Coming out hibernation to post this- Nick Fury was likely intended to be queer in Ales Kot’s run on Secret Avengers. The queercoding was intentionally done by a queer person who was forced to keep it explicitly off the page not just queerbaiting.

Well, I will be quite happy to say that I think there is absolutely an anti-queer agenda in most mainstream comics, including Marvel, but I’m also so thrilled to be finally vindicated!! Phil Coulson is indeed a beautiful bisexual nerd in love with his best friend, Nick Fury, and no one can take that from us. It really WAS queercoding and they really DID confess their love to each other in space Marvel were just too cowardly to let them make it explicit. Honestly, given this it means that Nick is queer too because the queercoding extends to him and to their relationship which is mutual. Nick Fury and Phil Coulson are queer and in love and no one can take it from me!

Bookshop AU

After leaving the military Nick opens a small eclectic bookshop in NY. Clint has gone back to school after his time in the service and comes to Nick’s shop to study away from the young college kid crowds. Often he’s the last to leave in the evenings and soon the subject of their conversations turn from Clint’s studies and Nick’s bookshop cat to their shared military experience and personal life. As they become friends Clint starts staying after to help close up and grabbing an occasional drink turns into early dinners until Nick finally asks Clint on a real date.

Phil is an up and coming comics writer and Nick is a history professor at the local college. He and Phil attend conventions together-early mornings camping out for good panels with multiple cups of coffee turn into VIP passes through the back entrance but they make sure to still make time for their favorite con activities. Nick spends weeks on his cosplay and they split up their time between comics and Star Wars.

I would love very little more than that. Nick encountering the Hand during his travels and recognizing the shit she’s been through. He doesn’t try to manipulate her into an alliance–probably wouldn’t work anyway–but he offers her some information on a rival that had ties to Hydra and they figure out a mutually beneficial system.

The system involves tips on good greasy spoon type restaurants the world over. Elektra knows milkshakes. Nick knows onion rings.
