Veilguard spoilers*

Honestly I tried to be as positive about veilguard as I could. I mean it’s dragon age how could I not be excited? But after hearing about them removing the keep I just got concerned and my concern was validated.

They took away everything that made dragon age seem special and made it seem like it was better that way. All the talk about how improved it was and how they’ve never had such complex characters?

Honestly the characters were one of the most disappointing parts for me. There was truly nothing special about them. It was so light hearted and simple, nothing like dragon age at all. The banter was boring and it was like they were afraid to make anything outrageous. It had no personality.

Even without a personal quest, Zevran was much more complex than any of the veilguard characters combined. I missed the character building through banter and dialogue.

And I don’t like how they handled the lore. Could be a hot take. I would’ve preferred the blight to be some sort of mystery that would never be answered. Like how I don’t expect to ever learn the truth about andraste or the maker.

And also how they handled the antivan crows! What the hell? Why did they act like they were some sort of family. Perhaps it’s different for all crows but it lacked the brutality that Zevran had. They are assassins! Zevran acknowledges that what he does is wrong, to an extent.

And minrathous? After hearing so much over the series about how awful it is, we barely saw its dark side. Sure some of the side quests were messed up. But not to the extent that has been described.

Somehow my favourite aspect was the combat and character creator which is pretty ironic for the series. And bryony corrigan did an amazing job as rook. The game is beautiful and has amazing art.

I don’t like the outfits I feel like they tried too hard to make them look creative but they ended up being ugly. I hate all the themed colours that just ended up making the characters look bad.

I just feel like it was some sort of mock of dragon age. Not the real thing. It didn’t have the heart. I’m so disappointed but also just tells me that maybe it should just be put to rest. As much as I’d love to learn more about the world and lore and have more experiences, if it’s going to be like that then I don’t want it. It’s not worth it.

I don’t want to have to force myself to get through it.

Perhaps I am over exaggerating. Maybe it wasn’t that bad. But as someone who had high expectations and was super excited I can’t help but be disappointed.

It always seemed to me that the first night after the finale of "Trespasser" Lavellan and Solas would cry. Everyone has their own reasons, but... it's sad 😭

Something something the reason Varric struggles to see the inquisitior as a person (repeatedly calling them a symbol and expressing how it's hard to remember that they're not at both the end of the wicked grace scene and in one of his own one on one scenes) is actually not about The Inquisitor or What They Are To The People or The Singing at all.

But it is an internalised coping method for himself so that he doesn't get super attached and burnt just like he did with the da2 gang. I mean. Look no further to how Sera calls him out on this one.

Like it's kinda crazy the roles Varric fulfills in DAI all the way to WARNING LOVE INTERESTS THE INQUISITOR IS A BAD IDEA just like Wynne does in dao. He's literally so damaged and the ghosts of Kirkwall follow him everywhere and he's SO aware of what it means to follow a hero and let yourself care about them and their friends.
