I never had the chance to love you or be loved in return but I’m proud of you. I hope you’re proud of you too. Every time we spoke, I wanted more, I love the sound of you voice, the gold flakes in your emerald eyes. Your infectious laugh. Glad that I could make smile; sorry I wasn’t the one you wanted. But you were the one I wanted at the time. I knew who I was at 21. This girl who wants to escape and live her life to its fullest capacity, a girl who was ready for anything who wanted to be your everything, your person. And I knew who you were, this boy of 24 who wanted to prove to himself he had everything in order. This boy who needed to leave the city to “find himself” as if he were in some shitty romantic comedy. I hoped that one day you would come back and realize that you are enough for me, you were enough for yourself. We fit each other oddly. We’re both different, yet the same. If someone were to ask me today how I felt about you I would say “I feel the same, the same way I felt the day you kissed me. Seeing the light after the perpetual darkness.” And if someone were to ask what it feels like to lose you, I would say, “It’s like hearing every goodbye said to you at once. A sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach, because you knew this day would come, you knew in the back of your mind it would end, but you didn’t think it would end like this.
