I’m genuinely near hysterical over Jack Wolfe Orpheus and I’m not even going to see it

Do you think Jack Wolfe wanted to play Orpheus so he could just wear a little neckerchief all the time

there's something so outrageously poetic about the crows saying “no mourners, no funerals.” instead of “good luck.” when actually the statement could not be any further from the truth.
because yes, maybe they are a gang of wayward nobodies. maybe they would not be grieved by way of gold caskets or weeping crowds. but god how they would grieve eachother.
they've fought side by side, bled together, laughed together, schemed and thieved together. they would mourn eachother like a family mourns each other.
they think they're bound together by their insignificance, by their wrecked backgrounds and losses, by the fact they would have no mourners, and no funerals. but they’re bound together by the fact that no matter the job, the fight, the reward, if one were to fall the others would mourn them. because they ARE a family. they are eachother's mourners.

something so true to life about how in many ways gabe is often the most honest character throughout the show, although of course there are many situations where he's not because he effectively functions both as an in-text hallucination from diana's mental illness that triggers her suicidal ideation to the point of pushing her into an attempt and a symbol of grief personified so as to play with and dissect what it means to '''interact''' with grief so to speak (diana unable to let grief go, dan blocking grief out and refusing to acknowledge it, natalie living in the shadow of grief and occasionally feeling the direct effect of its impact on her parents in her own life)
it just makes so much sense to me to write the lines of the character who is symbolic of a raw emotion to be just that—raw, unflinching, honest because there's no reason left to lie or obfuscate or bluff. the worst has happened. gabe is the personification of the worst that could happen to them. of course his entire song is just telling the audience the brutal truth of it, that grief is inescapable, hungry, destructive, but the only way to survive it is to let it in. that's what grief is. the path itself appears simple, it's the walking down it that breaks you.
#i love when characters are just kind of insane plot devices to push everyone else to their limits and beyond#i love when characters haunt the narrative such that they make the narrative fucking unbearable unless something truly revolutionary occurs#i love when characters force everyone else to get their shit together by being FUCKING awful#<< prev tags#next to normal

trying to convince my mom to let me buy tickets for hadestown and take a trip to new york...it's not going very well
#i have a perfect plan in my head but i don't think it's going to work ☹️#sighs maybe i just stick to convincing her to drive 1 hour for regional productions instead of flying multiple hours
