Before she can even fully withdraw Sylveon, a high-heeled boot slams in her side and Sabine feels something snap.

Her ears ring as she fights to breathe- it's either panic or the injury making it hard, she can't tell- but she doesn't catch that last part. But she sees Essentia- no, Emma, her name is Emma, whose Meowstic is missing her, damnit- tilt her head, and she can almost see the gears turning in her brain as she moves almost robotically. She leaves a dent in the dustbin as she kicks it out of her way, boxing her further into the alley-

Her pokémon lost. Badly. It has regressed to physical blows and she, too, is losing. Bad.

She hears Essentia speak in another teenage girl's voice, garbled through a voice changer into an unnatural high pitch- "Relinquish every Pokémon you possess. Cooperate or they will-"

"Emma, I know you can hear me- if you just stop and listen, wake up, for THE LOVE OF-!" Emma doesn't stop and Emma doesn't listen and Sabine isn't fast enough to dodge the blow to her head.

Pink flares behind her eyelids, and-

She can't move.

It hurts.

All she can see is a great, dingy room- perhaps a basement of an expensive building- there's no windows, no natural light, it's full of machinery- she can hear the faint whirr of monitors, occasional beeps- but Xerneas's blessings boosted her senses, so she doesn't need the meagre artificial light to make out the face before her.

Even if it had changed, she had inherited that pink hair. Those blue eyes, gazing down at her like an experiment and not a daughter.

Why can't she speak? The loudest sound she can muster- and oh, how she tries- is a pitiful little rasp. How long has she been unconscious? "Shh," Mother, her mother, her supposed-to-be-dead mother says impatiently, turning away to observe something happening on a screen.

A man's voice, a familiar voice, turn around, Sabine, why aren't you turning around to see who it is- cuts in. "The Saviour Expansion suit is operating at five hundred percent capacity. She's already fit for action." What the hell is an expansion suit and why is it on her?

"Excellent." She doesn't like the smile on Mother's face. "Your Essentia's done well- even if it did take a while. Colour me impressed."

"You should know better than to underestimate my judgement- our weapon, now, when she was once our obstacle- now, this is a triumph. Proof of Team Flare's scientific prowess, a triumph over even Xerneas itself- its mistake was Choosing her!" A harsh laugh- she keeps trying but she just can't place the voice, why can't she-

"If I may- the girl was only one obstacle. Sycamore's still around- you know that heretic did to Lysandre- and if the rumors are true about Willow, he's just as dangerous." That's a grunt, she can see the red of their raggedy uniform- barely, only if she strains her eyes- why are there so many people here, they were supposed to be wiped out, Flare had been done for-

"Plus that Champion brat from Vaniville- all of them need to go before we charge It." What- why are they talking about- Calem..? The Professors?

"Yes, they'll all have to die. Sycamore first. Consider it a test run."

"Agreed. Saviour. Remote control, activate." Her eyes feel hazy and her vision blurs. No, no, she can't sleep- why does she want to sleep-?! Arc, is this what they did to Emma- she can't hurt the Professor, she can't breathe, she's going to die, she's going to-

Sabine knows no more.

"Remote Command, Priority Alpha: Destroy Sycamore's Lab."
