I've seen discussions sometimes about how fanfiction-based fandom culture is heavily influenced and dominated by people who are not cis men.

One thing I haven't seen discussed as much though is how much of fandom in general is shaped by neurodivergent people.

I mean, you have autistic and ADHD people with special interests or hyperfixations collecting information and writing detailed meta, connecting very strongly with characters and fandoms. I would not be surprised if the percentage of autistics in fandom communities was significantly higher than in the general public.

And that's not even getting into other types of neurodivergencies and how they influence fandom culture.

I sometimes see people try to divorce fandom culture from the idea of being a "geek", and I understand that this is sometimes because of the association with the sexist geek stereotype, but I also know that there is a connection between the two concepts, and it's probably us neurodivergent people.

Also, bro, we are supposed to be distressed about Ed. Not "oh my God, he's such an inhuman monster!" but "oh my God, this lovely, gentle man we love so much is in such horrific despair!"

We're supposed to feel for the crew, who are terrified, and for Ed, who is desperate and wants to die. We're supposed to be shouting at the screen, telling him to hang on. It's supposed to be devastating, because we know what happened to him and we know that Stede is out there, getting closer. That's why the payoff at the end of the season makes sense, because Ed needs to stop. Ed cannot survive as a pirate any longer. It will kill him, and we love Ed. We want Ed to be OK.

We're supposed to care about Ed.

There's this KDrama called "Vigilant" and let me tell you, the bromance in it is so good. It's like a Batman (kinda) & a crazy possessive Joker who happens to be his biggest fan.

who was ur otp from house? i get the feeling the majority of the fandom is wilson/house so a differing ship is really interesting

House/Wilson has stood the test of time but there was definitely a biiiig three-way ship war when the show was on air between that, House/Cuddy, and House/Cameron. I'm House/Cameron ride or die, their chemistry was blazing and full of tension, they hit so many of my top tier tropes, and I honestly think going for endgame with them would have brought about truly stellar character development on both sides. I'm still in love with my first five ships and they totally count.

I was so hoping for a storyline that would bring them back around in later seasons after their false start but we got my nOTP instead and I stopped watching lol

(I dropped it for several reasons but the nOTP was certainly a factor.)

homestuck anon again--im fully biased but I feel like homestuck would make for some fun reading streams! (although I know you have a long list of things you have to get to already!) there's some really cool gender/sexuality stuff + narrative and storytelling things I think you'd enjoy, although it does take a bit to get to. might be more bearable with chat around lol. just a suggestion and fully understand if it doesn't sound appealing! hope you're having a lovely day <3

Oh I def heard good things about the queer rep! If/when I give it a second try and I enjoy it I might read on my own until it gets queer then put it on camera somehow after that. Isn't the whole thing crazy long or am I making that up?

I started to a long time ago and dropped off somewhat early on, I think? IIRC it either took too long to get going or took too long to start making sense, but every now and again I think about giving it another shot.

Hey, Brittany have you heard of Taiwanese bl “unknown” it’s based on priest author of (woh, jitd, guardian) novel Da Ge and it just recently ended, the story and acting was so raw and good, with found family trope as a main focus , I highly recommend it.
