Going Vegan
277 posts
If you are even just thinking about trying to go Vegan, then you are already a pretty cool person! I'm so glad you're here and I hope I can help! This blog is a supportive space for aspiring and new vegans to be able to talk about problems they are having and have their questions answered. My name is Chandler and I have been Vegan for 3 1/2 years. I currently live in New York City where I work for a political non-profit. Already Vegan? Feel free to help aspiring vegans by submitting tips, words of wisdom, or encouragement!

Black Flamingo
Recently discovered this Williamsburg gem - Black Flamingo is a bar serving vegetarian tacos. Every taco on the menu can be made vegan, and they make their own cashew cheese and almond parmesan.
The Tacos range from a Bahn Mi taco to a taco filled with latke and vegan cheese. I would most recommend “The Jam” or “The Palms,” though if you’re there you might want to try one of each (like we did).
The space is beautiful, and would be a great place to bring meat-eating friends. Happy Hour is from 6-8 with $3 tacos & $3 champagne!

Hey! I'm travelling to NYC soon all the way from Australia! I too am vegan and i was wondering if you knew of any good spots in NYC i should check out to eat?? Or even any must-see New York hidden treasures to see on my trip? Thanks!! x
All the way from Australia!? That’s awesome!
CHAMPS: Pretty much my favorite restaurant in NYC is Champs Diner in Brooklyn. It’s a completely vegan diner with traditional diner food like vegan mozzarella sticks, milkshakes, red velvet pancakes, and more! Check it out: http://www.champsdiner.com/
BLYTHE ANN’S: Also there is an all-vegan ice cream parlor in Manhattan with cakebatter soft-serve, and all sorts of delicious flavors and vegan sundaes. They’re between names right now but people are calling it “Blythe Anns” http://www.yelp.com/biz/blythe-anns-new-york
Van Leeuwen’s: Also Van Leeuwen’s is an icecream store (there are several around the city) that has INCREDIBLE vegan ice cream. They also do cold-brew floats, and vegan sundaes. Van Leeuwen’s was also opened by an Australian Woman!
DUNWELL DONUTS: The best vegan donuts ever ever ever. Its also near champs so you can check it out at the same time!
Hidden Gem: If you are in town at the right time theres an all-vegan popup market with vendors selling everything from vegan icecream on a vegan churro, to vegan clothing, to vegan chocolate truffles, to vegan beauty products! https://veganshopup.wordpress.com/

Have you heard about Aquafaba!?
“Vegan meringue is just one of the awesome uses for aquafaba – the juice that you’d normally drain and toss from cooked beans. This discovery is kind of revolutionizing vegan cooking, and it’s beautiful.” ~Glue & Glitter
Glue & Glitter has written a fabulous article on Aquafaba and it’s uses including a round-up of meringue, and other recipes it can be used for!
It can make great Lemon Meringue Pie, French Macaroons, and Pavlova!
