bombaystreetrat liked this post for a short starter.
Theodora Sinclair hated most of the Citadel, it all felt too clean cut and orderly to someone use to the Chaos of Omega, but she could stand the lower wards. Their still was a hint of the air that C-sec projected all across the Presidium, but you could see the holes in it’s mask. Everything felt more, well, real to the mercenary when you could see the imperfections of intelligent life. The failures and the short  comings brushing up next to the edited and marketed perfection. That sort of life breathed, it moved, it was perfect for the woman.
And it was in that living place, the lower wards, that Theodora found herself after the completion of a job. It  hadn’t been anything special, just escorting some drug dealers through alliance space, they hadn’t even run into any trouble! She was almost upset. She laughed a little, she was upset over a lack of action!
She was wasting her time anyway, the tip she got wasn’t exactly from the best source either. But hell, with the end of her last job she needed work, and she wasn’t going to get any sitting around.
She saw a woman standing in front of the shop her contact had mentioned. If she was the client or not, Theodora couldn’t say, but she was there, and that was something.  Keeping her walking pace, Teddy approached the woman with a smile and an open hand. “Theodora Sinclair, lovely to meet you.”

This was getting...odd... fast, Theodora leaned back in her chair, looked the Quarian up and down, then sighed. “You and me both, you and me both.” It had been a month and a half since she was able to pick up a contract. Most of the work out their was something more suited to teams of mercenaries, and she just seemed not to work well with others of her profession. She ran a gloved hand through her hair before looking back up at her visitor.
“I don’t have any work, don’t know where any is right now either. Sorry.” Teddy gave a sad smile before standing and making her way to the back of the small office. Wracking her head for any ideas for the two of them.
Work ll Open
Zanna felt utterly helpless. Even if she could find a good transport, how was she going to pay for it? Her omni-tool was broken, possibly beyond repair given when she was. Without it, she had no money. And even if an Alliance ship did come through, there was still the current quarian stereotype she had to fight against. Who would take her on?
“No, you’re right of course,” she sighed. “Okay, look. I’m a marine. I can deal with handsy scum as is appropriate and/or necessary. But my omni-tool’s broken, so I don’t have access to my money…” Her voice trailed off as she realized it was bigger than that. Her account wouldn’t be active 100 years in the past.
“No, scratch that,” she sighed. “I have no money.” Damn it! Why did time travel sci-fi never deal with the realities of wandering about in the past? If that didn’t just ruin everything. Zanna had less than zero desire to be here when the Adjutants started showing up, but she had no money and no way to get it.
“So, uh… I guess I need a job first. Any leads on that?”

chase-the-red-sky
Caitlin peered through her scope, lying flat on the dusty outcropping without a single thought in regards to the mile-long drop that lay less than two feet from her position. She’d been waiting for some time now; a keen eye watching for any movement in the vast ravine below, waiting for the slightest hint of illicit activity. There was intel pointing to the presence of a pirate holdout in the region, however the lack of EM readings indicated that the base itself was likely shielded.
 Still nothing.
She sighed, glancing over to the other members of her team; another infiltrator, and an adept. The latter she’d requested on the off chance that they’d wander into a confrontation at a much closer range.
Teddy couldn’t say this was the most boring mission she’d ever been on, guarding the elcor diplomats with commander kill joy the third back on earth had that spot, it was a close second. The young Frenchwoman had lost track of the amount of time the small party had spent sitting on the ridge. She was a Fury god damn it, she was meant for action! Theodora let a sigh escape her lips, before she looked over at their boss.
She still hadn’t moved, man she must have some patience. Sitting in one place for that long, doing the same thing, watching, hell the thought of it made the rouge squirm.   She looked over at the other infiltrator, doing pretty much the same thing their boss was doing, and frowned. It was no fun, absolutely no fun. Well, she had to admit, this was better than prison.
Why was she on this mission anyway, she wasn’t meant for all this observation stuff. She was meant to get close and tear people and things apart. She enjoyed it to some extent, life was destruction, that she had learned early on.
“Tell me when you need me.” she whispered to the other two, before leaning back and closing her eyes, listening to the wind around them.

The C-sec officer and the Mercenary looked like an odd pair to the untrained eye, but anyone with an once of sense could tell the two were actual friends, not two cops attempting a sting or anything similar to that.  Loud body shaking laughter and horrible eye puns echoed across the hospital, throwing out its heavy air of work and replacing it with a more excitable aura.
Teddy wasn’t in the hospital much longer, a week maybe, but the time flew by. The Volus family visited one or twice in that time period, that she knew, and begged her to come back at protect them for a while. She agreed of course, money was money, and that was something she understood. She’s have to thank Aleysia for getting her both her eyes back and her jobs back.
And she did, about three days after her discharge, the tiny human merc found her way into the C-sec offices. This time, for once in her life, not in chains.  She waited ever so patiently, aka not patiently at all, for her friend in an area she imagined had been created so that everyone who needed to report a crime could wait and think about if they really wanted to.

“You overlooked one,” Aleysia said with a grin. “See what eye did there? Oh, make that two. Or is that three? Depending on how you’d count them.”
She nodded. “Yes, your clients had a real jolt waiting for them at home, or so I hear.”
At the offer of a drink, Aleysia smiled. “I’ll take you up on that. Been a while since I’ve had a good enough friend to drink with.”

Theodora gave a quick nod before plastering her eyes shut. She didn’t exactly like the idea of not seeing things, but if she really needed to, her biotics could tear apart any problem that may arise.  She balled her fists trying to contain her nerves.
If there was one thing she learned in the Alliance, it was that nerves, unless they were of steel, never helped. Though her eyes were shut, she instinctively attempted to look behind her every few seconds, a tic almost, one that she hoped wouldn’t stay for too long.
Five armored figures patrolled the area just outside of the alley, they were not wearing the stereotypical white and gold of Cerebreus, but they were too well disciplined to be any of the regular armored mercs that walked the streets of  Omega. One pulled seemed to call over a headset to larger group, or perhaps just to a leader, far away, before turning and scanning the area around her.
Tumblr media
Liselle was on edge, and it showed. Even the sounds of the vents shifting as air flowed through them made her twitch, but she did her best to hide her anxiety from Teddy. She gestured for her to follow down a narrow alley a few buildings over, and then stopped to turn to look at her.
“Cover your eyes. I can’t let y’see what ‘m gonna do,” she said. “It won’t take us right to Afterlife, but it’ll get use close enough that we should be safe.” Or so she hoped. The tunnels that stretched across Omega were mazes, and Liselle was still learning how to navigate them safely. She was just hoping that they wouldn’t end up lost, or at the wrong exit. But it was better than wandering exposed through the streets.

Teddy had to stop herself from laughing, reputable transportation on Omega, this girl had to be kidding. “Girly, you won’t find a transport service that will get you off of here scott free in a million years. You do know where you are right?” Omega was the capital of pirates and thieves, crooks and con-men, no one here was looking out for anyone but themselves.
“You  might be able to flag down an alliance ship in a few weeks, heard one of those was going on a slaver hunting run, but other than that. You’re out of luck for good transport.”

“2186? I hit something…” Zanna muttered. She shook her head. “I thought I needed my omni-tool repaired. Shouldn’t glitch out like it did, but now I know why…”
She stopped abruptly, glancing down at the little name plate on the desk. “Thank you, Ms. Sinclair. What I really need is a way off the station. Don’t suppose you know of any reputable transportation from here?” As an afterthought, she added, “Mmm, preferably sooner rather than later.”

“I don’t know if I can take you seriously after that pun” Teddy said rather seriously, before braking out into body shaking laughter. “Bright-eyed! Electric eyes! Brilliant pun, I’m going to have to remember it.” Puns were one of the mercenaries favorite kinds of humor, they either pissed people off or made people giggle, and she could dig that.
“Yes, you could say I see life in a whole new light!” she smiled at her contact turned friend in the small hospital room. “My clients must have gotten some sort of life changing shock to think of paying for these.”  Teddy nudged the officer with her arm, before falling back into the bed laughing.
“First day I get out of here, I’m buying you some drinks.”

Paperwork was, of course, never done. But the moment the nurse came to inform her that Teddy was ready for visitors, Aleysia switched off her datapad and rose to her feet. “Thank you,” she said with a smile to the nurse.
In less than a minute, she’d found her way to Teddy’s bedside. “Well, well,” she said with a mischievous grin. “Aren’t you looking… bright-eyed.”
