Did I start this all the way back during mermay? Yes. Did I only just finish it now halfway through June? Also yes. Did I start it simply because I wanted an excuse to draw shirtless Ais? Also yes. = v =;

You know personally I'm not a huge fan of octopus mermaids but I had to do it for Ais. It felt necessary given his... circumstances. Yes, I made all his accessories into ocean related stuff like shells and seaweed. I also made his horns into crab claws u v u

This is the level of torment I want for the mc at some point during the game. I'm kidding.................. sort of. But in all seriousness I do want some angst from the mc cause ain't no way you'd be mentally well after any of those possible backstories and living with a curse like that. Anyways, this is my mc design, still thinking of a name for him :> And I think I've listened to Ptolemaea like a hundred times while working on this to try and stay in that mental headspace, I've almost become desensitized to it = v =;

That brings up some interesting implications/perspectives of where mc came from.

If the other settlements are so small then the unnamed mc could have easily and most likely come from a small cult settlement. Think the classic everything seems great despite the circumstances, people are happy, then you find some really messed up rituals or something that everyone is brainwashed into thinking is good. Stranger rolls into town, the curtain is pulled back and as someone with an outsiders perspective they're like "this shit is really messed up actually" and they reveal it to mc who probably had some doubts all along cause how could you not when people act like that when you touch them?

Something else, I wondered what the settlement did with the people they "enlightened" cause people don't seem capable of living a normal life after being touched, they become violent, unresponsive. Life would be hard enough without having to care for a bunch of crazy people who've been locked up for everyone's safety. Which leads me to most obvious culty activity in these sorts of situations. Were they sacrificed into the fog to be eaten by monsters as a way to protect the settlement? They are "lifted to a higher plain of existence"/"enlightened" beforehand. It could be framed like they're lucky to be chosen to join their god/gods. Once touched they seem really happy, unfazed by pain or fear, so surely that's their god/s blessing right? It's okay they're being eaten by monsters, they feel no pain or displeasure about it thanks to the prophet(mc) and for performing the greatest sacrifice they get to live in a higher plain with their god/s. It's a good thing. And so on and so forth...

Unnamed mc also gets visions, very prophet-like. So they were probably revered by others which is isolating in itself and a lot of pressure to take care of everyone and do the right thing. Meanwhile also being manipulated by whatever cult leader there was pulling the strings behind the scenes. Talk about religious trauma o _ o;

Is Eridia the last city?

The previous largest city, Lovent, was the epicenter of the first Fogfall. In the century since, Soulless and Monster incursions destroyed most cities, leaving Eridia as the largest remaining one. Smaller settlements exist, but are deeply vulnerable.

Floorplanner. Design and furnish a house for you to use for having a consistent background in your comic or anything! Free, you need an account, easy to use, and you can save multiple houses.

Comparing Heights. Input the heights of characters to see what the different is between them. Great for keeping consistency. Free.

Magma. Draw online with friends in real time. Great for practice or hanging out. Free, paid plan available, account preferred.

Smithsonian Open Access. Loads of free images. Free.

SketchDaily. Lots of pose references, massive library, is set on a timer so you can practice quick figure drawing. Free.

SculptGL. A sculpting tool which I am yet to master, but you should be able to make whatever 3d object you like with it. free.

Pexels. Free stock images. And the search engine is actually pretty good at pulling up what you want.

Figurosity. Great pose references, diverse body types, lots of "how to draw" videos directly on the site, the models are 3d and you can rotate the angle, but you can't make custom poses or edit body proportions. Free, account option, paid plans available.

Line of Action. More drawing references, this one also has a focus on expressions, hands/feet, animals, landscapes. Free.

Animal Photo. You pose a 3d skull model and select an animal species, and they give you a bunch of photo references for that animal at that angle. Super handy. Free.

Height Weight Chart. You ever see an OC listed as having a certain weight but then they look Wildly different than the number suggests? Well here's a site to avoid that! It shows real people at different weights and heights to give you a better idea of what these abstract numbers all look like. Free to use.
