I literally just saw a post saying white people are not allowed to comment on accents? Like what? This shit has gone too far what is even wrong with people.fuck.

In my work we get a lot of labourers from Australia, England, and Ireland on working vacations and the accent thing always comes up and most of them are white too? It comes up sometimes from me admiring the accent, or really thick ones like Manchester sometimes we struggle to understand each other when we first meet and sometimes they apologise and I’m like NooooOOO DO NOT I am just getting used to your speech patterns they are A+ don’t apologise! I’m sorry for being so not traveled rn man. And I have a very slight speech impediment plus use too much slang And speak too fast DO NOT WORRY, FRIEND.

And I’m always like “man I think your accents are so cute and my accent makes me sound like garbage” and they’re like “NOOOOOO WE THINK THAT BUT REVERSED YOUR ACCENT IS CUTER��� tell me what exactly is wrong with this?

And a ton of Mexican and Japanese people come here for work or school. I’ve worked with a lot of Mexican kids and meet many Japanese students as I live near the schools and residences and when they apologise for their “bad” English(it’s never bad, the fact that they can be here and speak any English at all is fucking amazing) I’m just like “nah your English is perfect and your accent makes it even better coz it sounds nice” like…..English is different everywhere, and sounds different for every ESL person too and it’s beautiful? and my American friends tease me about my Canadian accent allllways and southern girls sound amazing with their accents (ie New World Witchery and Just a Story podcasts)

I love accents and dialects and there is literally nothing wrong with appreciating the many different ways there are to pronounce things so maybe chill tf out.
