who do you think the lynch confirmation saints are?

what a QUESTION!!!! i just had so much fucking fun, thank you!! for consistency, i have mainly chosen who i think they would've picked after niall's death, because i do think the choice would be different pre-death, at least for ronan. and it was more fun for me that way <3

i haven't been a practicing catholic in a long time, but based on what i remember, refreshing my memory just now, and ~vibes~, i'm going with:

declan: st. stephen

considered the first martyr of christianity. pissed everyone off and was considered a heinous blaspheme. was stoned to death by his peers, including people who later became apostles. patron saint of headaches. i was actually typing all of this out for ronan's confirmation saint when i realized... no, this is declan as fuck, actually. first martyr of the lynch brothers at the hand of niall. withstood the weight of an impossible secret and then the resulting resentment, misunderstanding, and misplaced hatred from his brother to keep him safe. a liar, through and through. sacrificed his childhood and his future to keep them both safe. someone make him cry during sex NOW!

ronan: st. jude

patron saint of despair and lost causes, of desperate and hopeless causes. but, also, the patron saint of hope, of the impossible. a faithful friend, a protector, a brother. a farmer. a man very steadfast in his faith. need i say more?

matthew: st. augustine

i think matthew would find augustine being the patron saint of brewers funny and cool, and i think that would be enough for him to make his choice! but augustine was also known for grappling with his faith before committing, and i think matthew could appreciate that. i, personally, found this bit about his beliefs to be pertinent to matthew, especially in the dreamer trilogy:

Augustine believed that though initially the two elements of body and soul were in perfect harmony, after the fall of humanity they came into dramatic combat with one another. He wrote of them as two categorically different things: the body as a three-dimensional object composed of the four elements, and the soul as spatially dimensionless. He further defined the soul as a kind of substance, participating in reason, fit for ruling the body.

5. Do you like constructive criticism?

i do! i think my beta's (you included) always gave me really good constructive criticism that made me a better writer. and at the end of the day, im always striving to be a better writer.

55. Of the characters you write for, which is your favorite? has that choice been swayed at all by your readers/followers' reactions to certain ones?

right now it's jeremy knox, hands down. i yap about this a lot with friends that i think he's fascinating bc hes challenging to write a pov for. he avoids SO much that i have to be so intentional when i write him and i constantly want to crack open his brain and explore whats going on in there. i think jeremy often gets misunderstood as being boring or not complex, but i find it completely opposite. i love his character and how he sees the world, and himself, and in turn it makes it fun to write him! (i am a whore for complex sunshine-y characters riddled with guilt)

66. How do you deal with writing pressure? (negative comments, pressure to update, deadlines etc)

I really just remind myself that this is so unserious. it's fanfic, and im doing it for free on my own time and if people want to rush me then out of spite i will probably just take longer lmao. also negative comments usually make me sad at first, but then i touch grass and remind myself that those people are probably just misunderstanding the story or the story just isn't for them! so i delete and move on. but i mean, it does still get to me im not immune to it

23. Best writing advice for other writers?

my best advice is always to just start writing. i think we can get lost in the getting started of it all, feeling not good enough, like our story isn’t important or may have been done before, but i think those narratives to ourselves hold us back. it did for me for a while.

so just start writing! writing is a skill and it takes practice, and editing is a huge part of that process too. and you can’t edit a blank page.

also remembering that sitting down at the computer etc isn’t the only way to write. creating a playlist is part of that process, or a pinterest board, or writing an outline. so yeah, just start!
