Haste Laddeiten!
Happy Birthday! Today (13/09/2024) is my conlang Gamlieg's 1st birthday :) As of today I've been working on it for a year! It's not perfect but I'm very happy with how far it's come and to have worked on one project for so long <3

making 7 counting systems for my conlang each more awful than the last none of them use numerals just phonemes one of them requires a chessboard (unless you can visualize long chains of chess moves in your head) like 3/7 have multiple ways to express a single number including one having infinite amount of ways to write any single number one of them is non positional and the lenght of the number as written is almost completely uncorrelated with its size
cant wait to share these with the world

I really enjoyed these translations as it was interesting to learn how many modern words for clothes across celtic languages are clearly taken from the english word but with a more language appropriate phonetics! I knew this about welsh but didnt realise it applied to irish and scots gaelic so consitently too ^^ I tried to bring this style into gamlieg at least somewhat, although there is some slang around the word for jeans that allows the irregular use of the letter J Dallachau [ˈdælæxaɪ] Clothing (plural) singular form "Dallach" [dælæx]
Creise-T [kraɪsʌ tuː] T-shirt
Creise Bolo [kraɪsʌ bəʊləʊ] Polo shirt Baitwm Creise Sios [baɪtuːm kraɪsʌ siːˈɒs] Button-up Shirt (literally button shirt sealed-up)
Blosa [bləʊsæ] Blouse Sgierta [skiːɜːtæ] Skirt Gwda [ɡuːdæ] Dress Jains [ʤeɪnz] Jeans (This word is heavily lent from english as it is a very modern item of clothing, an alternative spelling used in more formal or traditional settings is "Siaens" but amoung younger people it is more common to use the spelling "Jains")
Brwtos [brutˈɔs] Trousers Geanber [ɡiænbɛr] Knitted Jumper/Sweater Hwdai [hudaɪ] Hoodie Ciswt [kɪsut] Suit (Including the blazer, shirt and tie) Bleser [ˈblɛsər] Blazer (or any formal jacket) Saced [sækɛd] Jacket (applies to non-formal jackets without a hood, with a hood is either a hoodie or a coat) Cota [kɒtæ] Coat
Cota Glaitw [kɒtæ ɡlaɪtuː] Raincoat or waterproof jacket
Brwtos Bioch [brutˈɔs biːˈɔx] Shorts (Literally "Trousers with small scale")

I’ve been making languages of varying quality and complexity since I was a little kid but during lockdown i learnt about conlangs and when I had no internet access I used the notes feature on my e-reader to create dictionaries and grammar explainations and stuff, and looking back it wasn’t the best BUT i spent hundreds of hours on it so it’s still something I’m very proud of! So here’s a little piece of writing (this paragraph) translated into my very first “Proper” conlang Ilaveliaehn!

Sorry for the lack of Gamlieg content! I’ve been away in germany meeting my boyfriend for the first time :) definitely more gamlieg stuff when i’m home to help me cope with all the sad loneliness haha

EXCITING NEWS (for me, not for my general productivity)
I've translated the whole first page of Jekyll and Hyde into Gamlieg :D This was a good exercise for me as it will help me coining new words and standardizing certain aspects of grammar Very thank you to my girlfriend who I spent a significant amount of time forcing to ask me questions so I could tell him things about my conlang :D

English
The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll And Mr.. Hyde By Robert Louis Stevenson Translated into Gamlieg by Evan (@gamlieg on Tumblr) Mr. Utterson the lawyer was a man of a rugged countenance, that was never lighted by a smile; cold, scanty and embarrassed in discourse; backward in sentiment; lean, long, dusty, dreary, and yet somehow lovable. At friendly meetings, and when the wine was to his taste, something eminently human beaconed from his eye; something indeed which never found its way into his talk, but which spoke not only in these silent symbols of the after-dinner face, but more often and loudly in the acts of his life. He was austere with himself; drank gin when he was alone, to mortify a taste for vintages; and though he enjoyed the theatre, had not crossed the doors of one for twenty years. But he had an approved tolerance for others; sometimes wondering, almost with envy, at the high pressure of spirits involved in their misdeeds; and in any extremity inclined to help rather than to reprove. “I incline to Cain’s heresy,” he used to say quaintly: “I let my brother go to the devil in his own way.” In this character, it was frequently his fortune to be the last reputable acquaintance and the last good influence in the lives of down-going men. And to such as these, so long as they came about his chambers, he never marked a shade of change in his demeanour.
