Gem Morey -- Prom 2025 -- Musée d'Art

Featuring a little hydrangea boutonniere to match Snow's corsage.

"Inspired by painting, Tran Hung's design is practical but still poetic in the show "Musée d'Art".

The Pre-Fall 2021 - "Musée d'Art" collection was launched on the afternoon of December 20 in Ho Chi Minh City, in a space displaying more than 50 contemporary paintings by artist Vu Thu Huyen Trang painted exclusively for the show. "Musée d'Art" is inspired by brush strokes, splashes of color, and bright nature paintings."

Gem let out a little huff. He was relieved she wasn't mad--because yeah, he'd done it to make her laugh. To get a rise out of her. The kind of snooty, posh attitude that she always had. Spoiled little rich girl attitude. He had always liked it, even when he hadn't wanted to admit it. She was like pretty, polished silver that he couldn't stop eyeing.

"Yeah, yeah." Gem got back to his feet. With the hand not holding the box, he grabbed that snooty, lifted chin between his thumb and finger, pulling her in for another kiss.

"Don't worry," he reassured her when the kiss broke. "I've got it all planned out." That was a lie. He had had it all planned out--until everything had exploded in their faces. And, well, things were still exploding in their faces. MAFIA's threats loomed. Grief was a shroud that was heavy to lift...

But he'd make it happen. Just to make her smile.

He held up the box. "You wanna keep this? I worked real hard on it."

Snow shoved him and Gem laughed, tilting and having to catch himself with his free hand bracing against the rug.

"Oi!" he said, still chuckling.

See--he'd thought it would be funny to prompose with a fake out...mostly because he couldn't imagine a world where Snow thought he was serious. Not right now. He had already horribly timed one real-proposal. He wasn't gonna make that mistake again.

One day, yeah. One day, he'd propose and do it at the right time and mean it and all that shit. Obviously.

But not right now.

Maybe the joke was a bit too boy of him. Maybe he shouldn't have done it. But it was funny, wasn't it?

"You're--not really mad, are you?" he asked, squinting up an eye at her.

Right...

He probably shoulda been a little smoother with this. A little quicker on the draw. Because now, Snow was looking at him--alarmed and wide-eyed, which was really not how this was supposed to go down.

He finally managed to pull the box out of his pocket and straighten his knee back up. He held it up between them.

"I know I asked you this once already but--"

He used his thumb to flick open the top of the ringbox. Inside, in place of the ring, he'd rigged a spring that popped out. Attached to the top of it was a piece of cardboard.

Upon which, Gem had scrawled:

"No--wait," Gem said and reached out to hook his hand into Snow's elbow as she passed him. He pulled her to a stop and then tugged a little more until she was facing him.

"Sorry. Wait. I was gonna--"

Well, fuck it. He'd come this far.

Gem got down on one knee, then reached for his pocket.

Only to realize that because of the way he was sitting, with one leg bent, the box was stuck in his pocket. "Aw, fuck--hold on." He straightened his leg out, almost knocking his foot against Snow's as he tilted his hip and fished around for the little velvet box in his pocket.

Gem was distracted by Snow's smile, spreading ear to ear, looking effortless and beautiful. It had been a while since he'd seen it and he found himself endlessly embarrassing for the way his heart squeezed.

"Uh, right," Gem said and leaned over to kiss her hello, as he usually did. Except, when he leaned forward, the little box in his box leaned forward too--and he got a jolt, afraid it was going to fall right out into Snow's lap.

He stepped back and ran a hand through his hair.
