Okay, I've been trying for two days to ignore all the feelings 6.07 brought up for me, but you all made it kind of impossible with all the edits and GIFs🥲
So here I am, trying to put all the thoughts that have been nagging me out there, hoping that it'll take away some of my pain and if not, it'll make people who believe Maya is just a shitty abusive human being realize how wrong that is.
So, let's start.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first thing Maya says when she wakes up? She asks where Carina is, she asks for her wife.
I've seen many people commenting that Maya was looking for her because she probably just wanted to get out of there asap, but I don't think it's about that at all.
Take one second, one moment, to look at her.
She just woke up, she's puzzled, she slowly takes in her surrounding, trying to gather her thoughts, to understand what may be going on, until you see a shift behind her eyes.
Teddy talks to her, Jack is there too, she knows she's at Grey Sloan, and that befuddled look turns into a conscious looking for something, or rather someone.
She woke up, in the hospital where her wife works, and Carina is not there.
Maya's not plotting her elopement right now, she just needs her wife, she needs her and to see that Carina's not there has probably sent her on a spiraling of her own.
I might be wrong, obviously, this is just my opinion, but the second scene gives us a lot to think about.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As soon as Jack tells her about Maya, Carina runs to her, terrified.
That "hey", the same exact thing she told her brother when she entered his room after his surgery, might be a coincidence (probably is) but it still gives us an insight on how triggering this can be for Carina, who flies to Maya's side but not without throwing a glance at her stats first.
Carina is understandably worried, but so is Maya.
The slew of sorrys she blurts out speak on its own: she knows her getting hurt is probably one of Carina's worst fears, if not her worst one, and I strongly believe that not seeing her before, as soon as she woke up, had instilled in her the idea that Carina might have been so angry with her that she had left her there, not even daring to come see her.
It's wrong, we know Carina wouldn't leave Maya like that, but in that moment Maya doesn't.
Carina is not Lane, but Maya is too stuck in her head to remember that, and she's terrified.
She's so terrified that the exact moment her wife is by her side, she clings to her with everything she has. And right there, that's Maya needing her wife, wanting her close.
She knows she needs her, she knows it's bad, Carina doesn't yet, but Maya is aware what happened in order for her to fall.
She simply can't bring herself to accept that, so she denies it.
And that's when she asks Carina to be discharged.
The tone of her voice, her eyes... she's trying to talk Carina into this: she's not manipulative, she's just trying to get things to go her way, as we all do.
And Carina is starting to get a bigger image of the situation, but there are still some pieces left to the puzzle.
And it's shown perfectly in the scene right after that one.
Tumblr media
When Maya brings up wanting to be discharged again, Carina's answer shows us that she still doesn't have a full picture of all this.
"You've been doing too much", she says but the problem is that it's worse than that. It's way worse.
Maya didn't just "do too much": she's being reckless, putting her life at risk in more than one occasion, overexerting herself even when she knows she's in pain (like the treadmill scene, which has so many meanings), but Carina doesn't know that and she doesn't realise it either.
She jokes about it, she brings up Maya's Olympics and her bragging, something Maya always did to show how good she was at embracing the pain, at overcoming it.
She always used it as a demonstration of her stubbornness and her willpower, and by using it as an example, we know that it's what Carina thinks this is about too: Maya being stubborn.
It's when Maya says that she needs to get back to work, because there was a call and she was supposed to help her team that something starts to feel wrong.
"I need to get back to work" Maya's voice is shaking, the walls are cracking again.
"I'm fine" she insists when Carina disagrees, shaking her head, her voice trembling again, but we can see that she's trying so hard not to break down, and when Carina brings up "the help" Maya needs, the walls fly back up.
She feels constricted, having no control, and in one of her most vulnerable moments, Carina brings up the thing she's been avoiding for months now, and as a consequence, she feels attacked.
So Maya snaps, her defenses shutting Carina out once again.
Tumblr media
Maya snaps and Carina flinches, abruptly getting up.
As triggering as this moment is for her, considering her past with her father or at least, the little we can assume for what we saw and heard here and there mostly on Grey's, we can see realisation dawning on her.
The puzzle is not complete, but another piece has just fallen into her hands.
The look on her face (I can't stress enough how fucking amazing Stefania's acting is, every single time) speaks volume once again.
Maya is not herself.
She's not scared of her wife, but she's terrified of where her Maya has gone, and how far that distance has now grown, irreparably.
It's not the first time Maya snapped at her in the last period, but never, ever like this, not even on the rooftop scene.
She's starting to understand that no matter what she does, the help Maya needs is way bigger than the capacity of what she can do for her.
It's not until she talks with Jack that the puzzle is complete.
Tumblr media
Watching it for the first time live, kinda got me angry, because I could tell Carina was processing, slowly making a decision, and I hated how Jack was apparently making it about him, but I have to thank some people on twitter who shared their thoughts and made me see it slightly differently.
So, while I would still have probably made him ask her how she felt, or how it went, something that Carina probably wouldn't have even needed to answer to, ( I'm telling you a sigh would have been more than enough, explicative in itself considering the situation), I believe this scene was a turning point.
Carina realized Maya wasn't just being stubborn.
At first, I was surprised at how Jack was so straightforward, angry at his lack of delicacy, considering how Carina already lost many people she loved , especially her brother, but after many, many rewatches, I came to realize that it was probably the aim of the whole thing.
To draw a parallel, at least in Carina's head, something stirring through her traumas and forcing her to make a decision, more drastic than everything she had considered so far.
A decision Maya feels betrayed by.
Tumblr media
Maya was hoping to be discharged, but teddy and Carina tell her she's basically being 5150ed.
Now, for all the people that like me aren't too familiar with US laws, 5150 is a law code for a temporary, involuntary, psychiatric commitment for people who present a mental illness that leads them to be a danger to themselves, being considered unstable.
And while it doesn't excuse AT ALL Maya's behaviour, or bringing up Andrew's death, it EXPLAINS why she would feel that way.
Maya's not okay and we can see that very clearly, but she doesn't want to admit it.
"let me go home, we can figure this out" and then "you can help me, at home".
That pause between "you can help me" and "at home"? A whole line. (Danielle's acting as well...a masterpiece)
Her voice breaks again, and what I love about this part is the rollercoaster we go through as she expresses her emotions.
She's terrified, she's so afraid and tears are pricking at her eyes, but as soon as she feels that fear getting too loud, she tries to overshadow it with anger.
She felt like she had no control as she lay in that bed, and the 5150 took away the last bit of it she thought she still had.
She's a loose cannon now and Carina's standing right in her trajectory.
So she brings up Andrew.
His death and Carina's need for space, which was a whole different story, to Maya right now it isn't.
In a conlicting way, I'm convinced she didn't bring it up to hurt Carina.
She doesn't want to hurt her or to reopen her wounds even if that's what happens (I'll talk about it in a sec) : it's her twisted way to tell Carina what she needs, that she needs love and support, but that she doesn't feel it.
In a very twisted way, it's Maya letting out what we already knew she feared: that Carina wasn't on her side anymore, or worse, she no longer loved her as before.
Is it devastatingly painful? Without a doubt.
Even more knowing that it was exactly what Carina was doing in that moment: loving her beyond herself.
Carina has tried to help Maya, and she wouldn't let her in, but now that Maya is saying that she "can help her", Carina knows it wouldn't be enough.
And she knows that probably Maya wouldn't listen either, not when she's having psychotic breakdown, being convinced that she's fine, perfectly fit to go back to work.
That's why the 5150.
What Maya think is them taking control away from her, it's Carina doing everything in her power to protect her, taking over the control Maya has long lost.
When Maya brings up Andrew, we can see her face twist in pain, the memory and the accusation too raw to leave her unaffected.
But what Maya doesn't know is that she is Andrew, right now, but we, from outside, can see the similarities perfectly, even in their struggles.
So, when she sees Carina walking away, she panics.
"If you walk out that door, we're done."
It's supposed to be a threat, but Maya's voice betrays her.
She chokes on her words, on her tears, cracking up once again, letting us see how terrified she is.
But she doesn't want that, so she repeats that statement, her tone now angrier, but not in the slightest less scared.
And then Carina's words, the love behind them hitting like an uncontrollable force, crash against Maya's walls, destroying everything they find.
"I lose you either way, Bella. I'd rather lose you and have you be alive".
That is the most selfless act of love Carina could do in that moment.
Leaving Maya shatters her, Maya is her home and she's watching her collapse, but she knows that her arms aren't strong enough to put the pieces back together right now.
Maya needs help and Carina does too.
And by walking away, Carina is making sure that Maya isn't Andrew.
We know it's not, but she's probably still convinced it was her fault, that by letting him on that train, she failed him.
By believing that she could help him, that if she was there he would be okay, she probably thinks that she was delusional.
And what happened is that Andrew died.
He died and Carina is afraid that by doing the same with Maya, by being sure that she could make it work, that she could fix it, things would have inevitably ended the same.
So she walks out of the room.
She doesn't walk out on their marriage, or on Maya: she's taking a step back to let Maya realize that the help she needs right now is a work she needs to do herself.
She's also setting a boundary, something that she knows she needs to keep her own trauma at bay.
But Maya's screams are probably more haunting than any of the ghosts from her past.
Tumblr media
I honestly can't choose what was the most painful thing to hear.
When Maya threw that threat at Carina, she was sure, so sure that she would have stayed that when Carina "left", she shattered, with no restraint. (Except from teddy's arms, lol)
The trembling, pleading, repeated "Carina", the "I can't -", with the hand grabbing at her neck, her strangled voice as she chokes on her own screams and tears, on the verge of a panic attack as we hear her monitor beeping uncontrollably.
The "how could you", screamed with such a raw pain that you have to listen to it more than once to actually catch all the nuances behind it.
She's screaming, crying, breaking down because Carina has left.
I honestly have a hard time believing how every person that has watched this scene, even just once, can think that Maya doesn't love her, or that she doesn't deserve her.
She's crumbling, piece after piece, cracking as the pain excruciatingly overflows out of her lungs, and people still have the courage to say she's mean, abusive and undeserving of love.
And I'm glad Carina proves you all wrong.
Because she stays.
Maya doesn't see her, and she could run, she could run away from Maya's gut wrenching screams, but she stays there, crying with her, as shattered as her.
And then she covers her ears.
And although it was an incredibly intelligent improvisation, it's not casual.
She covers her ears when Maya chokes out a "Get back here", because she can't deal with all this pain, she can't bear it, and hearing Maya asking for her to come back, agonizing, would probably be enough to make her walk back inside.
Tumblr media
And now that Carina is no longer there, we can see that Maya's more lost than ever, hollow, nothing but a shell of a person.
But ironically enough, this gives me hope.
It gives me hope because we all know the extent of the issue now, everyone has caught up, or at least Carina has and Maya did too.
For how painful and emotionally heavy it was to witness, I'm positive that Carina walking away is the first step that needed to be taken to be able to walk towards change, and eventually, the light.
Now if you've made it so far, I'm honestly so sorry for you lol, but I really needed to get it off of my chest or it would have haunted me the same way Maya's screams have been replaying in my head🙃
This is my silly, personal opinion, nothing more: I don't want neither to impose my thoughts on others nor to tell you how to feel about stuff, and I'd love if this starts a conversation.
But there's one thing I'm gonna ask you, something I can no longer stand: stop hating on Maya.
By writing this post, I strongly hope you were able to understand why everything is happening, why she's reacting like that; I hope it gave you a new insight.
So stop with the mean comments, cause words won't hurt her (it's sad, I know, but she's a fictional character), but they will hurt people who read them and struggle with the same issues.
I'm usually not fazed by this stuff, let alone if said by people I don't know, but I can tell you that reading some of your comments, the lack of empathy and coherence of thought of some people had me feeling very discouraged.
I'm not telling you to love Maya, nor to like her.
I'm not telling you to excuse her behaviours.
I'm telling you to try and understand.
And if that's too hard for you, if you tried but you can't empathize with someone struggling with their mental issues, I'm kindly asking you not to choose hate, and trust me: your silence is way more respectful than your words.
It's as simple as that.

distracted, robin x you
Tumblr media
day thirty-one of drabble july! today's words: shop, miracle
last day is here and i actually can't believe i've made it to the end. i've had fun and i'm so grateful for all the support! i was supposed to have like a big special finale or sm but school got in the way, as always, but it should be up in a couple of days (weeks, months... same thing)
Observing from the window of the coffee shop is always the highlight of your day.
At some point, you catch sight of –no kidding– the most beautiful girl you’ve ever seen. By miracle, she sees you too and you lock eyes.
Suddenly she’s too distracted to look up to where she's walking to and you're too distracted to warn her about the street sign on her way. She ends up crashing with it, face first.
You leave the shop and your coffee behind, on your way to help.
And maybe giving her your number or offering to kiss it better.

day thirty of drabble july! today's words: physics, paper
The longer Mrs Stevens talked the more you were sure physics was just a sick joke to mess with your head and your grades.
You try to understand something— anything at all, but you're quickly distracted by a hand invading your desk and leaving a paper behind. It says:
would you be my girlfriend?
☐ yes <3
☐ yes ;)
You roll your eyes, fondly, and sneak a glance of Robin, who's still at your side, trying her best not to laugh. You write back:
would you be my girlfriend?
☐ yes <3
☐ yes ;)
☒ we're already dating, you dumbass

wrong, robin x you
Tumblr media
day twenty-nine of drabble july! today's words: boyfriend, bright
It’s wrong and you know that. Your eyes shouldn't automatically scan the room for a glimpse of soft freckles and ocean brightfull eyes.
It's wrong how your chest aches with anger and your eyebrows draw together when you see her talking to that redhead again.
They’re getting closer.
It’s wrong how she makes you feel things. Things your boyfriend, right next to you, could never make you feel.
But then again, maybe the only wrong thing is the person by your side?
You shake your head, scaring those thoughts away. It doesn’t even matter if it’s wrong.
It's safer.

i want them all, robin x you (finale!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Can I go where you go?
Can we always be this close forever and ever?
And ah, take me out, and take me home
You're my, my, my, my
Lover”
so this is it </3 im actually sad this is ending
im always open to more requests! school is starting again so they might take a while, but im running out of good ideas so any bit of inspiration will be deeply appreciated
hope yall like this ending, its a bit delusional, but i warned you since the beggining, this is just plotless fluff
part 4 here!
People usually hate the days before Christmas, right? The planning, the early cooking, the empty stores and the upgoing prices. It’s like you had a million things to do, and, at the same time, were only able to wait. So December 23th was hardly the best day of any of your years.
But, 1987 turned out to be the clear exception.
Flying during the holidays was a bad idea. A really bad idea. But if the person you’re renting the apartment you're planning to stay on says she has an opening December 24th then you take it. No matter how chaotic or expensive. More if that person is your long lost aunt, who’s doing it practically for free. If that’s the case then you cry of happiness and promise to buy her a really nice gift.
And that’s why Robin and you —and both your parents, Steve, Nancy and Jonathan and even Mr Hauser— are in the middle of an airport on the busiest day of the year. December 23th.
It still feels like a dream. Like at any moment your alarm clock is gonna run off and you’re gonna realize nothing of this is really happening. You’re not holding a bag almost as big as you in your hands, your Mom is not hugging you goodbye, crying her eyeballs out and you’re not about to accomplish one of your dreams with the love of your life by your side. There was no way.
“And don’t you forget to write. Imma be expecting at least three pages long letters, with pictures!” Says you mom, refusing to let you go just yet. You laugh, but leaving her embrace hurts you too. You’re gonna miss her like crazy.
“A letter a week, I promise.” She holds your face between her hands and you give her a couple tears, even after you promised yourself you wouldn’t cry. She deserves it. She laughs sadly and wipes them off for you. Then hugs you one last time, whispering “I love you” and “Be careful” in your ear.
You wait till Robin is done talking to Mr Hauser, (“You made it!” He says to her. “I did!” She replies as she hugs him) to say goodbye to Jonathan and Nancy, who wish you the best and promise to write as well. You wish them good luck during college to both of them, and hug them one last time.
You move on to Steve, who’s trying his best not to cry, but it’s visible he’s just about to give in.
“Steve…” you laugh and he curses you when the tears start coming. “Come here, you dingus.” You pull him and Robin, who had just finished with her parents, into a hug.
“I’M GONNA MISS YOU SO MUCH” he cries into your shoulders.
“We too.” You three stay there for a second longer, but then you leave a kiss in his hair and pull back. He wipes the tears with his sleeve and smiles sadly. “Oh, c’mon, don’t cry. We’ll bring you a nice European girlfriend, Steve, we promise.”
He laughs, and while you say goodbye to Robin's parents, promising with honesty that you’ll take the best care of her, she does the same thing with your mom.
And just like that you’re done. All that’s left to do is grab her hand and go into the only-passengers-allowed part of the airport.
So you do, the smile on your faces contrasting with the tears.
Three long hours later, –and two trips to the bathroom, one coffee, a fashion session at the free shop and a little make out session on a random bathroom stall– you find yourselves on your seats. Robin, after winning an intense rock-paper-scissors tournament, is on the window seat. You sit at her right, with her hand intertwined between yours. It's almost time to take off, and contrary to what you’d believe, Robin is awfully quiet.
“It’s everything okay?” You ask. And she looks at you with a mix of clear sadness and the most pure happiness you’ve seen. She’s crying, it's only a little but enough to make your stomach drop. You hate seeing her cry, no matter the context.
“I never thought I’d be sad to leave Hawkins…” she whispers and you chuckle.
“It’s a little weird” you admit, she is laying her head on your shoulder. “But it's your hometown, after all. And this is not a one way ticket.”
“That also makes me sad! It’s only for six months and then we’re back!”
“So you're sad we’re going away…” you try to resonate, she nods without her head leaving your shoulder. “And you're also already sad because we have to come back?”
“Yeah” she laughs in between cries.
“God…” you sight, jokingly.
“Oh, don’t act like me being insane is something new to you, Y/LN. You signed up for this.”
You take a second to kiss her face and squeeze her hand three times, trying to tell her how much you loved her without having to verbalize it.
“And I’ll do it over and over again.”
And with that statement the plane takes off and your dream materializes. Your running away conversations become true as you leave the Hawkins lights behind and you can’t help but cry too. Feeling like you’ve lived only for this moment to arrive.
Time starts to act weird after that, because the nine hour flight feels never ending, but from the moment you arrive at the airport, –seven am for you two, one pm for the rest of the country– time, ironically, seems to fly by.
You get your bags and call a taxi, leaving all the talking to your girlfriend, who was so excited to prove her abilities for real. And you see, Robin speaking anything but English usually turned you on back home. You thought once you were somewhere where they don’t speak English in general then it wouldn’t have the same wonderful but inconvenient effect on your body.
Safe to say, your hypothesis was wrong. So wrong it is almost enough for you both to overcome your exhaustion. Key word being almost, because you end up passing out on your new apartment bed with half your clothes gone.
After a solid five hour nap you wake up with a squirming head over your chest. Her scent fills your nostrils and invades your head with the same unconditional love you’ve been feeling since that Christmas, almost five years ago.
“Hey, there…” you whisper, to try and see if she’s awake. You feel her smile, your favorite feeling in the world.
She responds a little “Hi…” with the softest voice you’ve ever heard. She has that guilty smile, the one that she uses when she’s afraid to ask for something. You try and tell her with your heart eyes that you would do everything for her, whatever she wants. You don't think she gets the whole message. You don't think she comprehends just how deep your love is. But she keeps talking, so at least she understood part of it. “Wanna grab some cheap dinner and have a picnic at seven pm?”
You smile and close your eyes, trying to make this moment last as long as possible.
“You know I can't say no to you” and with that she squeals in excitement and leaves the bed to go get ready. “But it’s also like forty degress so find some extra blankets and your biggest jacket!” you yell, because she’s already in the bathroom.
You hear the shower being turned on and the water starting to run reminds you you haven’t peed since the airport, so you get up too.
“Okay, mom…” she jokes. You enter the bathroom and do your business.
“Yeah you laugh now, but when i'm visiting beautiful museums and you’re in bed with a cold imma be the one laughing”
“Oh, you wouldn’t go without me” she says behind the curtain. Steam escaping and fogging the little window on the ceiling.
“Yeah, you’re right…” you accept as you strip down and join her under the water.
A wonderful hour later you’re being helped by a lovely guy who had offered to take your first picture in this adventure. He says an equivalent of “cheese!” you don't quite understand, but obey either way. Then he snaps the picture and returns both the camera and the little polaroid photo to Robin, who thanks him. First, wrongfully in English, and then, seeing the confused look on the guy's face, she repeats it in French.
“Merci pour l'aide!”
“Êtes-vous nouveau ici?”
“Qu'est-ce qui l'a donné?” they both laugh, you still can’t understand a thing. But it’s still So. Fucking. Hot.
“Passez un merveilleux séjour!” he wishes and she smiles at him. What are they saying?
“Merci beaucoup! Bonne nuit”
“Bonne nuit!”
After that he waves you goodbye and goes away. Robin makes her way back to you and shows you the picture. You can see the Eiffel Tower, decorated for the holidays, behind you, but it doesn't shine nearly as much as your smiles, almost buried under scarves and clothing. It was freezing, but you don’t care. Life was almost too good to be true right now, so any simple discomfort didn't matter. How could it? You are here, walking under the stars next to the love of your life, staring at the place of your dreams, with nothing to do but enjoy this paradise.
You get your dinner from the first food car you can find and eat it while discussing your plans for tomorrow. She’s even more enthusiastic than usual, which is a beautiful sight alone, but she’s also so cute trying to eat with her gigantic mittens on. Her pastrami sandwich kept on falling onto the blanket. When you’re done you clean everything up and lay down for a while, staring at the moon and the stars from a completely new perspective. She was actually telling you about some constellations you couldn’t see from home when you interrupted her:
“I'm sorry but can I give you your present?” you ask with an impatient smile. She nods, so you take out a wrapped package from your bag as she takes her mittens out.
The paper is full of stars too, and it has a note with the little drawing you had made on her shoe all those years ago. Instead now it said:
“Operation Croissant:
Phase one officially completed.
Here’s something you might need for phase two!
Loves you, Y/N<3”
She tears the wrapper with all the care in the world, keeping the card in her pocket with the promise of putting it on her wallet. The paper reveals a dark green scrapbook, painted with doodles of you two in the most famous monuments. There's Robin and you sliding down the leaning tower of pisa, climbing the pyramids and sitting on the top of the colosseum. But in the middle of the cover, written in beautiful letters, it said: “Robin and Y/N discover the world.”
Astonished, she opens the book and goes through the first few pages. The first one is almost empty, except for the dedication in the middle. “For Robin. To always running away together, my dear. I love you forever and ever.” The next few pages are filled with the dates and destinations you have planned for this trip and you had left enough space for her to fill with pictures or whatever she wants to. The rest of the scrapbook is blank, ready to be filled with any other adventure you two have in the future.
She stares at it in awe, not believing you actually did all of this just for her.
“Do you like it?” she looks at you in disbelief.
“Are you kidding? This is the best gift I’ve ever received, Y/N. This is beautiful.” she looks like she’s about to cry “I can’t believe this. Thank you so much”
“You’re welcome, baby” you’re so glad she liked it.
She examines the gift for a little longer before bringing a pout to her face.
“Is everything okay?”
“Everything is wonderful” she assures you “But now my gift seems a bit…”
“Robin, I will love your gift no matter what. You could give me your literal farts on a little glass bottle and I would still treasure them with my life, alright?” you even grab her hands to make your point. How could you care about material things when having her in your life was already the best present she could ever give you.
“Close your eyes” she demands and you follow through with it. She starts looking around in her bag “No peeking!” she says, putting a cold hand over your face.
“I'm not!”
“Here it is!” she says to herself when she finds it. Then she takes her hand off you, but you don’t open your eyes just yet. Not until she says “Alright, now you can look…” you feel the nerves in her voice, so you’re just a little worried when you open your eyes.
And the last thing you expect to be waiting for you is your girlfriend, with a nervous smile, holding open a little purple box, containing a ring.
Your features must reflect your shock, cause she starts doing the thing when she anxiously over explains everything.
“It's not a proposal ring!” is the first thing she clarifies, you frown “I mean, it kinda is, but for a lot of reasons it's more of a promise ring.” she grabs your hand, holding up both her eyebrows, like asking for your permission. You, of course, nod ‘yes’. “With this…” she says as she slides the ring into your finger. “I promise you, right now right here, that I'm here to stay for the long haul, whatever that looks like in our future. Even if it's traveling across the globe, or growing old in some forgotten corner of the world, with eight kids and twenty five grandkids or twelve cats and the biggest book shelf to ever be made. I don't care how life turns out to be, but the only thing I can't ever be missing is you…”
After such revelation you can't do anything but hug her, trying to be discreet, because you are still in public, but also wanting to respond to all of those feelings. Tell her that every bit of her love was reciprocated. You stay in that embrace, her arms founding their usual place in your hips, as your body practically melted into hers. You were so lucky.
“That sounds an awful lot like an engagement ring…” you say, tears holding desperately to your eyelashes as you grab your right hand and examine the ring closer. It’s nice and delicated, with an emerald instead of a diamond. You wonder how she managed to pay it, and suddenly remember all the shifts she had to ‘cover Steve’ for. “Robin, this is beautiful…” you add in whispers.
“I know, but it’s not like we can get married anyway…” she whispers back and it feels like a stab right in the middle of your chest.
Right.
You technically, and legally, couldn’t. But when have the two of you done anything the traditional way?
“We don’t need papers for it to feel official, don’t we?” She shrugs, not getting the message. “Robin Buckley…” you call again and she looks up from your embrace, confused at the use of her full name. “Can I ask you a question?”
She laughs, knowingly. She deserves that.
“Of course.”
“Would you marry me anyway?”
Her features soften as she scans your eyes for any type of indicator this might be a joke. But you’re a hundred percent sure. You’ve never been more sure of anything in your whole life. Her eyes and mouth open, like she’d never even thought marrying you was a real possibility. Like she had just resigned to their rules and accepted she could never have the type of love songs and films were about. Like you had just given her the key to a completely new word.
And, if you thought about it, you had. You had just offered her the most precious thing anyone could give; time. You had given her the key to every early morning of coffees and crazy hairs and every late night of secrets and nightmares, the chance to comfort you after every failure and celebrate with you every win, the opportunity to stick by your side on every step of the way.
Instead of properly answering she grabs your face and kisses you in plain sight for the first time in your lives. Her lips are soft and cold and her face is slightly wet because of all the tears, but it’s still the best kiss you’ve ever had the honor to experience.
You pull away after a second and wait for her to actually answer, but she’s just staring at you with a loving smile.
“Is– is that a..?”
“Right!” she remembers, you chuckle. Such a dork. “Yes, Y/N Y/LN, I will marry you.”
You kiss her once again, pulling her in for a hug and letting silence invade you once more.
At some point she starts softly laughing. “Proposing in the city of love? That’s so cheesy!” you laugh too, but also tickle her on her right side, making her squirm on your arms.
“It was not my ring but yours!” you defend yourself. “Plus, you know the dork inside you secretly loved it.”
“Yeah she did.” she accepts with a chuckle “Merry Christmas, Y/N”
“Merry Christmas, Robin.”

august, robin x you
Tumblr media
day twenty-eight of drabble july! today's words: heat, nice
Despite your hair getting in your face, you manage to catch a glimpse of your clock. Its 4:34. You were supposed to meet your girlfriend in the rarely crowded back of the mall at 4:30. You try to hurry, the summer heat making it nearly impossible.
She’s mad, you can tell, but it’s really hard to take her seriously when she’s dressed in that sailor outfit.
“My break’s almost over!!!” she complains as you get off your bike and corner her against the wall.
“Shhh, stop whining and start kissing me, Buckley”
“Only cause you asked so nicely”
