“Home is in my hair, my lips, my arms, my thighs, my feet and my hands. I am my own home. And when I wake up crying in the morning, thinking of how lonely I am, I pinch my skin, tug at my hair, remind myself that I am alive. Remind myself to step outside and greet the morning. Remind myself that it’s all …change. It’s all about…freedom.”

Wrote this like 6-7 years ago and posted it from my drafts on my personal blog.
It’s still relevant today! Why why why? I wanna be accepted not praised while my other sisters suffer for the same thing that makes us sisters. And now Amara came out and people are fetishizing us more 🤦🏽‍♀️ it’s just all bad.
As soon as I say I’m Latina, I’m praised as so exotic and so different by people it irritates me. Before you thought I was African American but now you know I’m Afro Latina and you see me as different? The only difference is the language my oppressors spoke and the country where they came from. My black ancestors came from AFRICA. Just like African Americans.

I understand how Hispanic and Latino can be confusing terms, but there’s too much free information out here these days to stay misinformed 🙄 Latina is not a race. I have African and European heritage and if I had been born in a Latin American country, I would be considered Latina. There are black Latinas. White Latinas. Indigenous Latinas. Most Latinos/as are a mix of all three, with varying percentages of each race based on the individual. Black Latinas exist.

We understand your frustration!
Don’t tell me where I’m from.
I live by the border and a lot of Mexicans tell Afro Latino & Caribbean people that they’re lying about where they’re from. Mexican people do not own the golden key to being Latino. You guys are also not Caribbean so why even speak on it? Being African American is amazing but if someone is a Afro Latino America who gave you the right to question it? Denying someone’s heritage because they don’t look like you is racist PERIOD. If you do this shit unfollow me now. Black people come from all over & we don’t have to speak Spanish or any other language to prove we’re something. I give positive energy to everyone that gives it to me but I have no problem telling an ignorant bitch to eat their el lotes & pipe the fuck down.
