I remade my demon slayer ocs ref since the last one is soooo ugly!!!

I wanna take a moment to talk about him I love him and I’ve worked hard on him over the years LOL:

-He’s an ice breathe user. This isn’t new info but I have made and finalized the lore of ice breathing, it’s a lot so the mega summary is that it originates from snow breathing and is a modified version that hikaru personally created to compensate for his inability to learn snow breathing. I got forms made and everything XD. Snow breathing itself comes from wind breathing.

-His sword is based of ice saws. It works in his favor since Hikaru isn’t that strong in his upper body (which is why he needed to make his own breathing style) so the serrated edge makes it easier for him to cut off demon heads.

-He’s mega fast, since his breathing style relies on speed over strength he’s learned to be real quick and at one point begs uzui to train him lol

- He’s one year older than Tanjiro and is just a few cm taller than him too. He did the final selection way before they did when he was much younger since his family for generations have been demon slayers so he was trained since he was a kid to be a demon slayer.

-Kinda cringe oc shipping but I like to ship him with Genya LOL. This also isn’t new since I have past artworks of them together. To clarify he is gay lol

Enjoy this sketch I did of hisoka. I haven’t been making any finished pieces recently, mostly sketches, so I kinda want to start posting those.

She reads like such a fandom self-insert. I have no idea why they decided take the route to make her like the shimadas but ‘better’. She has so many newer and better abilities than them that they, at least to me, don’t feel as intimidating as before. The cool ninjas that also wield dragons who where killer assassin heirs to a yakuza clan are out powered by some girl that took care of a temple and gained a fox spirit lol. Her spirit is everything the fandom thought the dragons would be which might be why Ow did that but it just made everything ridiculous. the fandom get too into their headcanons that they forget somethings aren’t canon, which is prob why everyone forgot that all the dragons can do is empower the brothers for like a limited time. They don’t do much else, they don’t have personalities, they aren’t used for anything outside of battle (and even then they are used sparsely).

I also get what you’re saying about other character’s personality. It doesn’t feel too obvious with some but with soldier76 it’s very obvious they wanted to hit all those “he’s the dad of ow” notes. They, meaning blizzard, totally are trying to feed the fandom with some voicelines. I adore Cassidy and hanzos new line but even as an avid Yeehan shipper can tell it was to feed into the fandom. D.va is also one that feels like she’s only used to represent the gamers now which sucks; I really only noticed this because her recent voicelines feel too cringy and meta than before.

Multiple characters kinda feel like a caricature of what they once were. Ana now is only the sweet ‘mom’ of the team that teases the youngsters. Reinhardt is the funny charge big man that yells all the time. Ow doesn’t seem to want to add too much depth or flaws to their characters which seems funny cuz it’s not like they tried too hard before. Zarya being omnic racist was cool because it was a very clear flaw reflected on her life; and yea I get she got time to work on that in her comic but she never fully grew out of that mindset. None of her new lines show the real aggression she had towards them like before, they all feel like she’s practically over it. And that’s 100% due to the fact everyone in the fandom hated her being racist and would immediately erase that part of her. Where’s her growth if she works with an omnic once and immediately gets over being racist? Not only that but she’s also been pushed down to be just the strong Russian woman that’s strong. Get it guys she’s strong! Like her line “I shoot black holes at people I don’t like” ? Like come on guys I know she isn’t that good in English but you expect me to believe a war torn fighter would talk like this when asked about her weapon she’s used for years?

Not to mention pharah that’s 100% everything the fandom wanted, just without any real personality. She was a lot more serious before with an air of professionalism; taking her fighting seriously because it’s something she really cares about after being denied it from her for years. But now she’s a complete joke. Not only does she try to be comedic at any chance she gets, saying the most meta jokes possible, but even her serious lines with her mom seem so 2-D. They’re so… poorly written.

Personally I feel like Kiriko suffers this and more. I’ve felt since Echo Overwatch kind of stopped caring about their characters after recounting their backstories. I do enjoy sigmas hell even Hammonds backstories but when tasked to portray how they are now they fall flat. Kiriko suffers that she didn’t even get a good backstory, so not only is she extremely uninteresting as she’s just a carbon copy of the brothers, but she also has 0 depth in the present. Why am I supposed to care about her? She’s stronger than the brothers but at least they have compelling stories and emotional depth/motivations. Kiriko wants to fight against the Hashimoto because they’re meaner than the shimadas I guess, plus she lives there. But she hasn’t suffered anything to be where she is now. She has a very protagonist vibe because anyone could’ve received a fox spirit since she didn’t really do anything special; not like the brothers that have their dragons because they where born in a clan. Lucios story is somewhat similar to hers in terms of motivations but way cooler because not only did he have to fight to get where he is, but his story also carries nuanced takes from the real world like a huge company taking advantage of a poorer community. The Hashimoto seem like comically bad villains than anything serious.

Sojourn and junkerqueen seem to suffer this a bit just not as harsh. JunkerQueens backstory is the best out of the three, but I’d argue they got lucky because a lot of the world building for junkertown was already done with roadhog and junkrats lore. Sojourn just feels too boring. She wasn’t that special and doesn’t stand out for anything. Almost fully robotic limbs? We already got that from genji with the difference that genji showed more depth by actually being distraught for losing his limbs. Sojourn I guess could’ve been a cool reverse of this of someone that’s glad to have gotten robotic limbs but she has such a whatever attitude towards them that I just don’t care lol. And you can bet all their personalities are 2-d. JunkerQueen is just another big crazy loud lady, which I guess is fine for starting voicelines to get a feel for the character, but lol even in her cinematic she’s exactly the same and it takes place 10 years ago! You’d think she’d be more emotional fighting the guy that was the reason her entire family died, or just overall being more angsty because she was younger, but no. She acts the same there, in her story animatic, and in game.

I could go on about characters like doomfist or reaper that are like a husk of themselves due to poor writing but the post is way too long LOL. You can tell I really like this game. And don’t worry about stealing my thunder or anything! I actually wasn’t expecting any replies and am really glad to see people agree with my takes/bring up convo.Very much felt like I was alone in how I felt about Kiriko and started to feel like I was missing something xd. I don’t have a lot of friends that got into the lore as much as I did so it’s neat to finally talk about it with others :]!

Incoming rant about overwatch Kiriko LOL

Not to be a downer but I really fucking hate Kiriko 😭 Specifically in the lore cuz in game she’s whatever but god I can’t stand her lore. Not only does her story contradict and ruin the shimadas story/timeline, but overall she feels like such a wattpad oc. Blizzard really couldn’t be creative enough to create an interesting character that’s related to the shimadas without being an exact copy of them. Of course she’s a ninja and can fight exactly like the brothers, obviously she needs a spirit fox that somehow is (lore wise) even stronger than the dragons.

Absolutely hate that overwatch broke their one rule of “No magic” with Kiriko. The dragons have been stated before to be some type to technology, why couldn’t they do the same with her? At least with zenyatta Ow has come out to state that his abilities aren’t canon to the lore, the same could’ve been stated with Kirikos magic healing and teleport but instead THEY’RE ACTUALLY CANON. It would’ve been cooler if her fox was some kind of omnic, like it was built as a robotic pet but got a conscience and acted kinda like bastion. It could’ve been so interesting to see less humanoid robots become omnics. But instead blizzard had to scramble to explain why this random girl would have a powerful fox spirit.

I also can’t stand that sojiros reveal, something we’ve been waiting for since the dragons cinematic, is shown through kirikos dumbass story. You’re meaning to tell me that the majority/only times we’ve seen sojiro AND get lore from him is through kiriko? Not even through his two fucking sons. It would’ve been a thousand times more impactful through a flashback of hanzo or genji but it’s instead by someone that isn’t even a part of the family. Adding on top of that, like I said before, we’ve gotten the most lore of sojiro THROUGH KIRIKO. Him telling her that silly story of protecting the city is the most we’ve gotten from him and it wasn’t even from his sons.

Last thing I’ll mention is how much I dislike how they’ve handled her relationship with the brothers. Sure, it makes sense that genji would try to be her friend but I highly doubt hanzo would care lol. And even if he did it feels like such a stretch that they’d see her as a niece; I mean did her mother really bring her that often to a yakuza castle? I’m more lenient on that tho because it could’ve just been that they saw her as a niece because they saw her mom as kinda a mother figure to them. What really frustrates me is her interactions with the brothers now. Not one voice line with genji about how she’s missed him cuz she though he was DEAD? We don’t even know is she knows he survived hanzos attack, but yea instead of giving them meaningful interactions it’s just silly jokes. Not to mention hanzo, where the only voice line she’s directly mean to him is because he isn’t fighting for Hanamura 💀. I was hoping she’d be rude towards him because of what he did but she barely is. There’s only one voice line related to hanzo hurting genji and it can easily be interpreted as her being playful, it’s only if you squint that it seems passive aggressive. And out of all the things she’s mad at hanzo for it’s for not helping against the Hashimoto? As if that’s his problem lmao. Hanzo has no reason to fight for Hanamura; his only tie there is that he grew up there. And yea that’d make him look like even more of an ass but that place is riddled with awful memories, why would he want to go back? I know he’s nostalgic and has stated to miss hanamura but there’s a reason he’d only go back for genjis yearly prayer lol. It just seems so silly to me that she’d guilt hanzo for not helping her as if it’s his fault/problem. Sure the Hashimoto are a threat and should be dealt with but she doesn’t even know if he has other things to fight for. It’s disappointing because she could’ve been an unbiased opinion between the brothers conflict but they do nothing with her. To add on to that it genuinely feels like she adored/glorifies the shimada clan, which brings its own load of problems 😭

There’s absolutely nothing I like about her lore even though she had so much potential to be an interesting character. And anytime they release stuff about her it just feels like I’m the only one that doesn’t like her story 😭. It’s fine if you like her personality but it seems like everyone fully enjoys her and I just don’t get why; besides the fact she brings shimada lore. ALSO sorry again if this is so random, I barely post anyway, but ow has been special to me for years and I’ve withstood a ton but Kiriko just crosses the line for me. All the characters have at least one thing you can enjoy from them but Kiriko sure as hell doesn’t for me.
