The topic of first relationships played funnily between Lucanis and my Rook. Rook was like: "Well. I wouldn't know how a first kiss tastes like since I've never been kissed before". Lucanis said something like: "In matters of the heart is better not to rush". My Rook was sure that was a patronizing comment coming from someone that probably has kissed dozens of people before.

When they took forever to get together, Rook thought: "Oh, man. He clearly doesn't like me because I'm inexperienced :(". Then that banter between Lucanis and Emmrich happened and Rook was like: "Wait, wait, WHAT? WHAT DO YOU MEAN I'M YOUR FIRST RELATIONSHIP??? YOU WEREN'T BEING PATRONIZING, YOU WERE BEING HONEST!"

Based on the wings in the romance scene being Spite's doing and also on that banter in which Lucanis says he can feel Spite's discomfort as a second layer of uneasy:

Just imagine how overwhelmed romanced Lucanis must be any time he is around Rook, since he doesn't feel only his own love for them, but also Spite's. A double layer of affection.

Lucanis and his tracking of time

Ok so I have seen Lucanis’ romantic diary entry about “losing an hour to Rook” but I haven’t seen any posts around about his careful tracking of time in the Lighthouse. I thought I would rectify this since it truly makes the impact of his “lost hour” with Rook that much greater.

Lucanis keeps a diary of everything he does, with rudimentary timestamps; this makes no sense at first glance, since the fade sky always looks the same and we do not know how time passes in the lighthouse. Lucanis, however, has been tracking it, and it looks like a habit he probably picked up in the Ossuary, to keep track of the days he spent there (and maybe to keep himself from going mad, by giving himself something to do):

So, from the Ossuary he goes to the Lighthouse and keeps up with his habit. I had never thought how the Lighthouse could feel eerily similar to his prison, but he makes the connection himself in the log book entry. He can’t track day and night in the Fade either and he does not know how much time he’s lost in the world by staying there.

He even uses candles to track the time. In his next entry he is trying to figure out how much time he’s spent under the influence of Spite but he cannot be certain as the candle was out when he took over again, meaning that Spite quite probably blew it off:

It looks like he isn’t the only one keeping time either! However, it seems to be important to him, knowing how much true time he’s lost. He is not content witb others keeping track, he does so himself (imho, because it keeps him occupied, he is probably also PTSDing from the Ossuary and the lack of a day/night cycle).

And then you lock in his romance and get this little gem:

He doesn’t need to track time as strongly while he is with Rook. The time isn’t “lost” to him and to the outside world, as any other moment he spends in the Fade. This is a man who has been accounting for every hour in the Fade since he first got there, but with Rook he doesn’t need to anymore. He doesn’t think of the Ossuary or the time he is losing. It is an hour found, more clear than any other. It is an hour (he probably checked his candles or asked the others) that he was at peace.

I headcanon that Spite gets absolutely frustrated and angry that he has a thing for Rook because the human (Lucanis) he is possessing also has a thing for Rook but WONT do anything about it.

He spends most of the time screaming at Lucanis for never making moves. Even though Rook is RIGHT THERE.

I was tinkering with CC after wondering how my Rook would look like a few years younger, before life happened to him and oh boy. You had no idea what was coming your way.

I’ve always seen those “I live a happy life out of spite posts” and I think it’s be funny if Spite just aggressively encourages Lucanis to become better out of spite for his family or the people who locked him up.

Spite: Rook like you. Go kiss them and be happy.
