So I’m pretty new to the whole zine thing, so I’m wondering if there’s anything that’s being expected in your piece specifically? Or is there a theme of any sort?

For artists, the pieces can range from a simple scene, to a comic page, and for writers it can be a story to a scene (although it must be over the minimum and under the maximum word count)

The theme and ideas you are making your piece from will be decided during pitch hitting

Please remember that you can ask questions in the discord, so please do it there so it's not just me who answers (and so you can get answers at all times of the day)

Notes for the zine!! Please read!

Contributor Invites & Pitching will be from Fri 7 March → Fri 21 March

On the 7th (3 days from now) contributor invites will begin to go out. We are aiming for 30-40 contributors, and me and the mods are all going through the submissions and figuring out everyone who is joining

We are assuming that everyone who applied is still available

If you are NOT available anymore, please contact us ASAP

Pitching is lumped withing this period, where all contributors will communicate their ideas for their pieces and talk about them. This is necessary as we don't want very similar pieces and for you guys to work hard on them to realise that things overlap too much

If two (or more) people are okay with it, there will be collabs between contributors were you both(all) work together to create a joint piece (see other asks for more information on this)

Once accepted into the zine, there will be 3 check-in's and then the final date. If at any point you become unable to not contribute, PLEASE inform us! We can either figure out a work around, arrange something, or it's just so we know that you aren't able to contribute anymore

The people who are accepted into the zine will be contacted by a mod or myself, and will be given an invite to the server. Please make sure your friend requests are open so we can send you the invite. If we are unable to contact you on discord, we will try to contact you on Tumblr. If we are further unable to contact you, we will post a message on the blog stating we are unable to contact you. If you don't respond in anyway, you will be removed from the people who are contributing.

Who’s going to be sending out friend requests and invites? I don’t typically accept any frqs unless I’m expecting them so it would be nice to know in advance who to look out for

sorry, but me and a few mods don't feel comfortable with sending out our discords publicity, as anyone could stumble upon them! Please DM this blog and ask for them there, and I'll gladly send them :)

hello!! am I allowed to ask how many contributors have applied so far? and what's the split so far between artists and writers?

there was just over 50 applicants, and around a 75 artists/25 writers split

What kind of stuff do you want in the portfolio (asking as an artist)? As in, do I have to specifically put drawings with multiple people in them, do you want to see specifically Gem & Pearl or does it not matter if they’re in none of them, etc. ?

any piece that shows the level of skill you can produce

The portfolio doesn't have to be GemPearl, also, it could be any pairing, or individual character

Though having drawing(s) with multiple people would be more helpful to display your skill level

I want to ask: How big are you guys planning to make the zine? Or like, roughly how many contributers do you guys think you guys will accept?

And also, what do you guys want to see in the contributers to want to accept them? I'm new to collaborative things and would like to know a lot of things regarding about it:00

Sorry, I'm slightly confused by that phrasing? If accepted into the zine, you get to create any GemPearl-centred piece that you want (within the rules) and they are automatically accepted into the zine if you are a contributor.

you can send both unfinished and completed fics and excerpts, really anything that shows your skill and ability

Forgot to put it in the questions thing in the actual application but! When you answer the Pitch Hitt question is it saying you're willing to do that or just you will be that?

Like chosing to be an understudy instead of an actor I got confused by the question-

if someone drops out (like the actor is sick or leaves the show), you will be part of the group of people who will be chosen to take their role in the zine (an understudy takes their place)

i can't find anything on google so uh what does "pitch hitter" mean? all the google results are for pinch hitters-

also this is a great zine and i'm super excited for how it'll turn out !!

hi! So a pitch hitter is someone who is willing to make another piece if someone drops out.

Pitch hitters will have tighter time constraints, but that's just because we are trying to get the zine uploaded on schedule. However, there is a week/2 week extension if needed for pitch hitters
