE CUTE CUTE CUTE CUTE CUTE]

Tuna: Yeah, figures.

CLASSIFIED

Tuna: Not reassuring her traps are described on file as 'flimsy'…?

Limbs: [He has a lovely personality! I just know they can do it! Smile!]

Tuna: Generous learning opportunity, then.

Soppy

Tuna: Ah, someone with some gameshow experience.

Limbs: [Even though the light's show never started, I think this should be close enough to it's wheelhouse!]

Limbs: [Maybe this will be good for it! It's so sad! Breaks my heart. Sad face.]

Tuna: … Do you even have one of those…?

OBJECTS IN MIRROR ARE CLOSER THAN THEY APPEAR

Tuna: Are we sure they're even real?

Limbs: [I BELIEVE! We're paying someone, that's for sure!]

Limbs: [Who can argue with her perfect track record anyways!]

Tuna: Uh…

Lucian

Tuna: Oh. A light guy.

Limbs: [Like the light!]

Tuna: Yeah. Fighting fire with fire?

Limbs: [Was thinking more like takes one to know one.]

Tuna: Makes a surprising amount of sense.

Beehaw Jazzbee [BK-JB_2]

Tuna: And the bug catching skillset is relevant to a literal piece of light?

Limbs: [Some bugs glow! Maybe there's a connection!]

Limbs: [She's very cute! I believe in her!! She can do it!!!]

Dibella and V

Tuna: Capable and serious hunters, that's good.

Limbs: [The little computer is so cute!]

Tuna: Not the word I'd use for an A.I. that helps the trained killer do killing, but to each their own.

Schrodinger's Box

Limbs: [I've always wondered what's inside!]

Tuna: I feel like that shouldn't be checked.

Limbs: [And that's all fourteen of them! Your thoughts?]

Tuna: (Shrugs) Eh, yeah. Think they'll be fine for it. Bit of a large crew for such a low priority case, but if ya say so, then it'll be so.

Limbs: [It's serious! It's very serious they are successful. I am taking no chances.]

Limbs: [It's why you are going to be in charge of them!]

Tuna: I- WHAT? Tuna: Boss, yknow I'm overqualified-

Limbs: [Which is good for this! You deserve something easy after everything!]

Limbs: [And with you, I can rest assure that this won't fail.]

They pat Tuna on her head with a multitude of limbs.

Limbs: [It's why you're my second-in-command after all. Smile Face.]

Tuna half-heartedly waves the hands off her.

Tuna: … Sure. Thanks.

Tuna: And why are you putting so much… investment… into such a small fry case?

Limbs: [Well. Look.]

They click around a bit. Now, on every screen display, is the target: A small piece of smiling, sentient, pure light. Limbs: [You see?]

Tuna: … I see the target. What's this supposed to prove…? Limbs: [It's. it well look it very it it very very c cc c]

The failure to type the thought coherently is the first warning.

A deep inhale from the entirety of Limbs' body is the second warning Tuna gets to what's about to happen, but it's not like she can react. Even if she did have ears to cover, it probably would've been a deep sign of disrespect towards her superior. That, and it wouldn't do much against the sound.

Limbs (joyfully): CUTE!!!!!!!!!! VERY CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The boss's many discordinated and various voices all lacked any sort of volume control at all as it spoke.

Limbs (joyfully): WANT !! IT !!!

Limbs (joyfully): CAN TOUCH !! SOFT ?! FUZZ ?! CUUUTE CUTE CUUUTE !!! !!

Tuna lets them gush for a bit. The writhing and squirming of limbs is a necessary process to get it to calm down. Despite the risk it poses to the delicate equipment.

Tuna: That's nice and all, but not an actual justification for the records.

Limbs (joyfully): GEEH. Gehe. Heee.

Limbs: [Your concern is always appreciated, Tuna. But rest assured, on record I remain completely professional. Smile Face.] Limbs: [My reasoning on paper doesn't have any of my personal feelings there.]

Limbs: [You'll see when you get back to your office and review the documents yourself.]

Limbs: [Which, you can go do now. You're dismissed.]

Limbs: [Bye byeeeeeeeeeeee. Smile Face. And have fun!]

With a curt nod, Tuna exits the room.

… Great… In charge of an oversized group of random, haphazardly selected fools for an overkill task. At least she got to actually be in charge of something.

Now, to prepare them a proper briefing on their first task at hand…

The premise is simple: There's this sentient little light that's escaped the show it was meant to be on, and it's your character's job as a Hunter to get it back! After all, the Hunter's guild is responsible for sending out groups to go capture these strange anomalities for the sake of game shows.

FTL is an OC camp that accepts both serious and silly stories! With two weeks for entries and five days for break in between challenges, the camp is slow paced with roughly ~16 challenges planned out.

There are no eliminations, and no expectations for people to stick around until the end. Dropping out is fine, because if someone leaves it means there'll be a debut round! Additionally, there'll be a few collab challenges.

Don't want to participate? Not to worry, spectating is welcome and encouraged! Plus, viewers will get to vote at certain instances to have some influence over how the camp goes. Plus plus, you get to see all the cool entries people will make…!
