Guys, please watch Twelve Forever.

Hey guys so, as you all may know I’m a huge animation fan. I love cartoons and get excited when I see a new animated series show up in the scene. 

Which is why I think if you are a fan of a feel good/fun time cartoon series, I def think you should all watch Twelve Forever that Just hit Netflix.

Like seriously, if you were ever a fan of cartoon series like chalkzone or Fosters home for imaginary friends, then I highly recommend this series. I just finished it and it was such a delight and every episode put a huge smile on my face.

All of the characters have such a unique and whimsical style to it that only reminds me of a classic Cartoon Network series.  The world of Endless has such a unique setting to it that it basically encapsulates how even the weirdest of shit can happen at any time, and I loved it.

Also I loooooooooooooooove this shows representation of the LGBT community. Like there are two characters who are , without a doubt, gay and in a relationship. And I love how the show portrays the relationship in a loving and healthy manner.

Also Reggie the main character, actually crushes on a girl and it is literally the cutest thing ever.

This show also tackles serious subjects like, a child struggling to make sense of a mom or dad leaving because of a divorce, fears of abandonment, and above all the fear of growing up.

And I think the show does a great job in portraying all of those issues in a very realistic way that would make sense to not only a kid, but to adults as well.

The reason I’m even making this post is because, Unfortunately, Netflix’s algorithm on what shows will show up recommended on their website is so flawed that you wouldn’t even be able to find this show unless manually tried to find this show on your own. So unless you’ve been following this shows production since the pilot came out, you wouldn’t even know this show just came out. Which sucks because I really want this show to get a second season and that can only happen if enough people watch it.

So guys please, give this show a try and support it so that Netflix knows we want more of twelve forever . If you want to just sit back and enjoy a great cartoon, this show is right up your alley.

Wizards Unite, Rocketman, and “You Need to Calm Down”

Hot Takes & Not Takes for June:

Moominvalley

I’ve gone head over heels for this series and this franchise in general (read: I’ve started buying the merch). Between watching the entire series twice (and now a third time as I’m forcing my mom to watch it with me) and listening to the soundtrack nearly everyday it’s easy to say this is the most charming and wholesome thing I will interact with all year. Reasons you should watch: it’s queer (and so is the author); it will make you feel better; the animation is so well done. Bonus reason: Taron Egerton.

Where to watch: If you’re in the US you’re going to have to look around since it hasn’t aired here (and it doesn’t appear there are plans at the moment to import it) but I recommend checking through Reddit and Tumblr…

Good Omens

Also queer, also lovely. I’m a fan of the book and I’ve always read Aziraphale and Crowley (love the ship name, by the way) as being, maybe not “in love”, completely and utterly dedicated to each other and each other’s well being. So, yeah. The show amps it up to 90%, particularly with a 30 minute cold open before episode three that has made my life so much better. The show also manages to balance all the stories whereas that was the biggest issue I had with the book—I would want to read about one character but be stuck in fifty pages of another. Reasons you should watch: David Tennant & Michael Sheen; brilliant storytelling (I mean, duh, it’s Neil Gaiman adapting his and Terry Pratchett’s novel); Anathema’s wardrobe. Bonus reason: you’ll piss of the Christians.

Doom Days—Bastille

I’m 100% biased when it comes to this band—Bastille has been my favorite band EVER since high school. They’re one of the few groups I’ve ever seen in concert and I’d go every opportunity I could if I had the funds. This album, while not my favorite of their three releases (Wild World was absolutely defining for me), it’s definitely in my top twenty albums of all time. Best tracks: Doom Days, Divide, 4AM. Also of note: the album is organized by time.

Where to listen: wherever you stream music; the vinyl sounds beautiful and there’s also a limited edition cassette tape (objectively, cassette is the best way to listen to music)

You Need to Calm Down—Taylor Swift

My first thought was “wait, did she just say that?” not because it was a mic-drop moment but because I thought I misheard what would otherwise be a tacky line that feels like it came out of nowhere. But, nope, “shade never made anyone less gay” and “when you could be GLAAD” are real lines. I’m not saying I don’t like the song—it’s a total bop—but it feels kind of like a misplaced Connor 4 Real song. There’s certainly something in her message of Love Yourself and the fact that she is clearly trying to reach out to her queer fans is nice.

Rocketman The best movie I’ve seen all year, hands down. I didn’t want it to end—the music, the costumes, Taron’s performance, it was all perfect. I cried, I laughed. It hits every box for me. It’s also a good example of what defines nonfiction and whether being completely accurate will be more truthful or less. It’s also made me really think about who tells stories and who has the right to tell stories for other people… big thoughts, really. This movie is perfect. Why you should watch: Elton John; all the glasses; Taron Egerton. Bonus reason: Taron Egerton performs all the music and he’s so good; I keep listening to the soundtrack.

Wizard’s Unite

This game is a slog if I’m being honest. They made it overly complicated and, because Harry Potter doesn’t exactly have the same design as Pokemon they had to build from the ground up to have a reason why you would need to go around catching things for this game. The story holds up so far, I guess? I think it’s a bit of a stretch. I also really dislike the design for how you catch the Confoundables—with Pokemon Go you don’t have to click the Pokemon to see if you already have it you can just tell on the map whereas here you have to go into the Confoundable, see you have it, and then click out. It’s also, at least for me living in the suburbs, a Pay to Play game because I don’t live close enough to have easy access to a way to replenish my spell energy. I’ve sunk $6 into this game and I won’t be spending anymore because I’ve determined it’s a waste.

A few other thoughts and things I’ve enjoyed this month:

- The Moominvalley Soundtrack is as charming as the show

- Old Town Road only just entered my life and I am all the better for it

- I’ve also recently discovered web comics via Castle Swimmer which is a must read

- Regarding reading I’ve been doing, I finished up Beasts of Extraordinary Value and The Ocean at the End of the Lane; I would recommend both

- Only a few hours ago I went and saw Yesterday and it was so much funnier than I thought! It was a good movie (with the best ending it could have) though the previews did give quite a bit away, in my opinion

- When I wasn’t hitting my head over Wizard’s Unite I was playing through Pokemon: Let’s Go Eevee and it’s so cute! It’s easier than other Pokemon games but no less fulfilling

A Lightsaber on a Plane?

I recently went to Galaxy’s Edge in Disney World (video should be up on Monday or Tuesday) and let me tell you it was one of the greatest experiences of my life.

My one goal when arriving was to shoot over to Savi’s workshop so that I could custom make my own lightsaber (which, yes, clocks in at $215 with tax and, which, yes, is definitely worth it). 

The biggest concern I had was how I was going to get this thing home. It’s a huge piece of metal and plastic and has batteries and lights up and makes noise and it’s not something you’d see every day. And I live in the Chicago area, so California is pretty far. Would the airplanes let it on?

Short answer: yes. And I had no problems at all getting it on the plane and getting it home.

Long answer:

1) Treat it as your carry on item. It can fit in the overhead storage bins pretty nicely, but this does mean that you will have to check your regular carry on. It does not count as your personal item because it can’t fit under the seat.

2) Security didn’t have any trouble with it; they didn’t even open the bag to check what was inside. The only issue was that I didn’t grab it quick enough and another bag banged into it. Nothing was damaged but it’s definitely something to look out for.

If there is an issue with security:

A Disney employee told me that Disney was in talks with the airlines and they made sure these fancy toys could be flown home with people. Basically, the airlines biggest concern was whether it could come apart. And it does. It takes a few moments but the whole thing can be unassembled. Let the security know this if it comes up.

It also takes regular types of batteries (so not the exploding ones). I doubt this will come up, but the tag attached to the carrying bag you get with your lightsaber has all this information.

3) The flight attendants might kick out some weirdly shaped carry ons (the guy a few spots ahead of me couldn't bring his sign aboard because it was oversized, even though he’d cleared it with a different personnel from the same airline) but the lightsaber is not one of them. They didn’t even bat an eye as I carried it aboard.

I will say, though, carrying it off I got some weird looks from a flight attendant who must not have noticed it the first time around.

So, yeah, don’t worry, your lightsaber will travel safely with you.

Pro tip:

If you have multiple lightsabers but only want them to count as 1 carry on item it’s quite simple: tie them together. You can get some chords or thick rubber bands OR you can take the strap that comes with the lightsaber bag and clip the straps so that they connect with each other. Can confirm this works because my dad and I both made one and we were both able to bring them on as a single carry on item.
