2015. Try EVEN Harder!
I need help! I can't seem to stop buying games, playing bits of them, then not playing them. It's up and down basically so I'm going to try and blog it out a little more and actually become less of a part time gamer.

2014. Try Harder.
Next week we will be into 2014. I think I will try harder, that's it. That's going to be my main goal, try harder.

The 5 or possibly 6 Days of Christmas...I can't quite remember.
Well I think I only got through 5 games in the end, as we headed into 2013. Another year we go and this one will be the decider.
Will we be looking at another 6+ year generation gap again? Next-gen will start to push forward hard, Sony went first showing the PS4 off for the first time Feb 2013, I say showing but all they did was talk the talk. It was interesting stuff though, lots of new features and of course becoming more social as we play, share and share alike. Next up will be Microsoft of course, rumour has it April 2013, will they show more than Sony? We will just have to wait and see.
I'm still arsing about on PC every now and then, buying games and not playing. Really need to play more of The Cat Lady but I am genuinely scared of that game, it's bloody AND creepy otherwise known as bloody creepy. Got crazily caught up in the Escher-like Antichamber, that game is like a continuous mind fuck for me. For example I had been running around the same zone for about an hour only to find that the entrance I walked into was in-fact an exit when I walked through it backwards! WTF?
Fantastic games design right there, no hand holding just pure exploration and discovery, I love it.

The 12 Games of Christmas
Oh man it's been 3 weeks since my last confession.
Nothing has been annoying me much recently, If anything I have been enjoying going playing through some games, via the 12 days of Christmas gaming. I have tried to make it PC focused as I have SO many games on the Steam backlog.
Each day I will play a new game or finish one of my MANY backlogs.
Day 1
Was finishing up the 'bug ridden on windows 8' but still incredible Hotline Miami. Believe the hype this game is as good as people say, best of all is the music too nearly every bit tune in that game is oozing atmosphere that just propels the game into another level. Get some headphones on, get this game and on go on a rampage. Now to try and go through for A+ on all levels and grab all masks/letters.
Day 2
On and off all day I have been trying to finish Super Hexagon, now this game is pure muscle memory material. Once you start learning patterns you really can start to almost predict movement and when you get into 'the zone' it's like a moment of Zen like state.
Day 3
A new one for me, been sitting on my Steam backlog for a while. Doc Clock: The Toasted Sandwich of Time, now the name alone is worth an install. About an hour later I have built a grandfather clock-bath-wagon with 2 wheels, basically anything you can put your driver seat onto you can click together and pilot. Was a little bit clunky in places but I sat with it for a good hour and was enjoying what I was playing. Got through the first area of 3, next one was the obligatory ice level, what a joy that will be.
Day 4
Another one from the backlog, Aquaria. Got this on an indie bundle I think, my oh my it is a very pretty game, nice little bit of exploration going on within the game. One of those games when you see the map you want to make it entirely solid colour and not miss any spot. Was getting a little into the story that was ahead but the music had looped on me for about a half hour and I couldn't take it any more, will return to this one though.
Day 5
After a few days I have found my Steam library of un-installed games to be a hidden chest of un-played treasures, so I take a look at The Wonderful End of the World, which if I'm not mistaken is basically be a PC version of Katamari Damacy, albeit with slightly more clunky controls (how is that possible?) Managed to get A+ in almost all levels in about 30-45 mins, I was 2 levels away from finishing the game completely. Not a bad little game but damn shame you cannot seem to change the resolution from 1024x768, what year is this 1990?
Day 6
Well that will be today and technically since this is 3am as I write this, we shall see what today brings.

Steam Autumn Sale and The Games You WANT To Play
Well it's that time of year again it seems.
The time where things go on sale and people add to a never ending backlog of games they will never have time to play before they die. I have tried to curb this over the years but the need for a bargain sometimes takes over, lo and behold I find myself with 30 new games I won't take a look at until next year, when they will be on sale at 75% off instead of the 50% off I paid.
I asked myself a while back how can I stop doing this or feeling like this, I don't get enough time to play the games I own so what can I do to stop? A while after I think I found the answer.
"Buy games you WANT to play, you idiot!"
Thomas Was Alone was a game that started this for me, it had been mentioned quite a bit on forums I frequent, Twitter feeds of people I follow and it was getting good comments all round from the indie scene, so I forked out the money for DRM free version from the developers site.
Played the game instantly, got into it and eventually finished the game knowing I had given an Indie money directly with no cut taken from the big guy.
A lot of the time I see people say I will wait for the Steam Sale, because we all know they are inevitable of course. What does bother me and I'm sure other people too is the avoidance of games due to pricing, pricing that isn't really that much of an issue. I'm not talking your blockbuster multi billion dollar publisher titles I'm talking about your indie games or small publisher games.
Thomas Was Alone cost me £5.99 and the experience I took from it was memorable, story and characters are nicely narrated by Danny Wallace, it's not too taxing or frustrating on puzzle/platforming and generally I really enjoyed it.
I suppose what I'm trying to get to (badly) is a couple of weeks ago Thomas Was Alone finally got onto Steam, which I was pleased about as the game deserves to be on there. The extra coverage and attention Steam brings will hopefully give the game more sales which can only be a good thing. I got an email from the developer Mike Bithell thanking me for the support and asking, instead of paying £6 on steam for Thomas why not give another indie dev a chance, I kindly got a Steam redeem key for the support and this gave me the chance to re-visit Thomas and all his friends.
I will always give the indie-little guy a chance and I ask for nothing in return bar the product they give me. If they can invest the time to develop something special then I can invest the money to pay for something special, more people should do the same.
Support the future because at the moment it's not looking as bright as I hoped it would.
