hi! i have my top surgery consult with mcevenue at the macclean clinic in a few days and i was wondering what to expect? there's not a whole lot of info about consults on their website and i was wondering if i should expect an chest exam, what the wait times are looking like for nov consults, etc? thank you!
I went to the McLean Clinic so I’ll talk about my experience there.
My consultation was pretty straightforward, I met with dr McLean and we discussed why I wanted surgery, he examined my chest to determine the best procedure then we went over some of the details of surgery (dr McLean drew out the process of the surgery). We also talked a bit about risks and how much time I’d need to have off of work. By the time it got to me being able to ask questions, all my questions had been anaswered. After seeing dr McLean I was able to talk to Liz about a surgery date.
I’m not sure what the wait times are like now but I had waited 5-6 months from my consultation to my surgery date.
Hope this helps.

Hey I asked a question about McLean a couple months ago and I've got an update with dates Basically I had my consult in June 2018 and called the clinic a couple days ago to book a date for surgery (they told me to call mid november) and my DI with mcevenue is on March 1! So I'd say I had to wait about year because I booked the consultation in February. Btw if anyone had a consultation in this last year and was told to call in November, call now because they are already super booked!
Thanks for the information/update.

Hi there, I have a friend who is not a Canadian citizen and is living in Ontario. He does not have OHIP. He went to several clinics but unfortunately they will not take in someone who isn't covered by OHIP. He is now considering ordering Testosterone online. Would you know of any reliable online sources to order Testosterone? Or any suggestions for people who do not have OHIP. Thank you!
Ordering and taking Testosterone off the internet is not safe and your friend should definitely not do that (like any other medication, it should be monitored by a healthcare professional)
What I would suggest is looking for organisations and clinics that provide healthcare to immigrants and new Canadians as they’re usually able to provide care to those not covered by OHIP, and approach them about whether or not they would be able to connect your friend with transition related services.
Any suggestions from our followers for this one?

I’m 22 and have been struggling with my identity for a few years now and have come to terms with being trans. I’ve been constantly telling myself to wait to transition because I don’t want to disappoint or shock my family, friends and even coworkers- as I am so scared of how awkward things will be and I work in a field where customers are extremely judgemental. But I just told my mom I can’t wait any longer and want to start transitioning ASAP. Anyone know the process in Windsor, Ontario?
A good place to start your medical transition is by talking to your family doctor or primary healthcare provider!
Also I’ve heard good things about Windsor Essex Trans Support, they should also be able to connect you with transition resources!

Hi, i want to start transitioning (be on T) this summer. if you dont mind me asking, who is your Dr that prescribes you T? if not can you suggest some.
my family doctor prescribed me t with very little fuss and any family doctor should in theory, be able to prescribe it for you. If they’re not experienced/comfortable doing so, they often will be able to refer you to someone who is.
If you’re in the GTA you also have some options at various clinics so check through our testosterone tag!

Hi, so I am trans ftm and I will be living in Canada on a study permit this year in September. I'm not Canadian but I would like to transition in Canada. I will transition once I'm 18, I'm only turning 17 this year. But I will be in Ontario and I was wondering how many months on Testosterone do you need to be before you get any surgeries done? Sorry if you have got this question before, I'm just curious.
As far as I know, most surgeons in Ontario don’t actually require you to be on t before you have top surgery!

Just wanted to say that for anyone wondering. The wait times for Dr. Mario Jarmuske in Ottawa for surgery is about 5 months. Right now they are book surgery dates for the fall. And I got my consult appointment for about a month after I called
Thanks :)

Anywhere in London Ontario & area to start hormone therapy other than the SOFT clinic.. was on T from the soft clinic but have not gone back cause it just didn't feel right... thanks!
If you were already on T, any doctor comfortable doing so would be able to maintain your prescription, if your family doctor isn't comfortable doing so, try asking to be referred to someone else, or take the necessary channels to find a new primary care provider-Mod Travis

Hey, I live in Newfoundland and I’m hoping to get top surgery this summer. I was wondering if you (or any of your followers) know of any surgeons who do the periareolar technique. I originally wanted to go to the McLean clinic but dr McLean doesn’t do peri. I know dr dupere in Toronto does peri but he has a very small selection of before and after pictures so I’m still iffy about him. Any advice would be appreciated!
Recently we posted a list of top surgeons, I would recommend going through the list and checking for yourselves which surgeons do peri.
As a sidenote, McLean does do keyhole, which is very similar to peri, and I’ve seen a lot of good results from him using that procedure (his insta is topsurgery and there are lots of pics on there in various stages of healing!)

I'm embarrassed to be trans. I live in a transphobic community, who people have been attacked for being trans so it isn't safe for me to be completely out. I have masculine hair and clothes but my voice doesn't match and I can't hide my chest enough. I feel like a disgrace to the trans community. Like I don't belong because I'm not trans I'm just a girl wearing guy clothes.
It sounds like you’re working through some internalized transphobia, which is super normal. If you say you’re trans, you’re trans. It’s not anyone else’s job to tell you if you are or aren’t trans enough. I can tell you’re in a difficult situation right now, but I can tell you from experience that it’s not forever. Remember that you’re not stuck in the same place forever, you can move and change.
The reality is, it’s not possible for every trans person to come out and transition and be themselves in every situation. I know I had to put my transition on hold for a while until I had the means to move myself into a safer situation. It’s hard, but it wasn’t forever.
I don’t know you or your situation, but I do know that you can plan a future where you’re able to live as yourself.
Feel free to message me on my personal @paparent-oh if you need to chat or want to vent.
Followers, can anyone throw this guy some positive vibes? I’ll post any responses we get provided they’re respectful and relevant.

RE: McClean clinic waiting times, my friend's top surgery was just pushed up in december because they got more surgeons and permission to double their surgery output, so it should be shorter now, but calling the clinic is definitely the best way to find out for sure!
