While we can all agree Queen of the Damned the film is a terrible movie, there are several things I utterly adore about it:
There is such a campy quality to the movie
Aaliyah's performance as Akasha. 10/10. No notes
Marius. He is so very much not the Marius of the books but he's also just... fun
The implied David/Marius ship
Akasha's death scene
That moment when Lestat gives an interview on the big screen. Canon Lestat absolutely would
Things I did not like:
Lestat being straightwashed
There was not enough Akasha
How utterly 2000's a lot of the editing choices were
Did not lean into the buckwildness of the books enough
A criminal underutilisation of their vampire characters
Lestat was too straight
#queen of the damned film#the vampire chronicles#this movie is quite fun to watch and snark about#but it is definitely a bad movie#i loved it as a teenager#but i also thought stuart townsend was hot back then#for the version of lestat they went with he was good#but he was not lestat#i read the queen of the damned book after watching the movie#the book is fucking wild compared to the movie

Claudia is such a great character across so many iterations of Interview, but how they chose to portray her in the television show is the best by far. Her tragedy is so much more poignant and heart breaking. It also gives Claudia so much more agency than she had in the books and the 1994 film. You want her to live so she can finally be first for someone and have time with her love.
#interview with the vampire#iwtv#amc interview with the vampire#amc iwtv#claudia#claudia iwtv#the one thing i wish we'd get is a surname for claudia#just rewatched the trial scene in s2#still brought me to tears#justice for claudia

So I've been thinking about these two because I've been slowly working on a fic.
Nobody asked for this, but here are some Brandon/Elia headcanons:
Brandon tries to grow an orange tree or some kind of citrus in the greenhouses
Elia embraces wearing furs because it's so bloody cold but keeps aspects of Dornish dress to remind her of home
Lots of bright colours and veils to keep her warm
Brandon and Elia spend quite a bit of time alone in their chambers, they say to help the Princess keep warm
They visit Dorne at least once a year, while also inviting Oberyn and the girls to visit
Brandon adores Rhaenys and Aegon and raises them as his own
Elia sits in on meetings with Brandon and his advisors when he becomes Lord of Winterfell
Elia does her best to learn the ways of the North

something something people forget misogyny exists. it’s not that class privilege doesn’t exist - in fact it is a driving force of asoiaf’s narrative - but women like cersei, dany, arianne, etc are terrified of being remarried bc being considered the property of your husband just sucks. cersei & dany show us that this role makes you vulnerable to a rather extreme version of ipv where you have no recourse, no way to protect yourself. catelyn shows us this leash is only so long as your husband lets it be. yes, it cannot be overstated that sansa and lysa experience a class privilege where they don’t have to wonder where their next meal is coming from, whether they’ll have a roof over their head, and this allows them the ability to plot to escape the situations they’ve been forced into. BUT. dany wears those golden collars as she gets married! the point is, your freedom goes only so far as your husband allows. and if you only have a life on someone else’s terms…is that a life???

Random Finale Thoughts
Needed more Moira and Rita. Just in general.
Was... was there hints of Moira/Rita in the karaoke scene? Or was I seeing things?
The karaoke scene was delightful! I loved how all the handmaids and Rita were just having fun together. And we got to see Alma and Brianna again.
I adored the Emily return. I love how they did it. There were so many great little call backs to the first episode and how Emily and June first met. The scene where they walked by the Wall and we saw the spontaneous graffiti memorial was incredible!
Luke's growth over the season and the way his relationship with June has changed has been wonderful to see. His whole little speech about why June should write down her story and how everyone deserved to be remembered was wonderful.
Tuello being a Commander? I dunno how I feel about that. I did chuckle though. He's the One Good Commander.
June deciding to continue to fight against Gilead is very fitting. That whole scene with her mum was so wonderful.
Janine! Janine! Janine finally got a fucking break!
Lydia still having a position in the Gilead power structure does make sense and work. All the Commanders are dead. She knows how to play to the egos of godless men. She's devious.
I think Naomi did learn something from living with Lawrence. Either that or Lydia just bullied her into letting Janine get her daughter back.
Upon reflection, I suspect June only told Serena she forgave her for Serena's sake.
I wouldn't call Serena's fate the culmination of a redemption arc. She's going to be stateless for the rest of her life, or at the very least she's going to have a hard time being anything other than a refugee.
That said if you ship Serena/Tuello? I suspect there's going to be a lot of fics about the "I'll find you" moment.
The final scenes where June goes into the old house and goes back to her old room were great. No notes.
When she starts saying the opening narration of the first episode? Oh that was great. This is how she creates the tapes, this shows the voice overs as June getting down her story. The creation of The Handmaid's Tale document.
I can see why some people were disappointed by the episode, but on the whole I quite enjoyed it.
Good finale. Handful of notes.

I get the feeling "Mommies always come back" and "I'll find you" are going to haunt the Testaments.
Or at least they'll be haunting me during the Testaments

So I was so wrong with a lot of these predictions xD
Nick and Lawrence did end up dead, just not in an execution crack down.
Serena lived and got forgiven by June in a very touching scene. Like, holy shit, I was expecting Serena to die.
I was kind of right about Aunt Lydia's radicalisation moment, although now we get to add the events during the fall of Boston to it. I liked how they handled her turn from pro-Gilead to pro-Mayday and it fit the way her character was portrayed in the show. I'm genuinely curious to see how she continues in the Testaments.
My one win was Janine and Charlotte getting to live together. I am so, so, so, so happy she got to get her daughter back. Naomi Lawrence growing as a character? Did not expect that.
Am I disappointed we didn't get the flash forward to the Gilead Studies conference? Yes. But would I sacrifice that final shot for it? Hell no! So good.
Predictions for the last three episodes of the Handmaid's Tale:
The wedding plan goes off without much of a hitch
A whole bunch of Commanders are killed
Wharton lives, but he's severely injured
Serena looks to survive but dies after. She has a Moment with June that is bittersweet but does not give either woman closure
Rose dies, Wharton goes off the deep end
Janine kills Commander Bell
Lawrence returns to Gilead and is executed in a crack down
New Bethlehem is abolished
Nick is also caught up in the crack down and executed
June is believed dead
Moira, Janine and Rita survive
Lydia survives and the Jezebels massacre combined with Janine's actions are her "radicalisation" moment that puts her on the road to being Testaments!Lydia
Angela/Charlotte.... I hope she ends up living with Janine, but I get the feeling she'll be part of the Testaments crew somehow
The final episode will include the flash forward to the Gilead Studies conference. We'll see how "history" remembers the events we witnessed over the past six seasons and how Gilead itself will have shaped the narrative of what is remembered. At the end their is a stinger about a new testimonial document that has been uncovered and how it will be discussed at the next conference.
#the handmaids tale spoilers#also i am deeply impressed by luke this season#i've really grown to love him as a character#i side eyed the “he would have chosen you if he felt he had a choice”#but it doesn't annoy me too much

SPOILERS THE HANDMAID'S TALE 06x09
"She told me to give this all up. She did. Many times"
"You should have listened to her"
This.
This has been the big thing about Nick. Yeah he loved June and did so much to protect her and save her life. But he never tried to give up the benefits he'd earned through Gilead to be with June.
