Everyone moved on but i'm still periodically thinking about chimera farcille.... these two will always be famous to me

When I am appointed to represent a child, my first action is to separate them from their parents and tell them the following things:

1. I am their attorney. I do not work for their parent or the judge or the cops. I don’t care what any of those people want.

2. My job is to listen to them and try and make what they want happen in court. (At this point I make a joke about how most people want me to get them out of trouble but if someone wanted to be in trouble I would do my best.)

3. What they tell me is confidential. It goes nowhere unless they agree to it. (If old enough, I talk to them about mandatory reporters, and how I’m a mandatory non reporter.)

4. I will give them lots of advice because I’ve been doing court for a while and I know a lot about it, and they don’t. It’s all really complicated, and if they don’t understand what’s happening it’s my job to help them figure it out.

5. They will make the decisions. (At this point I usually have to reassure them that I’ll help, I’ll speak for them in front of the judge, and I’ve got their back. It’s scary to have an adult say you’re in charge, most of the time.)

6. I tell them I know it’s absolutely wild to have some stranger come in here and say “hey, you can trust me!” and that I get if they don’t believe everything right away, because I plan to show them through my actions and my words that I’ll fight for them.

7. But nonetheless, I will treat them like a person who can make decisions, because they are living their life and I am not.

I do not:

Pretend to be cool.

Try to be their BFF.

Overwhelm them with detail.

Let their parents in the room until the kid asks for them. (I provide openings for this, and ask if the kid wants their parent to help them remember and understand.)

I want to emphasize I went into this job knowing nothing about how to interact with vulnerable populations, especially children. The training was minimal, and my role means that I can literally walk into a facility and get an unmonitored visit with a minor client one on one.

In my years of practice I have never felt threatened by a child, even one that was “violent” and “unstable.” It turns out just saying “hi, I think you’re a person with thoughts” is wildly successful? Now people treat me like I have special Child Whisperer powers. My powers are that I ask the child what’s up and I’m not scared to say things that are objectively awkward. I know nothing about anything.

More StH AU because I'm unhinged

It's my birthday and I'm feeling unhinged so have some StarGoth and some light SilverFreckle - "C'mon, Deacon. Mom said we can visit them." "Visit who, again?" Deacon asked as Chase dragged him down the hallway. He remembered a few days ago when his cousin was talking a mile a minute about 'people in test tubes or some shit' that he just 'had to see'.

"Well, his label is No. 2 but I haven't been calling him that," Chase said as they entered the room. Deacon looked around in awe. Chase was right. For once.

Metallic-looking humanoids were suspended in liquid, only two of them awake and looking at them. Deacon watched as Chase went over to the one that was black and grey. The one with the label 'No. 2'.

'Hi, Buddy' Chase signed. The humanoid creature lit up when Chase signed out a name other than his label. They started signing to each other, going too fast for Deacon to process. So, he focused on the other one who was awake. The label below her said 'Little Silver'. She looked beautiful, and....very accurate to her name. Silver skin, silver hair, silver clothes. Even silver scleras. With a pink gemstone as her pupils. She was wearing what looked like a full ballgown. Even little heels. Her hair was styled in a slight wave, but also looked to be...not moving.

Chase tapped his shoulder, and he jumped slightly before blushing in embarrassment.

"Buddy says to just call her 'Silver'. He's taught her some of the sign I taught him, so, she'll go slower for you," Chase said. Deacon looked over at No. 2 or 'Buddy' as Chase was calling him. 'Buddy' nodded at him, then gestured to 'Silver'. Silver, now seeing that he was more aware, waved at him politely.

'Hello?' Deacon signed. Silver's face lit up, and she began signing to him.

'Name?'

'Deacon.'

'Nice name. Call me Silver.'

'Pretty name.'

Silver looked to giggle when Deacon signed that, and now Deacon blushed slightly because of how pretty she was. Silver was signing again.

'Chase nice. Makes Nox happy.'

'Nox?'

'He chose name. Likes Buddy when Chase says it.'

Deacon looked over at his cousin and 'Buddy'/'Nox'/No. 2. Chase was showing him some drawings, then the two were signing to each other. When Chase turned the page, Deacon saw in in the humaniod's also gemstone eyes. The way he looked at Chase.

'Chase name not real name. Buddy looks happy.'

'Chase not real name?' Silver asked. After a few seconds, though, she shrugged. 'Looks happier with that name.'

Deacon agreed. But, he could definitely tell. It wasn't just a friendship between those two. It was something so much more.

He just wondered if Chase knew what he was getting into.

i wish i could grab some of you and shake you and say please remember the care you've had for c!wilbur and know that your care wasn't fake or false or foolish you weren't tricked or had. that care exists because c!wilbur is a well presented and crafted character who happens to have a horrible creator. who is, regardless of his actions, good at creating. he was made for your care alongside your criticism. and analysis of c!wilbur that is just criticism with no care to view him as anything but his abusive creator frankly means nothing to me. and it should mean nothing to you. what a sad way to look upon that character.

don't you remember getting emotional to a sadness runs through him? don't you remember november 16th? don't you remember how we used to fucking run? we used to run separate from his creator. analysis through a sympathetic lens is nonexistent these days. you didn't gain a new lens of analysis through his creator being revealed to be an abusive person. it's just like classic vilbur but all the time now. vilbur but worse. nobody is saying you can't be uncomfortable with his creator. i'm not saying that. but to see what was once a character that was considered remarkably good representation for mental illness fall so far due to his creator is so sad. nothing about his character seems to really matter anymore to anyone outside a select few. and i don't really see that changing but i hate seeing posts blow up that are like, "isn't it funny that c!wilbur ended up being just as bad as cc!wilbur?" bro, in what world is that funny?

stop calling c!wilbur evil. stop saying shit like that. he touched upon an ugly side of humanity. much like the rest of the characters from the dsmp. he is not a uniquely evil character.

i know it's easier to just not care anymore. i know it's easier to simply write his whole entire character off as abusive like his creator. but damn. it make me sad. and not only is it sad but it's honestly pretty damn wrong and disrespectful to keep equating this minecraft roleplay character to a real life abuser. stupid as fuck media analysis wise, and genuinely morally wrong.
