Over the past fifty years Floridians have periodically heard unexplained booming sounds. These acoustical mysteries have occurred in both the atmosphere and underground. In the 1950s, booming sounds were frequently heard in the Ocala National Forest but most of those were attributed to the military’s Ocala Bombing Range. However, in more recent times the same kind of sounds have been heard over a wider area without any apparent connection to military activities. People described the sounds “like a super-sonic aircraft makes when it breaks the sound barrier.” Windows would rattle and the ground would shake which caused some people to say it was coming from underground.

At 46 Avenida Menedez, facing St. Augustine’s waterfront, there is a restaurant that has changed names several times, from Chart House, to Catalina’s Garden to Puerta Verde Restaurant, and at this writing it simply goes by “Harry’s Bar and Grill,” but one thing that hasn’t changed is the haunting of this building.

There are two ancient cemeteries in St. Augustine within a stones throw of one another, the Tolomato Catholic Cemetery closed in 1884, on Cordova Street, and the Huguenot Cemetery just across from the old City Gates. The Huguenot Cemetery was also called the public burying grounds. It was started in 1821, just in time for the Yellow Fever epidemic that took its dreadful toll from St. Augustine’s citizenry.

Key West, Florida. A child of ten awakens in the middle of the night and finds one of his brightest daytime companions, a stuffed doll, staring at him from the foot of his bed. There is something unnatural about the glassy eyes, the expressionless face.

Over time there has been an abnormally high number of UFO sightings in Florida. The State is definitely a hotbed for UFO activity; this could be due to it being the home of NASA Space Shuttle launches at Cape Canaveral.

What pops into your head of when someone says the words “Disney World”? Do you think of Mickey Mouse, Epcot Center, or maybe Cinderella’s Castle? One thing you in all likelihood you do not tend to think of are ghosts… other than perhaps the Haunted Mansion, that is. You might believe it is impossible that Disney World, of all places, can be haunted. Nevertheless accounts of Disney World hauntings do exist
