Tia once again knocked it out of the park with her amazing fic that explores a pre-series Dean living under a curse! I loved being able to explore some classic horror tropes and the vibes from the first season. Also, I got to draw pretty (dead) flowers, and play with more Eldritch elements with Cas which is always a treat!

A note to all creatives:

Right now, you have to be a team player. You cannot complain about AI being used to fuck over your industry and then turn around and use it on somebody else’s industry.

No AI book covers. No making funny little videos using deepfakes to make an actor say stuff they never did. No AI translation of your book. No AI audiobooks. No AI generated moodboards or fancasts or any of that shit. No feeding someone else’s unfinished work into Chat GPT “because you just want to know how it ends*” (what the fuck is wrong with you?). No playing around with AI generated 3D assets you can’t ascertain the origin of. None of it. And stop using AI filters on your selfies or ESPECIALLY using AI on somebody else’s photo or artwork.

We are at a crossroad and at a time of historically shitty conditions for working artists across ALL creative fields, and we gotta stick together. And you know what? Not only is standing up for other artists against exploitation and theft the morally correct thing to do, it’s also the professionally smartest thing to do, too. Because the corporations will fuck you over too, and then they do it’s your peers that will hold you up. And we have a long memory.

Don’t make the mistake of thinking “your peers” are only the people in your own industry. Writers can’t succeed without artists, editors, translators, etc making their books a reality. Illustrators depend on writers and editors for work. Video creators co-exist with voice actors and animators and people who do 3D rendering etc. If you piss off everyone else but the ones who do the exact same job you do, congratulations! You’ve just sunk your career.

Always remember: the artists who succeed in this career path, the ones who get hired or are sought after for commissions or collaboration, they aren’t the super talented “fuck you I got mine” types. They’re the one who show up to do the work and are easy to get along with.

And they especially are not scabs.

On A Hawaiian Dream | Art Masterpost

I do love me some casefic, and Littlesupernova layering it with elements of Hawaiian folklore that I love made this an instant top choice for me! 

I knew that I HAD to draw the goddess Pele, but wanted to incorporate Cas and Dean as well, so I went for a diptych/two panel approach.

I tried to keep Pele’s design somewhat traditional, but add my own takes and incorporate her element of fire and I really like the result! I also enjoyed capturing Cas’ protectiveness of Dean, as well as Dean’s own self assured attitude that Littlesupernova weaves throughout this fic.

Ultimately, I love how this turned out, and I feel like it’s one of my strongest works yet! Creating the lush feel of a tropical environment proved an interesting challenge for me as someone who lives in a dryer mountain climate. Also, drawing three characters and keeping them and the pieces balanced is no joke. I am so very grateful that I had the opportunity to work with this wonderful author, and I love what we’ve made together!

This fic is so sweet and very heartfelt, and it was tough trying to pick which scenes to illustrate because there were so many possibilities! I ultimately decided after reading (and rereading) the story that I wanted to portray some key steps along the path of Cas and Dean’s relationship.

I wanted to capture the sweet shyness of their meeting at the beginning of the story, and the moment I read the tag Dragon!Cas, I KNEW I had to draw him. My author’s mention that Cas had iridescent scales created an interesting challenge for me, and the fantasy setting she created allowed me to have fun and run with my ideas.

I’m so very pleased with how these pieces turned out, and I absolutely loved this fic to bits! There are a lot of beautiful scenes I didn’t draw, but I hope I was able to depict even a fraction of my adoration in these works. Hisbrokenrainbowwings has been a delight to collaborate with, and I appreciate her wonderful work!

Summary: 

Beneath the swamplands of Florida are massive cave systems that stretch for hundreds of miles. A spelunker’s dream and a hunter’s nightmare. Many of the caves are completely submerged underwater, and there’s no telling what may be lurking in their depths. 

After a series of mysterious disappearances, the Winchesters and Castiel arrive to investigate. Dean must put his life and his trust in Cas’s hands as they go deeper underground and under the water. 

But as they descend into the caves, they enter a battle for survival with a creature that is very old, very large, and very angry.

Summary:

Excerpt:

Cas is just tugging him surfaceward again when something wraps long fingers around Dean’s ankle and yanks. Dean’s mouth flies open in shock as his hand is wrenched out of Cas’s, and he can feel a flood of air bubble up past his face as the creature drags him down, down, down.  

Water fills his mouth and nose, rushing down his throat and into his lungs as he claws uselessly upwards, no match for the creature’s swift movement deeper into the depths. He tries to cough out water but there’s nothing to replace it, and he inhales even more when the creature’s nails pierce the skin of his leg. Dean can taste the sharp iron tang of his own blood in the water as the creature drags him down through it. 

His lungs are on fire. He’s choking. He’s suffocating. He has no vision to blur but pain explodes behind his eyes as his synapses desperately fire, trying to make use of the last available molecules of oxygen in his bloodstream. He tries not to throw up; he doesn’t want to die with the sour taste of vomit in his mouth. 

He’s getting disoriented from the lack of oxygen, can hardly tell which way is up anymore, but he tries to struggle away from the creature, taking more and more water into his lungs as he gasps and coughs. The thing’s claws are deep in his leg, a vise grip he’s quickly growing too weak to hope to escape. 

He stops struggling and gives in to it, unable to do anything else. He closes his eyes.
