On August 7, A24 announced that it had picked up Vivienne “VivziePop” Medrano’s adult animated series Hazbin Hotel for a full TV series. No information about production schedule or network has been announced yet, and a release date is yet to be revealed.
Hazbin Hotel is a musical black comedy series created, directed, and written by Medrano. It follows Charlie (Jill Harris), the princess of Hell as she attempts to rehabilitate sinners in the “Happy Hotel.” An animated pilot was independently produced and released on YouTube in October 2019. The pilot has been viewed over 40 million times as of July 2020.
Harris stars alongside Monica Franco as Vaggie, Charlie’s girlfriend and the hotel’s manager, Micheal Kovach as Angle Dust, a gay adult-film star and test case for the hotel, and Edward Bosco as Alastor, an eccentric overlord of hell and patron of the hotel. Other main cast includes Michelle Marie, Mick Lauer, Elsie Lovelock, and Gabriel C. Brown.
A24 is an independent entertainment company based in New York City. It is known for projects including Euphoria (HBO), Moonlight, and Lady Bird. Fans laud the studio for its emphasis on artistically based project and the creative freedom they give filmmakers.
