sneak peek for the next chapter of the Atlantis au, coming out tomorrow :]

Scar’s head was pounding violently, his body aching dully. He could feel the point of the Watcher’s Journal digging into his side, as well as a sharp pain across his shoulder. He took in a raggedy breath, trying to pull himself from unconsciousness to wakefulness, and he blinked his eyes open slowly, his vision blurred.

He froze as he saw three figures crouched in front of him, large masks shaped like distorted faces covering nearly their entire form. There was a faint purple light emanating from them, and they wielded long staffs that had a curled and sharpened metal tip to them. They were speaking in a quiet language to each other, and if he were in the right state of mind, he probably would have been able to translate it. But right now, he was terrified out of his wits.

He tried to scramble back, away from them, but he barely made any headway before collapsing to the ground again, the pain in his muscles and especially in his shoulder. He pressed his hand to it, letting out a quiet hiss as he felt the blood soaking through his undershirt. That couldn’t be good.

One of the figures pushed their way to the front, crouching in front of him, their mask inches away from his face. There was a moment of silence, Scar’s labored breathing the only sound, before the figure in front of him lifted their mask to reveal…a person. They were male presenting, with a pure shock of white hair, dark brown eyes, and purple lines tattooed along his left cheekbone. The expression on his face was one of concern, and that caught Scar off guard enough for him to reach forward and tug the hem of his undershirt down to reveal the blood soaked wound beneath.

Actually, all artists will go insane if you draw art of their art. The same goes for fic writers. It could be a stick figure and we'd still love it. We're also kissing you on the lips

i don't know why i didn't think of this before, but i can totally post snippets of what i'm writing on tumblr

so uh have this piece of the atlantis au from chapter 7 (which will be posted tomorrow!)

oh and if you're seeing this without knowing what the atlantis au is, it's an au that @talkinowlaboutit and i have been working on based off of the atlantis movie from 2001. you can find the art on their blog and the writing here!

It was a low groaning sound that woke Scar up in the middle of the night. It was pitch black out, the only source of light being the specks glowing in the ground and around the city, and he blinked sleepily a few times before rolling over in an attempt to fall back asleep. He had almost managed it when another groan emerged from the dark, accompanied by a rattling sound. It sounded similar to rocks scraping together, but it was paired with the almost human groan of something alive. 

He pushed himself into a sitting position, then scooted to the edge of his tent, lifting the flap to peer outside. Nothing. There was nothing out there. It was probably just someone snoring…in a weird…gravelly way…

The sound echoed off of the walls of the cave again, sounding almost angrier this time, and Scar slowly wrapped his hand around his cane, using it to help drag himself out of his tent and into a standing position up on the squishy ground. With his other hand, he picked up the Watcher’s journal. He wasn’t sure why, in all honesty, it wasn’t like he was going far, but something about its familiar weight comforted him. 

As he walked along the shimmering ground, it rippled, sending waves through the darker soil as he stepped past the tents towards the ancient city. The sound bounced off of the ruins, and it would be easy to mistake it for shifting rubble. But no, there was something alive about it.

He took a few more steps forward, and a rattling sound reached Scar’s ears, surprising him into stopping. He crouched down to see a little tendril of some kind of plant poking out of the ground, waving from side to side. It was glowing faintly, just like the ground, and when he reached out to touch it, it made the same rattling sound again.

“Well hello there.” Scar whispered, leaning forward to examine it better. “What are you?”

The low groan echoed from in the city again, this time sounding much closer. Scar turned to face the sound, then froze as the lights around him vanished, plunging him into darkness. He was completely blind, unable to see anything. He stumbled backwards a few steps, just as the groaning sound turned into a roar.

for some reason the reblog saying "an artist's worst nightmare" made me so frustrated I had to sit down and draw out all the hands

so here, take this artist's art and know that they enjoyed every second of drawing these hands :]

also I ran out of sketchbook space which is why the hands are partially cut off, so apologies for that

About the AO3 "No Guest Comments for a while" warning

If you're not following any of AO3's social media accounts you might be in the dark as to what kind of "spam comments" have engendered this banner at the top of the site:

These spam comments have been posted about a great deal on the AO3 subreddit for the past couple of days. Initially they comprised a bunch of guest (logged out users) bot comments that insulted authors by suggesting they were using AI and not writing their own fics. Some examples, from the subreddit:

But it then escalated to outright graphic porn images and gifs being posted in comments, again by logged out 'Guest' accounts. Obviously, I'm not going to give examples of those, but between these two bot infestations, AO3 has clearly decided to act and has temporarily closed the ability to post comments for users who are not logged in with an AO3 account.

Unfortunately, this means that genuine readers who don't have an AO3 account won't be able to leave comments on fics that they enjoy.

If you are a genuine reader who doesn't yet have an AO3 account, I strongly suggest getting yourself on the waiting list for one. More and more AO3 authors are now locking their fics down to registered users only - either due to these bot comments or concerns about AI scraping their work - which means you're probably missing out on a lot of great stuff.

Hopefully guest commenting will be enabled again at some point soon, but I suggest not waiting until then. Get yourself on that list.

Wait times are going to be longer than usual at the moment, due to the current Wattpad purge [info on Fanlore | Wattpad subreddit thread], but if you're in line, then your invite will come through eventually.

I realized the way I draw Scar was giving Milo Thatch core and Atlantis is one of my favorite movies from childhood. One thing led to another and here we are. Grian is Atlantean in this au with all his watcher fan lore. Scar is really just Scar but that’s okay, cause I love that whimsical man.

@gladumfdoodles has taken my half formed ideas and really ran with the au! They let me poke my nose in and give my two cents here and there but they’ve been in the kitchen cooking up a feast of a fic.

Attention Minecraft Block Men Writers

EDIT: I have now made a spreadsheet that will do the math for you!! use that instead if you don't like math :]

what's up guys it's your favorite minecraft writer here to give you a formula of irl time to minecraft time because i just spend far too long trying to figure out how to convert play time to game time and such

okay so a day in minecraft is 10 minutes, dawn/dusk combined is 3, and night is 7

to make it easy on ourselves, we're gonna do a day = 12 hours. here's the formula you need to use:

720/10 = Y/X

let's say a task takes 1 minute irl. how much time would that take in the minecraft timeline? well,

720/10 = Y/1

so Y = 72 minutes

1 minute irl is 72 minutes in minecraft

now if you're confused about how to do seconds, don't worry, i was too, i spent 30 minutes slamming my head against a wall to figure this out

we'll take 30 seconds, that's the longest time it takes to fish if you're in broad daylight

720/10 = Y/30

Y = 2160

but it's not 2160 minutes, no, that's 2160 seconds, if we want a time in minutes, we have to convert the times. stay with me, i know this hurts the brain a lot

2160 sec x (1 min/60 sec)

the seconds cancel out and you're left with (2160/60) minutes. since it's a simple seconds to minutes, you could just ignore the whole cancelling out thing and just divide by 60 if you don't want your brain to explode

so in conclusion, 30 seconds in real life is 36 minutes in game, my head hurts, and your formula is

720/10 = in game time/irl time

or, (irl time x 720)/ 10 = in game time

good luck, happy writing, and go convert some potion times, you'll learn a lot

hello everyone!

I'm currently working on an essay discussing desert duo and their relationship and I was wondering if anyone has any of the following posts/information:

-First use of the name Desert Duo

-Early 3rd life art, meaning art that was created around April 2021

-various fan analyses of scarian/desert duo showing different reasons why they're so interesting and why fandom loves them so much
