I have so much shit to talk about the man who raised me, I can forgive the fact that he's trying to do good for the world, but there are just some things that erk me a lot about Rick Riordan and the legacy he stands for.

Is he as bad as JK Rowling? No, not by a mile. His clumsily executed writing about race, gender, and sexuality packed enough "You're valid" for me to eternally be grateful for the existence of his stories for the good their existence in school library's can do for kids like younger me. That "JK Riordan" comment was in reference to a blog post he made where he said Percy Jackson is Straight, which had the same energy as JK declaring Dumbledore gay despite what's in cannon. Can't currently find the original blog post, but I found a reddit thread of people confirming it happened. To Rick's credit, he's also stated that the only true cannon is what's in the books and that readers are allowed to interpret that as they wish, but the vibes were similar to eachother is the main point I was aiming to draw. I'm not mad he's straight, I just think that's really funny.

The other shit feels petty to complain about, but I do feel it's worth being mentioned as an actual reason to dislike the man. Staying neutral on the Palestinian Genocide because Disney signs your checks. I don't believe one can be neutral about the deaths of innocent people without being a little evil. To publicly state such a stance perpetuates inaction towards Palestinians, I believe. Maybe there is a two state solution, but he has never publicly condemned Israel's war crimes (I mean, he never condemned the God's either, so idk why I'm really shocked. The moral to his story can be read as "Yeah, the world suck, innocent children die because of our shitty systems but lol new God's? Don't try to be a hero or a blonde man. You die faster.")I can't help wondering if the cost of my entertainment is coming at the cost of human lives because I know it is, and that sucks but not as much as living through actually war where your small native community is being attacked by an army backed by the biggest global superpowers and histories biggest colonizers.

On that note, and this is actually petty comparitivly, casting the Black haired, green eyed, OLIVE SKINNED protagonists of your story as a blond haired blue eyed white guy just FEELS LIKE WHITE WASHING! He's from a part of New York that's known to have a high Latino and Asian demographic, I know he's never stated to be any race... but that stings. It's not Rick's choice exclusively probably and I'm sure the best actor for the role got the job (DO NOT BULLY THE CASTS OF TV SHOWS BECAUSE THEY DON'T LOOK THE WAY YOU WANT! LOOKING AT YOU LEAH HATERS YOU RACIST MOTHER FUCKERS DON'T KNOW THE PAIN I'VE GONE THROUGH AND NEVER ONCE DID I THINK "I'm gonna bully Walker Scobel about it")I blame Disney's oversight because Hollywood loves casting white actors as the leads of stories when the evidence in the source material points in every other direction. At the very least, the race blind casting for the rest of the cast at least gives POC actors opportunities to work. Mildly salty that the desi guy (I'm Desi) got the Disney famous "POC folk as animals/ transformed into animals/ not entirely human" treatment but Grover Underwood is indeed The Goat so I'll count my blessings about it. Walker and Aryan could have switched roles, and frankly, I think the story would be the same if not better for it.

Petty shit: he's really bad at writing POC characters. I've heard complaints from basically every demographic he's represented that he relies too much on stereotypes when depicting other cultures in an attempt to be inclusive (you really didn't need to make Sam marry her cousin to show you support Muslim culture. That feels gross for so many reasons. Fuck it this story is ripe with incest by nature might as well at that point, I guess.)

If he's my uncle, he's my weird dierogitory uncle, but at least he's not my transphobic aunt... could really do without some shit though.

Damn I've not gotten any less over-zealous about my enjoyment of this paring in the last year.

Omg I forgot about the burial shroud thing. I know Percy was intending to honor him, but I feel like Luke's ghost was screaming about daddy issues in that moment. They say soul mates aren't nessasaraly romantic in nature as pop culture often portrays. More often than not, the fates send you soul mates to help you grow and evolve. While we see how Percy changes from knowing Luke, I can't help wishing we could have seen it from the other side, hypothetically. Especially how the show and musical depict the dynamic with the literary parallels on full display. Would be cool to see.

This paring just feels like the definition of "the gods had to make us enemies because we would have won if we worked together." Kronos’s biggest mistake was not involving Annabeth in his evil plotting because if he secured that girl, this would actually be the story of a revolution. Percy would listen to her, and with the smartest demigod alive, the most powerful, and the most charismatic, the war would be the Olympians cowering in fear begging for Kaos's mercy.

I don't think "shipper" really captures the reality of the situation. I'm a Lukercy truther. These two characters were connected by faith, doomed by the narrative, living in another Greek tragedy, and the greatest tragedy is Rick Riordan declaring Percy Jackson canonical straight via Twitter (Rick's been acting very JK Riordan lately anyway so he's been death of the authored by defult. boycott Disney. you know why.)

Lemmi be clear, you don't need to actively like the ship to be a Lukercy Truther (you can, it helps) but you do need to see how cannon heavily implies that there dynamic is anything but a surface level friends to enemies plot line. Could also be platonic. Could also be queer platonic. It's not about them being a good couple. They can also be toxic, but they're soulmates, and as a Lukercy truther, my job is to share that truth with the world. To be clear, this has evolved past a standard obsession into religion like devotion. Do I advise following my path? No, but if you do, I wish you luck as a fellow humble servant of the good word.

time loop au where percy has to keep seeing Luke kill himself to defeat Kronos and for a while it seems like nothing can change destiny. Than Percy goes, "screw it" and tells Luke he loves him. Let's Luke beat him up as Kronos and tells Luke that he loves him and that he's better than this. Percy uses the power of love to burn out Kronos from Luke's body like trying to get posion out of a wound. And he saves Luke.

I'd read that. My only thought is that it reminds me of this scene

Additional thought is that the way that was worded that made me think that Percy saying "I love you" wouldn't be enough to fully snap Luke out of it. So then I was like "well what would?" And the answer hit me imminently after as "oh Percy calling Luke his friend." I love the Power of Love Trope to no end, but the Power of Friendship hits different.

Basically a group of aliens started a civil war on their home planet cybertron. The civil war is between the autobots and the decepticons. The war got so bad that it somehow destroyed their planet and transformers had to take refugee and hide in disguise on planet earth( why they can switch from robot form to human things like cars, planes and just any machine). Eventually a certain human finds out about the autobots and helps them and decepticons try to take over the earth and enslave humans. It's just always Decepticons trying to do something evil, autobots stop them. And very rarely autobots and decepticons work together when something even worse tries to take over the world.

Bet. Also, I didn't realize this until now, but Trans-formers (Happy trans visibility day. The one day a year transgender people are able to be veiwed with the human eye, such a rare phenomenon wow)

Anyway, it seems like a fun time, so I'll try to find the movies and get back to you with my thoughts.

Having basically little to no understanding of the source material I'm just imaging Luke digging around a junkyard till he find an old jetski, think to himself "oh sweet" tries taking it out onto the water and it transforms into a cute guy shaped thing. Reverse Bella Edward vibes, too, since I imagine horizontal tangoing with an alien robot might be a tad awkward... That sounds interesting, though.

Me wanting to info dump you about my love for interspecies romance: Transformers au where percy is a Transformer and Luke is the one who finds him. Maybe Luke works at a junkyard and sells car parts as a way to help take care of his mentally ill mother and his friends/foster sisters Annabeth and Thalia. Basically Percy is a transformer that can transform into a motor boat or maybe a jetski.

Oh, that sounds cool. I haven't seen any of the Transformer's franchise, but I do like cool robots, so that sounds intriguing. Luke Castellan on a jetski sounds cool. I have no idea how this lore works, so feel free to inform me about it, but I also like the idea of Percy being the Princess Andromeda the boat. Maybe like the Yat Luke had in the movie. Again, I have no idea how the transformers lore works, but I assume the logistics of him being a Disney Cruise Liner might be hard but that would be cool (please please please creative team on the PJO show do my favorite fictional boat justice🙏🏼)

(Quickly looked up Transformers on YouTube because I knew there was something about this franchise I did know. Luke Castellan is a Linkin Park fan, especially post TLT. No idea what the implications of "What I've Done" being in a franchise about giant mechs fighting each other, but knowing it's there makes me very intrigued about these movies.)

I haven't seen a lot of movies that aren't a part of the Disney catalog tbh. Mine was Aladdin. Theif with a heart of gold is my only backing as to why I think he'd like it too.

I also headcannon that May Castellan is a physical media supremacist, so Luke Castellan is watching a bunch of old black and white TV and movies. I haven't seen as many as I'd like to, but at least book Luke would like Gentleman Prefer Blondes.

I live in a blue state. I'm fineeeee...probably. that being said, working on getting my passport made just in case, and steadily convincing myself that I can totally start taking testosterone without my parents noticing if I just keep my beard in check. Truly though I could be in a way worse position, that being said, remember that the people in power have repeatedly proven that they are really fucking dumb and there policies take time to inact, which gives we the people time to plan escape routes if needed, and civil pushback against the shit we really can't stand (picked up a book for class that Luke Castellan fucking needed. The line that got me to keep reading was along the lines of "preforming your civic duties can be a form of self care" and that felt validating to the kid in me who was nievly excited to vote when they turned 18... only to have to choose between genocide+higher gas prices vs genocide+loosing your rights back home when they turned 21... idk, but the book's called "Democracy in Retrograde" by Sami Sage & Emily Amick) Hope You’re OK is in my top 5 favorite Olivia Rodrigo songs for reasons, that shit makes me think about simple admiration and good people and crying which I usually need to do if I'm listening to her. I'm ok and safe, and I hope the same for you, but I understand spiraling.
