Job update:

A radiant surprise!

So, last time I worked for this bloke - around the 2 week mark, I got fired. He rang me last night. I will admit, I was a bit 'nghhhhwtfdudi do?' in me head. (I really don't have much confidence in jobs. I hsvestrscj record of either being fired due to panic attacks, or quitting before I get fired. Anyhoo, he changed the work schedule. I gained a day. He says ‘you are basically trained now.’

You know, it’s funny. I hate getting up and leaving the cat behind for the day. I’m sooo tempted to bed rot. However, I do enjoy the job so far. I come to work and see two rooms full of cats. I give them meds, I feed them, I clean up after them. I get to spoil them with love in between. The time I spent working in shelters paid off. I actually feel more confident now. I’m not trying to bullshit me way they a job, or am not trying to learn new skills as I go. I’m not inherently against learning new skills, but when things are fast paced and you are trying to do too much whilst multitasking - nope. Just. Nope. This job allows me to take me time to do what needs to be done. If I feel a little stressed, the cats are there. Several are frequently seeking love. I even got along with the coworker who trained me.

When I was a home aid, it often felt like a somewhat thankless job. Some patients were grateful for the help I provided - sometimes. Others, not so much. Even the grateful ones were sometimes moody, and took that out on me. I wasn’t paid a livable wage. I couldn’t move up in the company. I felt trapped and unhappy.

Working with the cats is much simpler - their soft sweet little faces bring joy. Their various sounds are soothing. I am truly passionate about caring for them. I truly cared about the patients I had, but I did the job not because I enjoyed it, but because I needed a job. This time, me heart is in it much more. I can come home to wee Gordon after looking at cars for 8 or 9 hours n not be sick of his sweet little face.

I am grateful to cats. They are not only soft and adorable, but they have helped me throughout life. When I couldn’t talk to anyone, they were there. They saved me from offing meself a few times. Now, they r providing me with a living.

We shall see where things go from here!
