Photographing the Different Stages of Grief Is a Beautiful and Poetic Way to Get Over a Broken Heart

Six months after she experienced a painful breakup, Laura Stevens, who describes herself as a romantic and emotionally driven person, decided to work through those emotions by using her friends and a few strangers to pose for staged portraits that represented her grief.

“What was important for me was to try to represent the different phases of emotions one goes through when experiencing loss, as they can each feel so disparate and acute,” she wrote via email. “You long for the next stage to occur, because it means there is a change and the pain an confusion might sometime cease.”

Tras las escenas en el Ballet de Ciudad del Cabo // Behind the scenes at the Cape Town City Ballet (by Lar Rattray)

Cuando vi esta sesión de fotos no pude resistir el impulso de compartirla. El ballet es el arte llevado al extremo. Me encanta esa fachada de "no dolor", de sonreír y aparentar que todo esta bien cuando en el fondo sufren un intenso dolor en sus cuerpos. Eso se refleja en las fotos, el sudor, el cansancio, la frustración, ...pero cuando el telón se abre la magia comienza y todo se olvida...por unas horas.

“Sé que no estoy solo en decir que siempre me ha atraído lo que sucede ‘detrás de la cortina de terciopelo’. Es una de esas fascinaciones infantiles inexplicables… así que literalmente salté a la oportunidad de ir a los camerinos con un amigo que estaba bailando para Cape Town City Ballet entonces. Esto fue hace años, yo estaba recién salido de la escuela de arte y tuve que pedir prestada una cámara. La compañía de danza estaba en la agonía final de los ensayos antes de su estreno de El Lago de los Cisnes… y por unos días me escondí en las alas en mitad de un mar de tranquilo caos y sudor, encantado por estos seres ingrávidos. Su puro desprecio por la inhibición era fascinante; pero su cruda resistencia, poco menos que sorprendente. Nunca olvidaré la transición perfecta entre el animal exhausto que presencié entre bastidores, a la gracia aparentemente sin esfuerzo e incansable vista por el público en el escenario.” – Lar Rattray

Grupo formado en 2009, Matrimony es un grupo tipo indie-folk-pop ( ahi queda eso) formado por un matrimonio muy majo: Ashlee y Jimmy. En Mayo de 2014 lanzaron su album debut llamado, Montibello Memories, y la verdad es que es muy fácil de escuchar. Lo recomiendo para una tarde tranquila de lluvia en casa mientras lees o simplemente tecleas en el ordenador, o bueno cuando uno quiera y tenga tiempo. Lo importante es siempre escuchar nueva música.
