Figure I give my thoughts on what we've seen so far regarding Romeo Is a Dead Man! Normally I would make a video, but simply do not have time, and am too caught up with a much larger video project. This entire thing is being written while on the road during my job. Anyway, for a 2-minute trailer, this was pretty chunky with gameplay, considering this is their first time properly showing this new game.
We can go step-by-step with what was shown. The first shot looks like it's taken right out of Perfect World in No More Heroes 3, just with better graphics. To be frank, it's likely just coming from reliance on Unreal assets.
The animation style in the beginning is similar to previous projects related to Suda, such as Tokio of the Moon's Shadow and Electric Thunder Tiger 2 from Travis Strikes Again.
When Romeo is fatally wounded, his grandfather provides this apparatus that stops him from dying, which is implanted directly into his eye, granting him not only life, but even regeneration of his body. I couldn't help but notice . . . Doesn't that sound familiar? I'm not sure how much intent there was to making this sound just like the silver eyes from Suda's Kill the Past games, but it certainly intrigues me.
Benjamin (Romeo's grandpa) comes up with his nickname as he's transforming. It sounds really similar to some dialogue from The Silver Case. Again, not sure how intentional that was.
As we see Romeo slashing up dudes, I was like "Oh, we're doing sword guy again? That's fine I guess." Some of his sword combos even look similar to Travis' strings in NMH3.
But he quickly starts using other weapons and even goes bare knuckle against these creatures! Aight, NOW I'm hype!!!
It looks like there's also going to be types of summons you can use with their own abilities like freezing and exploding on enemies. It'll likely be similar to using chips in Travis Strikes Again.
I also think there's going to be in-game inter-dimensional traveling, looking at the element in the background of this first image. This could just be part of general stage design, but it also reminded me of the way Ratchet and Clank was able to do seamless teleporting in-game as a mechanic, something they boasted as part of the PS5's internal power. However, seeing as how there's a PC version of that game, it's not a feature exclusive to the console.
Speaking more on inter-dimensional travel, I think the majority of the footage we saw was from a single stage. I couldn't help but notice a lot of the venues looked like a shopping district, or a mall, and there were many zombie-like enemies in Romeo's path. Possibly an homage to Dawn of the Dead, but I expect the final game to have a large variety of unique stages, each with its own assortment of enemies.
I'm hoping the game has a structure similar to Travis Strikes Again. A variety of unique-looking stages to explore, but a hub world where we can relax and learn more about the characters in between.
The core gameplay looks similar to Killer Is Dead, where there's hack-n-slash but with a quick swap to gunning. However, Romeo appears to have meatier gunplay, similar to Shadows of the Damned. I think this is going to have more rigid, but more intuitive gameplay compared to Killer Is Dead, which I think was more concerned with being a visual feast than have superb game feel.
The trailer also teases a bunch of other types of gameplay styles, like an isometric game, an arcadey Pac-Man type, and even an RPG. I'm curious how deep these kinds of games go, assuming they're not WarioWare-esque micro games. Again, perhaps we can expect something like NMH1 or Travis Strikes Again where each stage has its own unique gimmick.
People noticed a character that goes by Juliet. While the credits near the end show her full name as Juliet Dendrobium, I think there's a small chance she can be Juliet Chesterfield from Travis Strikes Again. While she served as an homage to Juliet Starling from Lollipop Chainsaw, Suda has thrown us off the scent before by simply changing someone's name up. Who knows!
Speaking more on interconnected worlds, some people are wondering if this is the illustrious Grasshopperverse game that Suda51 himself has talked about in the past.
I can't say for sure, as obviously nothing is explicitly shown in the teaser. But never say never! Suda is known for cheekily placing thread-thin connections between his games wherever he likes. My only request is for the connections to not feel cheap. Ambiguity is the most intriguing aspect of this, IMO.
People were a little disappointed that Suda isn't the sole director, but he is still going to be heavily involved in directing alongside Ren Yamazaki, who helped him direct Travis Strikes Again. I think these two are going to cook up something awesome here!
One last thing to note, the idea of Benjamin being alongside Romeo as an embroidered caricature on his back is neat. If you look at some of the footage, you can see him reacting to Romeo attacking.
Suda has really gotten into giving the main character some sort of sidekick to bounce off with dialogue, as we've seen in Shadows of the Damned, Lollipop Chainsaw, and No More Heroes III. What makes this more endearing, however, is that we'll be able to see Benjamin emote and react to things, something the aforementioned games lacked. This is ALSO reminiscent of the initial concept Suda had for Paula in Shadows of the Damned, where she was not Garcia's girlfriend, but instead the spirit of a child that was inside his gun, and she would appear on a screen whenever Garcia used his gun and react as you fired shots at enemies.
I'm looking forward to Romeo Is a Dead Man (god what a cool title) and can't wait to see them show more! Suda teased this project over two years ago, and I'm happy to see it shaping up nicely. While the studio team looks huge, perhaps bigger than NMH3, I think this is going to be structured more like TSA, but with a more robust combat system. That is very enticing to me, and I'm excited to see what kind of story he and Yamazaki will weave in this new world of sci-fi violent action!

2024 RECAP
It's that time of the year once again: the end of it. The holiday season is hitting us with its capitalistic drive, cold-ass weather (if applicable), and family love (if applicable)! I'm enjoying my little break from making videos and reflecting on the work I put out in 2024. My video count was much higher than in 2023. But even then, I had a lot more in mind, so much so that I made a cute little MV for patrons in the beginning of the year. Sadly, not everything I considered 'locked in' came to fruition.
But that's okay, because I still came out with some fun videos! The projects I couldn't focus on aren't entirely abandoned, but they'll have to simmer more as I have big plans for 2025. That doesn't necessarily include everything I had in mind for this ending year, but you'll see. With that, let's go over all the videos I managed to create for this channel throughout this year leaving us;
Sonic 3D Retrospective | Onto Adventure

I have begun a retrospective series on Sonic's post-2D era, as I've always had a passing interest in the franchise.
The point of the video:
I used to be a major poser regarding some Sonic games, most notably blindly hating Adventure 1. This gave me a chance to reevaluate and describe why I love it as an adult today. I also found it interesting how vastly different SA1 and 2 are from each other, so I wanted to explore that as well.
Deadly Individualism: Frog Minutes

This was my first ever April Fools video, and it was a lot of fun to make! Thanks to an anonymous individual that made Frog Minutes playable via Android emulator, I got to experience a Grasshopper "gem" of sorts myself! I had a great time goofing on it as well as various comments disparaging my work. They motivate me just as much as the rest!
The point of the video:
I wanted to surprise folks as it was a long-running joke about when I'd make a video analysis on Frog Minutes, so I thought it made for a great gag!
Suda51 interview | Talking about Shadows of the Damned

One of my dreams came true, I got to meet Suda51 and talk to him extensively about his games, mainly Shadows of the Damned! This video pretty much had the entire interview, with added visual context of what we're discussing.
The point of the video:
To live a dream. Suda himself was a very kind man. I also had him sign my copy of Moonlight Syndrome, which he absolutely freaked out about! I don't think anyone has had him sign a copy of that in years, if ever.
I Do NOT Want a Flower, Sun, and Rain Remaster | Prelude Analysis

Originally part of the full analysis where I would go on an early tangent regarding the nature of video game remakes, I figured it was good enough to warrant its own video, rather than be a somewhat random tangent about game remakes in general.
The point of the video:
I realized I'm not a fan of most game remakes, I think just about all are unnecessary and pretty much always provide a downgraded experience of the original. Even regarding Resident Evil 1 (the go-to "what about-" example), I still prefer playing the original above the remake.
3 videos about Dead Rising Deluxe Remastered

Initially, I was merely reacting to the news of the original Dead Rising getting a full-on remake, as I figured people would be curious about my thoughts. To my surprise, Capcom recognized my dedication and reached out to me with early access and a free copy! I had to take the opportunity and provide deeper thoughts of my experience.
The point of the videos:
To properly evaluate what I thought of the remake, things that changed, and things that stayed the same. And, of course, to appease Capcom as they did me a solid. I was more than happy to make these videos!
Flower, Sun, and Rain Analysis | Yes Paradise

Another gigantic analysis video in a game directed by Suda51? Who could have guessed? Unlike my analysis for The Silver Case, this felt less daunting as I found Flower, Sun, and Rain easier to understand. Therefore, I had a great time really dissecting what Suda and the gang were trying to say with it.
The point of the video:
I never gave this game a proper analysis until now. A lot of people think it's just senseless and quirky, but there's actually a lot of great nuance and intrigue. Also, I wanted to describe that its story and structure is eerily close to how No More Heroes 3 was designed and even narrated. Awesome game.
In Here Is a Tragedy | The Silent Hill 2 remake is terrible

Experiencing the Silent Hill 2 remake was both grueling and gratifying. I felt a near infinite amount of vindication, as nearly all of my suspicions were proven right. The Silent Hill 2 remake is anti-art and anti-thought. Just like with The Medium, the developers did not take this harrowing adventure's centerpiece of severe mental health and trauma seriously. They tried selling an arthouse film like a theme park ride, which is all sorts of disgusting.
The point of the video:
I jokingly sent a request for a review code on Silent Hill 2, and Konami was dense enough to send it to me. I felt obligated to make a review at that point.
Shadows of the Damned | Bygone Era of Third Person Shooters

Shadows of the Damned received a proper remaster in 2024, making the game available on all current platforms! I wanted to give my thoughts on the port itself, as well as reflecting on this 2011 classic TPS. Also, the fine folks at NetEase sent me a code to review it, which was kind of them.
The point of the video:
Shadows of the Damned represents this era of TPS games that were more arcadey, faster-paced, and fun. I wanted to reflect on how TPS games don't play like it anymore, and why that might be the case.
Iron Meat Review | Finally, a good Contra game
I was given the opportunity of reviewing Iron Meat, an indie run-n-gun game that's heavily inspired by the Contra series. And, in turn, excels the efforts of current Contra in every single way imaginable.
The point of the video:
Contra is truly dead. Anything official using the name is merely a husk piece of the old game's glory. It's either unrecognizable, or nostalgia-grabbing trite with uninspired design. Retroware has a much better understanding of run-n-gun design than Wayforward, or anyone at Konami. It's sad, but I'm glad the spirit of Contra lives in indie gems such as this!
That's it for now, thank you so much for supporting me! I hope to make more awesome videos in 2025, catch y'all next time, and happy holidays!

NEW VIDEO! Capcom was gracious enough to grant me a hands-on experience with Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster more than a month before launch! All of the gameplay footage is my own, as I express what I think of this revamped trip to Willamette! Check it out🧟♂️🛒🧟♀️📸🧟
I am extremely grateful for Capcom giving me this opportunity! There's a lot of things to like about this upcoming Deluxe Remaster, and I'm really excited to see how everyone else takes this game in! This is only a hands-on impression video that shows me playing the first couple cases, as I was instructed to not go beyond that for the video. Around the time the game launches (September 19, 2024) is when I'll provide a full review regarding the experience as a whole.

NEW VIDEO! My Thoughts on Dead Rising: Deluxe Remaster
I give my thoughts on the recent previews of the Dead Rising 1 remake/remaster/rewhatever! It's been so long since I was genuinely excited for a new Dead Rising project (about 15 years if I'm quite honest), and I'm happy to share my optimism as well as a couple concerns . . . but I'm mostly positive in this!
The original game means everything to me as a game liker. Almost nothing else of the 7th generation of games came as close to being as sacred in my heart as Dead Rising 1. The idea of remaking it feels blasphemous right out the gate, but I think the creators involved are showing a lot of love and respect for the original experience, and want that to remain intact, while mostly updating the visuals. I can't help but get giddy seeing the classic Willamette get such a large visual redesign, but without coming out unrecognizable.
Part of me is a tad cynical, feeling like no other move for this series was possible after the desecration that was Dead Rising 4. It's hard to move past the charming, unique characterization of Frank West. I can see this becoming a jumping-off point that reboots the entire series, which makes me even more excited. A Dead Rising 2 that plays like DR1?! SIGN ME UP!
You can bet I'll be streaming this game as soon as possible. I want to set up a fun stream schedule where me and a friend blow through the original games in anticipation for "DR DR" but I'm not sure if that's in the cards. We'll see! If you're still reading this, hope you enjoyed the video, and thanks for supporting me!

NEW VIDEO: I do NOT want a remake of Flower, Sun, and Rain
youtube
My latest video, serving as a prelude to my full-on analysis of Flower, Sun, and Rain! This was originally part of that script, but felt mostly like an off-topic tangent. So, instead, I decided to make this its own video while slightly expanding my thoughts about remakes of video games in general. Something that I feel tends to fall into 3 separate categories, one which I can always respect. Please give it a watch and share if you like it! Also, please play Flower, Sun, and Rain on DS. It's very easy to do so.

Rewatched the Avatar TLA series with my partner recently, and fell in love with the world and characters all over again. I especially love the journey Zuko goes through the show as a character.
Zuko, son of Fire Lord Ozai. He seems pretty by-the-books at first as this angry villain, but something that makes him immediately unique for this kind of setting is his young age. He's barely older than Aang, our child protagonist.
"You're just a child." "Well, you're just a teenager!"
Although early on you start getting the idea that there's more nuance to him than this villain trying to incapacitate our protag, he shows some depth in his character here and there, usually through his uncle Iroh, a wise warrior that's there to aid and comfort his nephew, joining his banished trip on his own accord. While he's on the villain's side, it's worth noting he never hurts or intimidates innocent people, only ever fighting those already attacking or threatening him.
Even so, Zuko made it blatantly clear what his intents were. "I must capture the avatar to regain my honor." And he barely changed his mind about this throughout the entire first season, even when the two helped each-other out of hopeless circumstances, hinting that they're not meant to be sworn enemies.
"If we knew each-other back then, do you think we could've been friends too?"
Knowing the show and how it transpires across all 3 seasons, it's interesting seeing the intent the writers and showrunners had for these characters, and their hidden depth, all the way back in this first season. One of the finest examples would be Iroh sharing Zuko's history with fellow soldiers. A history which helps said soldiers --and in turn, the audience-- empathize with him.
Behind Zuko's scarred face is a story about a boy already feeling lost and unsure of himself, stumbling into a tragedy where his father --in sheer arrogance-- abused his son to a high degree in front of all his subordinates, in a heinous act he would call punishment.
Ever since then, he was banished to travel across the world to search for the avatar, a task his father felt was worthless, but was the same as leaving him out to die. This isn't the origin of a villain, but a downtrodden individual who couldn't find his place in life.
What Zuko called "honor" over and over again wasn't that, but his father's love. He already lost his mother, and instead yearned for his father's approval and affection. This culminated to his ultimate betrayal, siding with his sister and turning his back on his uncle, which lead to his imprisonment. During a crossroad and moment of insecurity, he threw his uncle Iroh to the wolves because he thought he would regain his honor and earn his right to be a part of his family once again.
Zuko would be welcomed back into his family, he retrieved what he thought was his honor --and what he thought was genuine love from his father.
"You have redeemed yourself, my son."
But even then, he still felt lost, alone, and without a sense of direction. Nothing changed, his soul still felt incomplete.
"For so long, I thought that if my dad accepted me, I'd be happy. My dad talks to me, he even thinks I'm a hero! Everything should be perfect, right? I should be happy now, but I'm not! I'm angrier than ever, and I don't know why!"
It took him a long time (about 2 and a half seasons) to realize he didn't need this sense of "honor" and what he was chasing was just a farce. His father only showed Zuko "love" when he seemed useful, an asset that was helping his fascist conquering of multiple nations by killing the Avatar.
All of this drew to an enthralling, terrifying, heart-wrenching moment between him and his father during the day of the eclipse. He used the minutes they could not fire bend as an opportunity to let out the truth and his own epiphany. He admitted that he never killed Aang --didn't even try, for that matter-- and that he's going to help him defeat his father's regime. Ozai immediately despised Zuko for this, proving his 'love' was conditional and hollow. And at that moment, as soon as the eclipse ceased, he attempted to kill his own son right then and there in a moment that never fails to draw tears out of me as soon as it happens.
Zuko survived his father's lethal attack, only by sheer will, and a lighting-redirection technique his uncle happened to teach him a while back, emphasizing how important Iroh is to him. Iroh is the father figure that truly loved Zuko unconditionally. Ozai, his biological father, could only grant him death. His uncle Iroh, at that moment, inadvertently granted him life.
And Zuko's story (mostly) ends in the middle of the 4-part finale. With the help of his friends, he tracked down Iroh who escaped from prison. The moment he sees his uncle, he breaks down as he's horribly ashamed of his actions, expecting Iroh to shun him as he feels he does not deserve his uncle's love after what he did to him.
"I was never angry with you . . . I was sad, because I was afraid you lost your way."
But Iroh doesn't hesitate to embrace him. Like I said, his love is unconditional. He knew Zuko wasn't evil, he was only being manipulated by the likes of his father and sister. He knew Zuko would find the right path, restore his own honor, and come back to him. It's such a beautiful moment and the soul-piercing conclusion to Zuko's story, a story they were building up since the literal first episode.
Of course, there's also Azula, his sister. She was considered a prodigy with her amazing fire bending abilities, mastering the skill of bending lightning, something only her father and uncle were able to do before her.
She was a spitting image of her father; fierce, manipulative, wrathful, the only thing she shared with her brother Zuko was their sense of determination. But we don't learn what really drives Azula until the finale. It's similar to Zuko. He felt incomplete without his father's love. While this was implied before the finale, Azula felt she was missing her mother's love.
While I think the argument could be made that this was just her own projection, it's important that this shows how --despite her more respected place in their family and nation-- she was just as broken and spiritually lost as Zuko. While Ozai showered his daughter with praise for all of her life, Azula felt her mother didn't love her, which ate away at her, deep inside. Much like Zuko, who felt he was fighting to earn his father's love.
Azula, to me, represents Zuko's future if he let his father manipulate him, just like Azula did to him. Would he have become this tyrannical fire lord if he just listened to his father, abandoned his inhibitions, and ensured his nation's regime? Maybe. But like Azula's interrupted crowning, it would have been shallow, lonely, and without any real sense of self-worth. Nothing to show for it but a broken mind.
Instead, Zuko became the fire lord on his own terms, and with the entire world in support of him, as he helped this quest for peace and balance across the nations. He earned his place in life through his own will, his own actions, and his amazing uncle who only wanted the best for him. He restored his honor himself, with lifelong friends by his side.
That's it, that's all I wanted to write about. This show rules.

NEW VIDEO! I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to meet Suda51, the man himself, and conduct a 45-ish minute interview. This video is basically the whole interview cut down neatly, the audio cleaned up to my best ability, and showing visual context where I felt appropriate. Please enjoy!
youtube
Man, I've been blazing with these uploads lately, huh? Perhaps part of me just feels charged from getting to meet one of my heroes for the first time. Suda51 means a lot to me as a creator, and I'm still having a hard time believing I received such an opportunity. I was also very happy to meet Grasshopper's PR folks I've been exchanging emails with for a while now.

I have so many more videos I want to make, but I've really slowed down on uploads lately. Of course, part of that has to do with how long some of these videos tend to be. But I feel so insanely motivated to keep going, more than ever, where making this particular one felt almost dream-like the entire way through.

I'll be forever grateful to everyone that supported me throughout the years with their views, likes, dislikes, comments, patronage, everything! It's because of you all I was able to make this happen. You all rock! Thumbnail art by @doctorgrambo!

NEW VIDEO! This is part 1 of a retrospective series on 3D Sonic games! This video focuses on Sonic Adventure 1 and 2.
youtube
This video, in some ways, is me reconciling with old feelings and childhood memories about these two games, especially 2 since it was the first Sonic game I ever got as a kid, back on the Gamecube.
I've always had interest in Sonic as a franchise but haven't dived deep into it since I was in my teens, so this was a refreshing way to really dig into how I feel about the 3D games. It was also a means to express my newfound admiration for the original Sonic Adventure, one of the best games in the series, in my opinion. And probably the most unique and creative game regarding the 3D entries.
This is only the beginning of the video series, as I plan to cover all the mainline 3D Sonic games (and then some, probably) in depth alongside SonicKick, hope you enjoy the beginnings and look forward to future entries!

2023 YouTube channel recap!
It is now the end of the year, so now I'm looking back at the videos I managed to release in 2023! There weren't too many, but they were all challenging in unique ways. So let's take a look!
Hi-Fi Rush | As Basic As Things Can Get

So, this video is pretty polarizing. And I knew it would be! Hi-Fi Rush received endless praise when it was released in January 2023. Being fairly dabbled in both action platformers and hack-n-slash games, I had to see how it was for myself. And the water of mediocrity splashing at my face was cold enough to convince me I needed to vent about it in video form. I took this video as a lesson on exercising absolute honesty. I feel like I have been holding myself back with a lot of video projects because I was afraid of coming off too strong. But this time I didn't care. I let out my most raw, uncouth feelings about this game because I want to be more comfortable with my voice and assertiveness. In that sense, I think I succeeded. The split ratio would say otherwise, though.

The point of the video: Hi-Fi Rush took advantage of having this specific art style that not a lot of high-end companies really tackle, and that carried it throughout waves of praise, despite having middling game design and lack of confidence in what it actually succeeds in. It underplays its own strength--the hack-n-slash combat-- and pads the game out to a high degree suing boxy platforming with only character dialogue attempting to make it drag less. Games like Devil May Cry and Bayonetta have similar structures where it showcases awkward platforming that isn't very fun to perform, but they both go elbow-deep with their pure combat (which takes up the majority of their campaigns) because the developers were confident in the hack-n-slash gameplay. Tango did not have that confidence, which is why the majority of the gameplay is boxy platforming that lacked any sense of urgency or challenge.
Also, the writing sucks complete ass and Chai is a terrible example of writing an unlikable protagonist. Nothing will ever convince me otherwise. I'm so sick of everyone trying to make their own Spider-Man.
I don't regret this video, even a little bit. I don't care how many people unsubscribed, if they're not here to take in my thoughts and feelings, what are they here for? Because that's all I'm doing and will continue to do with my channel.
Crime is Crime | The Silver Case Analysis

This was something I've wanted to do for years, but prioritized Travis Strikes Again as well as No More Heroes 3. Even so, The Silver Case was a daunting project. I'm not a professional writer, I never took any elective courses for it throughout my school career. I don't consider myself even remotely smart, never-mind 'an intellectual.' I'm not even that familiar with philosophy and such, so part of me was thinking "Do I even have the capacity to analyze this game?" literally every single second I was writing, capturing, and editing the video.
Regardless, in the end, I think I got a good grasp of the story and was able to dissect a lot of it in a satisfying manner.
The point of the video: Crime will always exist, but what's more interesting is the source of it. The motivation of an individual, a society, or even a corporation. The game also showcases a lot of elements and even narrative quirks that would be prevalent in Suda51's future directing gigs. I think he and his crew have some fine critiques on things like capitalism, police justice, and what it means to be a part of a controlled society. It doesn't give any answers in how you can change the worst parts of a society, but it isn't really meant to in any real way, it just isn't that simple.
Analyzing Henry Cooldown | The Devil In the Details
What started out as a little defense piece for Henry in No More Heroes 3 ended up much longer and more in-depth than I initially planned. While looking over his dialogue, appearance, and overall design, I realized there is so much more to this living plot-twist.
The point of the video: I think Henry represents the devil for Travis Touchdown. And this further accentuates what I've pontificated in my full analysis of NMH3, that Travis is stuck in this eternal form of hell. While Suda has never explained --and probably never will-- what he was trying to say with games like NMH, I like to think having Travis be cursed with eternal battle, eternal recognition, and eternal brand potency (like many video game icons) was something he was considering, at least by the time he was making NMH3.
And, sure, I've analyzed and described Henry to mean different things, but so what? He can be more than one thing. Nothing is certain, a lot of this will remain open for interpretation. That's art.
Grasshopper's Translator | James Mountain Interview
Earlier this year I got to have a nice, long chat with James Mountain, the main translator/interpreter of Grasshopper Manufacture! I wanted his input since he was the sole individual given the task to translate the entirety of The Silver Case from beginning to end. I ended up learning a lot about him as well as the process of such a dense job that is interpreting a visual novel completely by yourself. I also thought it'd make a good exercise if I ever want to release videos like this again. I had fun learning how to make audio visualizers as well as including visual context during our conversations.
The point of the video: There was a lot of debate (and bickering) in regards to the English interpretation of the game, and I figured who better to clarify their process of the whole thing than the interpreter himself? I had a lot of fun conducting this interview, and there were a lot of bits I didn't use for my analysis video, so I figured it would make a nice bonus for everyone!
That's everything from this year! I'm really proud of how all of these videos came out, and I'm itching to keep going, expressing myself to my best ability! But I think a little break is in order. Thank you so much if you have read up to here! Have a great rest of your holiday, and I'll catch you in 2024!
