An incomplete list of hanging plot threads about Mondstadt:
Varka’s entire mysterious expedition to a foreign land. Where did they go. Why did they go. Why did they take the cavalry but not the cavalry captain. The only other expedition for the Knights we know of was back 500 years ago, during the cataclysm.
Amber’s grandfather, who mysteriously disappeared three years ago or so and maybe turned up with amnesia in his hometown Qingce.
Why Lisa left Academia and now refuses to put effort into things.
Kaeya’s everything.
Why Crepus had a Delusion at all. (There is also Diluc’s three year sabbatical and the organization he joined, but that’s more other countries than Mond.)
What was the deal with Pilos Peak and now with Musk Reef, home of the “venturing out into the universe and down into the abyss are the same” Spiral Abyss.
Andrius and why he’s hanging around as a ghost. Alternatively, why he’s just a ghost and not an evil ghost ala Liyue’s many dead gods.
Vennessa, who is currently the only notable human we know to have ascended. Dainsleif even specifically mentions her.
Albedo’s everything.
Klee, Alice and what they are, since the aren’t necessarily human… or from Teyvat.
Perhaps connected, Mona’s master and the organization she, Alice and (possibly?) Albedo’s master belong to.
The God of Time.
As I was reminded, the mysterious inaccessible basement in Stormterror’s Lair. What’s up with that?

Hey so that Dainsleif quest huh 👀
[Spoilers for those who haven't played it yet ofc]
.
.
.
These are just some disorganized initial thoughts for your consideration:
So I'm pretty sure his "travel companion" that he keeps mentioning is our twin
Does that mean our twin has gone to the exact same places as we've been going?? Dainsleif seemed to be familiar with all the locations we visited in Mondstadt but I suppose that could've been from an even earlier journey
And the possibility that the Abyss is trying to mislead us bc we hadn't encountered any abyss mages since Dvalin 🤔🤔🤔 what do they want??? We know (kinda) that our twin is watching our progress and that they're the prince/princess of the Abyss so like are they trying to keep us from getting in the way of their plans so as not to accidentally hurt us? Though something tells me we're gonna get tangled up in it one way or the other lmao
Dainsleif said that his goal is to oppose the Abyss so perhaps he's got his own secret plans to try to stop our twin (as is also supported by what he said at the end of the mortal travails video about proving ourselves worthy of stopping "her"/Lumine probably)
Also turns out I'd been pronouncing his name wrong the whole time lmao I had been saying dains-leaf instead of dains-lif
No Vision as confirmed by his full character model
Also his eyepatch is more of a phantom of the opera mask lmao
Important observation he looks like post timeskip Dimitri from a distance when I had to meet him in Dvalin's Lair I legit thought he was Dimitri for a sec XD
Anyway those were my thoughts about the new quest lmao my internet was cutting out the whole time while I was trying to play like dsfkdksjf pls I just wanted to talk to blond eyepatch man
Important part of this post:
I took a lot of pictures of Dainsleif if you want to use them as references (or appreciation).  The pictures are under the read more tag so if you don’t want spoilers, don’t read anything and skip to the read more.
Also, he calls you and your sibling “idiots” through money.
He asks for 500 mora and (this is probably just a coincidence but considering Zhongli tips Xiangling 888 mora I’m sus). The number 250  [二百五] or ( èr bǎi wǔ) means “idiot”.
If someone calls you 250, they can say (nǐ shì wǔ bǎi) or “You are [250]”. But if you give someone 500, this can be taken as saying two people are stupid (250 + 250 = 500). I mean, that’s probably not how it works but I think it’s funny to imagine Dainsleif being too polite to call us stupid.
---
I know right? When I saw the leak for it and seeing it confirmed in patch notes, I was so confused. Wha-Why are you here so early? I wasn’t expecting you for another 5 years at least. I’m happy to see you and your beautiful model in game but at the same time I was so worried that we were going to get crumbs of interactions. Same thing with Guizhong in Zhongli’s story quest. Genshin please...finish your stories (that’s fucking hilarious coming from me considering I still have a part 2 to Childe that I need to write), but I’m honestly just happy that he’s in the game. But yes 👀👀 more lore food.
You know, I was talking about the archons a bit with @maagdalen and, I may have been misunderstanding or reading the wrong message, but they brought up the idea that what if the archons’ personality is based on their regions country's? So for example, Venti’s personality adopts the German mentality because Mondstadt was modelled after Germany? Obviously, I have no idea if that’s true because I’m not from or am German but in the context of Liyue and Zhongli. I can definitely see some sort of connection.
But some food for thought:
“But cyro archon is very viable since she's suppose to be a kind hearted person that needed to be cold for the sake of freedom. or peace. something like that.”
“Sorry, but this is stupidly Russian style. No matter what you say, people will always be dissatisfied. Of course it's not that bad...but it's something to think about.“
But yess, @svnflowery said the same thing. That Dainsleif was Lumine’s “guide” the same way Paimon is our guide. I actually think that’s an interesting idea. That Lumine has gone to the exact same places as we’ve been through. It actually makes me wonder (since we can play as both her and Aether), that Lumine went through the same story line as Aether. She met Venti, Zhongli, everything that’s happening right now. She’s already been through, then when she reached the Khaenri’ah chapter she failed. So she decided to spin the clock back and change destiny. I mean, this is me spit balling and I don’t think this happened but it’s something to think about.
You know funny enough, hasn’t Venti been asleep for a while? Either way, he doesn’t really strike me as the type that truly wants to be an Archon. He says in his voicelines as well that “that’s a problem for Mondstadt to deal with”. So it would be easier for the Abyss Order to mess some things up. While Zhongli has been alive for 6000 years and I highly doubt Abyss Order can do anything to him haha. If we’re going on that “Lumine has already been through this journey” she could be trying to re-make or lead us on the same path.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Dainsleif was our guide, then when Lumine spun the clock back and aligned herself with the abyss, that’s when they split. That could be a reason why he’s trying to oppose the abyss order but really I think it’s because the Abyss Order’s goal is to basically set the world on fire (or something like that). I always pronounce character names wrong and I don’t understand why people make such a big deal out of it. You know who I’m talking about, my pronunciation isn’t completely shit to the point you don’t know. So why do you keep yelling at me??
Also. The most important part of his quest was it was “Aether’s version” of the “We will be reunited” trailer.
Tumblr media
It even showed the crushed dandelion flower and the ruin guard footprints. IT’S OUR SISTER.
I knoww, I was searching for his vision and got weird pics but that’s alright, I LOWKEY HATE THE OPERA MASK SO MUCH. GIVE ME ACTUAL MASK. THERE GOES THE “SEPERATE COLOURED EYE” ART OF KHAENRIAH PEOPLE. Yo, knock off Dimitri let’s go.
I love Dainslief’s english voice but I hate Xiao’s en voice. What a dilemma. I usually play in chinese but wow does Dainslief sound old. Jp is slightly better but I hear grandpa vibes. Korean isn’t bad and I actually don’t mind korean xiao so korean we shall go. It’s weird. I like Dainsleif english voices, Xiao chinese voice, paimon korean voice haha. Jp is usually just good all around but I have preferences. But tyty for telling me your thoughts! I’d love to hear about the Xiao quest that just dropped. Beautiful boy

yeah about that...xiao scammed me. I wonder if his speech changes based on what you say. i kind of doubt it though.

Tumblr media
While on this side you can’t.

Recent Teyvat Timeline for Genshin Impact
*slams the table* Mihoyo please give us a cohesive timeline I’m literally begging you
I’ll be posting my best attempt at one sometime, since the Wiki version is full of holes and extra crap. For now, here is a timeline of recent events, not ancient Teyvatian history.
Two months before the start of the game, the traveler wakes on the north-eastern coast of Mondstadt and comes across Paimon.
Six months before the start of the game, Varka left on an expedition, leaving Jean as the Acting Grand Master. It is implied that this is not the first time that either occurrence has happened.
At least three to five years before the start of the game, the events of the manga/webtoon take place.
“Fucking what,” you say. But wait, hear me out.
On the day that Diluc became “of age”, the dragon Ursa attacked and killed his father, Crepus Ragnvindr. We know that Diluc’s birthday is April 30th, so there’s a point to mark on the timeline. The problem is that it is unclear whether ”of age” is meant to be taken as 16, since Mondstadt is based on Germany whose legal drinking age is younger than that of many other western countries, or 18, the age at which one is considered an adult in much of the modern world. It should also be noted that one was considered an adult much earlier in the 1600s than now, which would make 16 the better fit in my opinion. I’ll add the calculations for if he’d been turning 18 down below.
Thus, when the events of the manga occur three years later, “of age” being 16 would mean Diluc is 19. Herein lies a problem: Diluc is stated to have left Mondstadt for four years in his character stories after his father’s death, and yet the manga insists that only three years have passed. This would only make sense if Ludi Harpastum took place before April 30th (ex March), and Diluc’s four year absence was actually just three and a couple months, rounded up. This would make it “three years” since the anniversary hadn’t passed yet, but “four years” for Diluc who rounded the time of his trip. For the sake of clarity, though, let’s call it four years (I’d take the manga’s information with a grain of salt anyways, since it’s somewhat outdated and plenty of other depictions clash with the game’s information).
Thus, when the events of the manga occur, Diluc is (19 set to turn) 20.  We also learn that Amber is not of age to drink alcohol during the festival, pegging her at 15. However, since her birthday is August 10th, it’s likely that she would be set to turn 16 soon. This would match her prepubescent appearance three years prior at twelve years of age.
[Update: Does she look closer to 17 in the manga? Yes. Does the media over-sexualize minors and make them look mature? Also yes.]
To know when the manga takes place relevant to the game, through, is dependent on the age difference between Kaeya and Diluc. The Chinese manga has Kaeya refer to Diluc as “yi xiong”, or “adopted older brother”, which would give us a surprising number because Kaeya has served the Knights of Favonius for ten years, and the youngest that anyone has ever joined was fifteen.
[Update: Would, but not does, Again, the source for this information is outdated, especially with Klee being 8, Fischl joining at 14 or 15, and Diluc having been promoted to Cavalry Captain at 14. However, 25 truly does sound like a reasonable age for Kaeya to be at the beginning of the game, so I’m sticking to my numbers unless more information comes out.]
If Kaeya is truly 25 at the beginning of the game, and Diluc even older, then the manga must take place at least five years before the traveler arrives assuming that Diluc is only months and not years older.
This puts Amber at 20-turning-21, Kaeya at 24-turning-25, and Diluc turning anywhere from  25 to 28 (estimate) at the beginning of the game, which isn’t actually so far off from the theorized 22 years for Diluc and 20 for Amber.
Yes, the fandom is canonically wrong in our depiction of Kaeya as the older brother. I’m so sorry guys, I know, I thought Diluc was the younger one too.
Now, for “of age” meaning 18 and not 16, the time of Crepus’ death works out as such: Diluc would be 21 going on 22 in the manga and the game would take place only at least three years afterward instead of five, which still puts him at 24 going on 25. However, in this case Amber would be 18 going on 19 at the start of the game, which is still reasonable.
For now, we can pretty much take our pick of which version to subscribe to, but depending on if and how old Collei will appear in-game we’ll be able to tell which one is (closer to) canon.

Some Thoughts About Dainsleif’s Quest
I just finished the Bough Keeper Dainsleif quest last night and wow. It was a lot shorter than I thought it would be but it was packed with a ton of info. This is gonna be a long-ass post cause I have a lot of thoughts so everything is under the cut. Obviously this post is filled with spoilers.
(I didn’t screenshot every single line I found important and the quest doesn’t seem to be in the game’s archives yet, and the wiki doesn’t have the full transcript. Since I don’t remember everything I wanted to talk about there will most likely be a part two.)

Thoughts on Kätzlein
Just quickly gathering some thoughts on the Katzlein, from what we've seen so far.
At the moment, we have a few examples: Diona, Draff, Olaf, Sucrose and Lynette from the chapter preview trailer. The best source of info is Diona's profile.
"These feline features are the hallmarks of those with Kätzlein blood in their veins, and it is an exceedingly rare sight in Mondstadt. Other than such aesthetic similarities, Diona and her father Draff also owe their prowess on the hunt to this ancient bloodline. Infiltration, archery, climbing, and dodging... Diona required no teacher for such skills." She can also see well in the dark.
From her Bond 10 card: "All who have Kätzlein blood will have such feline features. An ancient prank played by a certain someone, perhaps?" By who??
From the wiki: Kätzlein is German for "Kitten".
Fun facts:
Some Katzlein have tails (Diona, Lynette) and some don't (Sucrose, Draff, Olaf). I can't see any pattern in this.
Katzlein have no human ears. This isn't obvious from the Mondstadt characters since their hair covers where their human ears would go, but you can see it pretty clearly from Lynette. There's no way a human could have their hair arranged in such a way:
Tumblr media
Interestingly, this means that Lyney (who otherwise seems to be her brother) doesn't have Katzlein features.
Diona is not an adult, though her age is unclear (older than seven tho). One of her voicelines: "I enjoy hunting. I'm especially good at tracking down prey! But Daddy says that the wild is dangerous. One should only go deep into the forest with a reliable adult. ...You're a reliable adult, right?"

So here’s a fun point I didn’t notice before:
The Chasm (upcoming area, probably in 1.5!) was sealed off because the miners dug up “something very strange” which a) might be the source of all the rare ore in the area, and b) put the people who found it in a coma.
Continuing with my pet theory, this theme of “something here is messing with my head” is also present in “Trails in Tianqiu” (Old Treasure Hoarder Notes: “And all of the guys who’ve been in start acting strange once they get out. They insist that the monsters followed them out, but I don’t see any monsters around them.”) and in the Nameless Treasure puzzle in Dunyu Ruins (Ruins Investigation Log: “Whenever I’m out investigating, I always get this feeling like somebody’s watching me. And at night, I hear these faint, mournful groans…
What links these two? Of course it’s Azhdaha!
Geographically, these are neighboring but not necessarily very close locations, however I feel like they’re not separate enough for this to be a coincidence either. And of course, the current “Vishaps and where to find them” event plays into the whole thing because the vishaps are mysteriously back after being gone for so long…

I know we didn’t get to see other regions in Genshin yet other than Mondstat and Liyue but I have a feeling that when we finally do, our journey ends on Mondstat because like,
Mondstat was the first region to be aware of the abyss order’s plans. The first time we’ve seen the abyss order moving was on the very start of the game where you meet up with Amber and she notices that Hilichurls aren’t supposed to be setting up camps since they usually run astray and don’t do that. There’s also the Diluc quest where you really get to fight the abyss order, F2F.
Most of the characters from Khaenri’ah (should I say ‘Khaenri’an’ to make it simpler or?) stay on Mondstat. First we have Kaeya who’s backstory is sad af and then Albedo, who prolly isn’t human, and then Dainsleif who appeared out of nowhere in the latest update and then doing these abyss order related investigations.
In all of Genshin’s collected Miscellanies, Most of Dain’s questions of doubt are directed to the Mondstat characters. First we have that Klee collected miscellany where Dain asks if Klee could still keep smiling if that “something” happens, and then in the Diluc collected miscellany where he wonders if Diluc would have the same determination in protecting Mondstat if that “something” happens too. While he does question Liyue characters too, it’s usually about if the characters get the peace of mind that they want, while for Mondstat characters it always prophesy things and it’s sus
And yeah that’s just what I thought of.

Tianqiu and Nantianmen
I think everyone probably already noticed this, but there's a fairly obvious thread being laid down about a future boss/event in the Nantianmen area.
tl;dr since this got long:
There is a dragon sealed in the tree in Nantianmen.
It is connected to geovishaps and possibly Azhdaha in Tiangqiu Valley. There may be two separate but connected beings involved.
It(/they) will awaken soon. (Future event!!)
Now, for the details below!
Let's start with the tree:
Tumblr media
At the foot of this Moonlit Tree is a stone tablet:
Tumblr media
And also a creepy little girl named Jiu:
Tumblr media
The games very sure you are aware of her via the quest "The Secret of Nantianmen" which consists of purely going to this tree, talking to her, and fighting two geovishap hatchlings.
Her dialogue (with some minor lines removed):
"The awakening is coming... and with it, the storm..."
Jiu: You're a little early... Are you here to witness the resurrection of the most ancient, most awe-inspiring individual in Liyue's history?
[about Rex Lapis] Jiu: Hah... That usurper?
Jiu: Humans... They care only about history since the dawn of the age of mankind...
Jiu: Are people really happy to just draw a line under the litany of atrocities humanity's ancestors are responsible for, call it "ye olde worlde," and just get on with their merry little lives?
Jiu: Well, I hope that anyone who willfully indulges in this fantasy world of false prosperity will be consumed by it, and thus get what they deserve.
Jiu: The adepti thought to suppress it with trees. Hah! Fools! Little did they know that after thousands of years... the trees that hold the beast shall surely become one with the beast...
Jiu: And lo, it shall stretch wide its arms, and unfurl its body, and reach out with its roots... And the ley lines of the world shall heed its call.
Jiu: Then, once the beast has quenched its great thirst for that energy which only the ley lines can provide...
Jiu: I imagine any significance we presume to have in this world will vanish for good. Wouldn't you agree?
(Worth noting: Jiu refers to a "He" in a reverent manner during The Secret of Nantianmen, but talks about "it" "the beast" instead dring her normal dialogue. These may be separate things.)
Whatever is sealed in Nantianmen is also mentioned in the description of The Unforged, a claymore that ran along side Vortex Vanquisher. (The theme presumably being "past enemies of Rex Lapis that he only sealed instead of killing properly.")
A long time ago, a dragon there was to be found in Liyue. But it was not a dragon that soared through the skies, but one whose abode was the mountains. Indeed, this ancient dragon of stone was as large as the very mountains it called home.
The legends say that it slumbered in Nantianmen, seeming not at all unlike the surrounding hills.
Then, Rex Lapis came before the dragon, seeking to stop the earth's quailing. They say that for a long while, the land knew peace, and that Rex Lapis gained another comrade by his side.
But in the end, the union of dragons, gods and men was perhaps not to be... The dragon was sealed in the bowels of the earth, and fearing the burning ire of the gods and the adepti, that great vishap, that had once caused rock and stone to tremble, fled into the roots of the mountains.
But over the passage of millennia, the dragon would stir once again...
The legends hold that those who triumphed over the dragon stabbed this sword into the giant tree that subdued the ancient dragon. As one of the seals, monsters and malevolent mortals would be unable to touch it. Indeed, if the legends are true, only those with hearts as pure as clear mirrors could even come near it. Yet, if those legends are true, how did this sword come to be lost?
Nantianmen, check. Sealed in a tree, check.
You can see, this is all connected to geovishaps in some way, and their lore ALSO talks about then returning after a long time. Two hatchlings spawn when talking to Jiu causes an earthquake, The Unforged talks about "that great vishap," the Primo Geovishap's boss area is right near Nantianmen...
Tumblr media
Here is the Primo Geovishap description:
After many years, the awesomely powerful Ancient Geovishaps grow accustomed to changes in their elemental environment.
Folktales hold that after the great draconic calamity that led to the ruination of Tianqiu Valley, the overlord of the Geovishaps and Primo Geovishaps was imprisoned deep beneath the earth, and so too did they burrow into deep and unseen places, awaiting their chance to rise once more...
(Note again that the vague language here and in The Unforged makes it entirely possible that the "draconic calamity"/"the dragon" sealed in the tree and the "overlord of the vishaps" are two separate beings.)
But here we get to the next point: Tianqiu Valley. And with Tianqiu Valley, there is an important name: Azhdaha.
One of the associated wiki pages suggests that the dragon in Nantianmen might be the Chi. But I don't think that's likely, given how far away Qingce is and that we do find what is probably the Chi's heart in a cave near the village there. Far more likely is Azhdaha.
Now, Azhdaha is mentioned in two pieces of lore. One is a tablet in Tianqiu Valley, during the "Trails in Tianqiu" quest.
Ancient Tablet: "At Tianqiu Valley the adepti's ancient trail grows cold, I fall down and weep at the ruins I see. Though defeated is mighty Azhdaha of old, there's no restoring this past land of beauty."
(The trail "grows cold" in Tianqiu, so it might have started elsewhere, like Nantianment.)
Something in the valley is very much lingering, based on the notes of the treasure hoarders who tried to solve the puzzles first:
Scratched-Out Treasure Hoarder Notes: "I'm to the point where I'm trying to crack this puzzle in my dreams, or maybe nightmares is more accurate... I saw an old man squatting beside me with a wide grin, urging me to hurry up and solve the puzzle."
Scratched-Out Treasure Hoarder Notes: "Hmm, no... was it an old man or a young girl? ...Ugh, I can't remember."
Old Treasure Hoarder Notes: "And all of the guys who've been in start acting strange once they get out. They insist that the monsters followed them out, but I don't see any monsters."
There is more details about Azhdaha in regard to the "Nameless Treasure" items:
Linlang: I just had a look at this one. These markings are definitely those of Liyue, and you can see inscribed here an anecdote about Azhdaha.
Linlang: They say that Azhdaha was a dragon spawned by a convergence of the spirits of Geo in Liyue, and that even Rex Lapis could not easily subdue it.
Linlang: Rex Lapis thus summoned three adepti to his aid, and together they created a cavernous realm.
Linlang: Rex Lapis then battled the creature, luring it into the cavern, before ordering the adepti to seal the entrance, trapping Azhdaha within.
Linlang: The patterns on the thing you brought seem to describe the three adepti joining hands to create the cavern.
And when you get all three treasures:
Linlang: You... actually managed to put them together? Please, let me see... Indeed, these three patterns, when put together, do tell the story of Azhdaha.
Linlang: This crane must be the adeptus Mountain Shaper, and this deer might be Moon Carver. But this last one...
Linlang: Eh? It seems like this pattern has been... intentionally ground away by someone, to the point where I can't make it out. Who was this third adeptus?
Yes, who was the third adeptus??
Obviously, there is a discrepancy here, saying Azhdaha was sealed in a "cavernous realm," but it's all vague enough that the mechanics can be explained away with more detail. Also, I do feel like there might be two connected beings, once in the tree, one deep underground.
