Rumbling to a stop outside of a crummy looking gas station, Seth turned the ignition and glanced in his rear view mirror. A weary gaze met his in the backseat, the flickering neon lights illuminating only the most prominent features of Emmy’s face. A black mass that he could only assume was Richie was draped across her lap, most likely sleeping.

“I’m going in, you need anything?”

Are geckos too obvious? Yes?? What about a snake? Seth, a coyote, and Richie would have to be a snake because, as played out as it sounds... I mean, what else is there, really? Nothing good enough for Richie, but that's maybe the Emmy coming through in my answer? Although, coyotes and crows appear a lot together in Mexican folklore. How's that for some poetry?

Richie and Emmy agree to exchange the most outlandish, off-color, and inappropriately themed Valentine’s Day cards they can find. The pair are so good at it, they wind up only exchanging a handful of their favorites and spend the rest of Valentine’s Day reading the remainder of their collection out loud to each other over greasy fast-food and video rentals.

Richie felt nervous, and it was strange for him, borderline foreign. 

He was the kind of man that could handle anything, or he liked to think so. A man that put himself into high pressure, high stakes situations on a near daily basis. He'd crack safes, pull off complicated strategies with fatal consequences, risk his life and his freedom... all without breaking a sweat. But he was brought to his knees when it came to a little brunette set to meet him that night. That fact, though terrifying, tugged a smile on his lips.

Was it any wonder? All his life he'd tried to make a connection of his own.... And Richie believed he'd finally found it. 

The Gecko fiddled with the pages of the book in his lap for what could only have been the 50th time, smoothing the wrinkles and making sure everything was sticking properly. It was a stall, he knew. Something to busy himself with so the wait wouldn't overwhelm him. He wiggled his knee and glanced at the clock to confirm the time. He'd pick her up in half an hour. 

Better get ready.
