the thing about skeletá is it feels and sounds so fucking cold and metallic. the guitar and bass tones. the thunderous drums. the piano and the added synth.

the album sounds like the album artwork should. so fucking sick.

copia came to us furious. we watched him rise and break and bloom. his reign was built on pride and righteous anger and the need to prove himself to a world that had never cared enough to look. his faith felt hard-earned. a shield. a survival tactic. defensive. throwing fists while begging not to be left behind.

with v, there's none of that. he doesn't have the resentment of a person who had to fight to be seen, but rather the tentative longing of someone who never had anyone to really see him in the first place. if copia was the boy thrown into the river to sink or swim, v is the boy watching from the river bank, wide-eyed and wondering what it might be like to drown. you see it in the way they hold the stage. copia always danced like he had something to prove; like every step might be his last if he didn't make you love him, and so watching him felt like being dared to believe in him. v moves as though someone told him he was meant for great things but forgot to show him how. his faith is solid but spills out clumsy and earnest, and you can almost hear the question creeping behind his grin: "will you love me, too?"

there's a shyness to him that copia never had despite his insecurities. copia was shoved into existence. v was invited. copia carried the weight of being almost good enough… of being someone's son but nobody's favourite and aching to be more than what they decided he could be. but v holds no bitterness. there's no broken glass inside him to spit out. they share a loneliness, and they both bear the bruises of their respective neglect, but where copia's thrashed and clawed and demanded a seat at the table, v's is quiet. it's stitched into his being and soft around the edges like it's just another part of him. for v, it's not a question of survival but of acceptance. of playing the cards you're dealt but knowing there is always space for change. and maybe that's the heart of it. copia learned to fight. v learned to hope.

it's funny how the line of succession goes. louder, harder, angrier, and then suddenly, quieter, as if the church itself has finally exhaled.

he's so much softer, isn't he. do you remember prequelle? the anger, the justified rage and vindication that defined copia from the moment we met him; the first thing we knew about him was that he was mistreated, he was an outsider, and he was finally getting the appreciation he deserved. but perpetua? he doesn't have that edge. skeletá is all love and joy and gentle mystery, this sense of him taking his first steps in the limelight, much more nervous than he is proud. it gives you this image that where copia was raised in overwhelming noise, perpetua was raised in silence. a child of the clergy, and a child sent far away from the clergy. who raised him? who spoke these lessons into him, who taught him how to worship? it must've been someone kind, but distant. with the way he speaks about his faith, he was taught to love satan on a personal level.

copia being a clergy kid, raised deep inside this community, inside the church, gives me the general image of a child raised by a village; he knows everyone's name, he's used to constant noise, he runs around with important papers in his hands and dodges the young ghouls chasing each other through the halls.

but perpetua gives me the image of a child raised in the woods. a quiet, faraway mansion somewhere, with no other kids his age around. empty corridors that he'd explore on his own, tall portraits of antisaints that he'd pray to every night before going to bed. he was never roughed up by his peers the way copia was, he never learned to resent or to covet what others had. all he has in his heart now is fear and love, and that's what he walks out onto the stage with. he's eager. he's nervous. he's so much softer, isn't he.
