omniscient reader's viewpoint is a story full of false dichotomies. kim dokja as a character very much loves to draw firm lines in the sand and then the narrative loves to tap dance all over those lines until it's all a muddled mess. whether it's the dichotomy between character/real person, good/evil, constellation/incarnation, reader/writer, or even orv's odd obsession with transgressing between the lines of boy/girl. even the most fundamental dichotomies we use to view the world, such as real/fake and me/not me get thrown into disarray throughout the story. there are countless examples of two things being presented as inherently contradictory and exclusionary, and then being shown not just as overlapping but in fact inherently overlapping - two things being bound together in a dichotomy is just another way of saying you can't truly seperate one of from the other in this narrative.

and the repeating theme of false dichotomies comes up so often because it is central to orv's metanarrative. in order for orv's metanarrative to say the things it wants to say and impart the wisdom it wants to impart about fiction and the ways we interact with it, it must first acknowledge that it is a fiction. in order to convince us to listen to any of what it's saying, to care about the story it's acknowledging it's telling us, it has to convince us on some level it's real. and orv is not just aware of that line it's walking on, calling attention to that line is central part of it's purpose.

showing reality/fiction as a false dichotomy - showing that something despite being fiction can still affect us, save us and make a 'real' impact. likewise, something being 'real' - our perspective on the world, the history we learn, the ideas we rely on - doesn't mean it's incapable of being it's own sort of fiction. the lines are blurred! kim dokja is a fictional character on the page, and he is also inside of me, with me as a i write this. and i only write this because yoo joonghyuk gave sing shong a vision of kim dokja's story, and yoo joonghyuk only did that because sing shong wrote him as doing it. and at the end of the day it all comes back to the idea that the lines we draw in the sand, the walls we build to construct our own worlds. the lines between fictional/real and boy/girl and you/me - theyre as fallible as anything else. people can - and should! - reach through them. you might like what you find on the other side

I was like "lol, punishers got the titty belt" before I remembered WEBTOON YJH HAS NEVER HAD A TITTY BELT AS PART OF HIS DESIGN!!! they're specifically bringing back this fanon design quirk for Yoo Joonghyuk's tits debut and I think that's beautiful.
