Here is a small preview of the most preposterous prop I have ever made for a costume. I put her on one of my pillows to show how big she is for one of my buddies.

Hello! I completely forgot to upload these. So the hat that I posted pictures of previous was taken apart and altered, because I decided that it wasn't gross and creepy enough. The costume was supposed to be very bog/swampy. It looked too cute before, but then I think I went a little far in the creepy category.
Anyway, that little skull on there is real btw. Those little mushrooms look way brighter in pictures than they actually are. I do like adding lights to costumes, but I'm not skilled enough with a camera to actually capture what it looks like.
The walking staff was pretty fun to make. It's just cotton, twine, chicken bones, some big sticks I found, and a plastic mixing jar. And paint, obviously.
I also didn't pose any of this stuff well, because these were just pictures for a buddy of mine. I am terrible with pictures. I just make things, then throw them in the attic.

Hey, been a really long time since I updated here.
This is a lantern I made for a costume. It goes on a belt, and there's a second, longer lantern that goes with it. Thankfully, my buddies have been demanding pictures of this kinda stuff. That's the only reason these pictures exist lol
Anyway, I was going to make them all out of wood and worbla, but I realized I wouldn't have enough time to do it that way. I ended up just buying some little lanterns, gutting them, taking them all apart, painting them, making a bunch of faux glass, then hinging them all together. Are you aware of how terrible plastic bonder is? If not, just take my word for it.
I want to end up making the wood and worbla ones eventually. Maybe I'll make them for the ghost costume (that might never exist).

It's been a while since I've done any paper working. I forgot how easy it is, but I still had to do all of this just for a teeny tiny detail on a costume. Granted it's the focal point of a specific section, but still, ridiculous. Oh well, I think it turned out pretty neat.

TADA! Finally get to post some costume pics. This was my first time adding lights to a costume btw. I'm not 100% satisfied with it, but I guess it's alright for a first attempt.
The colors aren't accurate btw. The leaves are more a muted olive green, and those mushrooms are a bright rusty orange. I can never get colors right in pictures though.
Anyway, everything except for the hat was just junk I grabbed when all of the fall decor went on sale. Think I spent a total of $6 on all of it.

I know it's late, so no one will probably read this, but I'm excited. I've been working on this costume for a while now and I've finally gotten to the best part. Weathering! So I'm gonna ramble about distressing and weathering for a bit
I was actually talking to someone about this recently. This is the best part of making a costume, aside from actually doing the makeup/effects and wearing it (or someone wearing it). It's weird. You spend all of this time actually making the costume, planning it out, getting fabric and supplies, building everything from the ground up, just so you can destroy it. It's like constructing something specifically so you can fuck it up. It really is the best part.
I've spent my free time for MONTHS planning and sewing all of this together, and tomorrow I get to throw coffee, tea, sawdust and ink on it. I get to do mud for this costume too, which is something I haven't ever done before. I'm pumped about that and it's going to be a damn good time. And then, it gets better, because I get to start focusing on details. Fun times.
Granted, I shouldn't be too excited about detail work. I'm doing electrical stuff this time (which is a huge weakness of mine since electricity frightens me, especially when combined with lots of flammable stuff) and I have no idea if it's going to work or not, but it will be awesome if it does!
