Underground Landscapes by Timo Stammberger 

In the words of the artist Timo Stammberger:

When I was a kid, I remember my grandfather often taking me on trips to a train station nearby which happened to neighbor a freight train yard. I immediately got fascinated by the atmosphere of the track landscape, the thunderous sound of trains passing by, followed by a complete calm. I’ve been a track romantic ever since. 

“Underground Landscapes” depicts subway tunnels of cities such as Berlin, Hamburg, Frankfurt, New York, Philadelphia, Lisbon, Barcelona, Stockholm, Dortmund, Prague, Budapest and Vienna. (2006-2014)

Architecture of “Ghost in the Shell “

Ghost in the Shell is a Japanese media franchise originally published as a seinen manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Masamune Shirow. Animation studio Production I.G has produced several different anime adaptations of Ghost in the Shell, starting with the 1995 film of the same name, telling the story of Section 9’s investigation of the Puppet Master.

Mamoru Oshii (the director of the 1995 film) based the setting for Ghost in the Shell on Hong Kong. Oshii commented that his first thought to find an image of the future setting was an Asian city, but finding a suitable cityscape of the future would be impossible. Oshii chose to use the real streets of Hong Kong as his model. He also said that Hong Kong was the perfect subject and theme for the film with its countless signs and the cacophony of sounds. The film’s mecha designer Takeuchi Atsushi noted that while the film does not have a chosen setting, it is obviously based on Hong Kong because the city represented the theme of the film, the old and the new which exist in a strange relationship in an age of an information deluge. Before shooting the film, the artists drew sketches that emphasized Hong Kong’s chaotic, confusing and overwhelming aspects.

İnsan üç ölçülü fəzada yaşayır və hərəkət edir. Təkamül prosesində fəzanın xüsusiyyətləri (bərkliyi, kimyəvi tərkibi, səskeçirmə qabiliyyəti və s.)  canlıların quruluşlarından davranışlarına qədər bir çox xüsusiyyətinə əhəmiyyəti ölçüdə təsir edir. Növlərin əmələ gəlməsində də ən vacib faktorlardan biri məhz coğrafi ayrılmadır; bir növə aid bir qrup ana populyasiyadan ayrılıb, fərqli bir məkana miqrasiya edib, o məkana uyğun xüsusiyyətlər qazanaraq, yeni növ yarada bilir. Bir sözlə, Təbiət Ana (Genetika ilə qarşılıqlı əlaqədə) canlıların memarıdır, o, sümüklərimizin uzunluğunu, dərimizin tüklülüyünü, habelə, duyğularımızı, hərəkətlərimizi, düşüncəmizi şəkilləndirir.

Məlum məsələdir ki, insanı digər heyvanlardan fərqləndirən əsas məsələ bizim növdə mədəniyyətin yaranmasıdır. Mədəniyyətin yaranması ilə Təbiət Ananın yaradıcılıq predmeti olmaqdan tamamilə çıxmasaq da, bəzi məsələləri onun əlindən nisbətən almışıq. Hazırda insanların [hamısı yox] böyük əksəriyyəti tikilmiş məkanlarda doğulur və yaşayır, bu isə o deməkdir ki, insanların ətraf mühit və fəza ilə əlaqəsi daha çox müvafiq şəxslərin etdiyi şüurlu seçimlərdən asılıdır. Memari seçimlərin hər birinin öz növbəsində kompleks mədəni və bioloji səbəbləri və gələcəyə bağlı nəticələri var. Təbii ki, memarlığın insan davranışlarında rolu sadalanan misallarla bitmir; ətrafdakı memarlıq abidələrinin, o cümlədən şəhər elementlərinin (yollar, parklar və s.) bir çoxu şüurlu və ya şüursuz şəkildə, davranışla əlaqədar müəyyən məqsədlərə xidmət etmək üçün dizayn olunur. Gibson Imkanat Nəzəriyyəsi (1977; The Theory of Affordances) adlı məqaləsi və daha sonra Görmə Duyğusuna Ekoloji Yanaşma (1979; The Ecological Approach to Visual Perception) adlı kitabı ilə gətirib. Gibsona görə müxtəlif səthlər canlıya xüsusi hərəkət imkanatları verir və bu imkanatlar görmə ilə avtomatik olaraq dərk olunur. Yəni, obyektin mənasının qavranması, görmə prosesinin ayrılmaz bir hissəsidir. Məsələn, futbol topu zərbə vurulmağa, alma dişlənməyə imkan verir və bu obyektlərin görərkən bu hərəkət imkanlarını avtomatik olaraq qavrayırıq.

İmkanat ideyası memarlıq üçün də çox vacibdir. Mühitdəki imkanatlar onun içində yaşayan insanların qavrayışına və davranışına birbaşa təsir edir. Memarlıq və psixologiyanın əlaqəsinə dair oxşar ideyalar 20-ci əsr memarlığına güclü təsir göstərmiş və modernist cərəyanı fonunda sosialyönümlü memarlıq təşəbbüslərini məlumatlandırmışdır. Memarlığın və dizaynın insan davranışını müsbətə doğru dəyişdirərək sosial inkişafa və rifaha nail olunacağı inancı dünyaya çox vacib memarlıq nümunələri bağışlamışdır. Buna baxmayaraq, ideyanın praktiki tətbiqi sanılandan çox daha çətindir. Daha ekstrim və belədə çox daha sadəlövh memari determinizm ideyası–yəni, tikilmiş məkanın insanın davranışlarını birbaşa təyin etməsi– da öz növbəsində insan davranışının mürəkkəbliyini kifayət qədər dəyərləndirmədiyinə görə çox rahatlıqla səhv və uğursuz nəticələrə yol aça bilər.

Beyin haqda biliklərimiz dərinləşdikcə, sinir sistemi, davranış və fəzanın qarşılıqlı əlaqəsi haqda daha yaxşı fikrə sahib olacağıq. Lakin bunun üçün canlının ətraf mühitlə əlaqəsinin necə orqanik bir bütün əmələ gəldiyini başa düşmək lazımdır deyə düşünürəm. Neyroelmdə hazırda dominant olan kompüter-kimi-beyin oxşatması bu əlaqəni bütün zənginliyi ilə əhatə etmir. Beyində baş verən prosesləri, qavrayışı və davranışı ekoloji nöqteyi-nəzərdən ələ alaraq–yəni, ətraf mühitlə əlaqəni nəzərə alaraq–davranışın məkanla əlaqəsini 20-ci əsrdə olduğundan daha dərin başa düşəcəyik və bunun nəticəsində, gələcəkdə insanların ehtiyaclarına ən uyğun məkanlar istehsal etmək mümkün olacaq.

Raffaello Ossola Outside of Space and Time

Raffaello Ossola is a Swiss artist that likes to isolate himself to reflect on life as a way to confront feelings and emotions. Deep silence, absolute voids where he discovers the fullness and completeness and translates into art “outside of space and time.” Visions where everything seems but actually is not, where the colors are altered, the images away and memories become confused and lose their linearity of time.

With his paintings, Ossola wants to represent these moments, these situations detached from time, space, and limits that daily life imposes on us. He searches for a way to say “that is not always what it seems” and above all remind everyone, including himself, that “dreams can come true” to the extent that you believe and work for them.

Walking on Water

Christo’s ‘Floating Piers’ installation finally opens to the public June 18th. The highly-anticipated reveal sees 100,000 square meters of shimmering yellow fabric wrap a floating dock that connects various points on Italy’s Lake Iseo. Undulating with the movement of the waves, visitors can now experience the ‘Floating Piers’ as they walk from Sulzano to Monte Isola and to the island of San Paolo, which it completely encircles. The 3 kilometer-long walkway extends clear across the water, with surrounding mountains offering a bird’s-eye view of a golden network of passageways that lead in and around the town. The fabric continues along 1.5 kilometers of pedestrian streets in Sulzano and Peschiera Maraglio.

A Chapel in the Pampas 

Located in the Pampas plains, in the east of the province of Cordoba, Argentina, Capilla San Bernardo by Nicolás Campodónico rises in a small grove, originally occupied by a rural house and its yards, both dismantled in order to reuse their materials, especially its one-hundred-year-old bricks. The site does not have electricity or any other utilities; nature imposes its own conditions.

In the limit between the trees and the open country, the chapel´s volume opens up towards the sun, capturing the natural light of the sunset in the interior. Outside, a vertical and a horizontal poles are placed separately and projected towards the interior. As a result, every day all year round, the shadow of these, slides along the curved interior, finishing its tour overlapping with each other.
