Fixing Ivy in Gotham
Spoilers: season 3 episode 17 (just to be safe)
Okay. So, since you’re still reading imma assume you’ve seen past what I told you. I’ve heard a lot of complaints about Ivy’s sudden age up and I gotta admit I have a couple problems with it myself. They said that the reason the changed Ivy was because
“The character Ivy in the comics, one of her greatest powers is the power of seduction”
Which fair enough, they wanted to get in on some of those awesome ‘Ivy powers’ but in my opinion it could have been done in such a cooler way. Imagine a child ivy instead of using her more adult techniques of seduction she uses her cute charm instead.
Before you comment. Not in a ‘omg a pedophile’ way but in the ‘oh my gawd a child, must protect’ type way and Ivy would just use it on random stupid things such as cookies because she doesn’t really know the power that she actually wields. They also said
“we didn't just make her older with that attack. When she's changed and transformed, there's a real character change as well. She'll still have some of the same traits, but she'll be much darker, more manipulative than the Ivy we've seen so far. There's a more evil quality to her as well. It's more than just physical.”
For this, I thought it would be a cool concept to get Ivy a love interest. Innocent child love, aww. It’s adorable, we just get quick snips of them being cute and stealing things. Awww. Until one day after they steal something, they have a moment after having a near experience with getting caught. She kisses them and they straight up die. That’s right she has toxic kisses but she didn’t know boom. Everyone is devistated. And uh... I feel like I shouldn’t have to mention this but... don’t bring them back. It’ll just ruin everything.
From that point on, Ivy sees the world with a less naive point of view. She sees Gotham for what it is. And if you want you can start making her act more mature. More deceptive. Because that’s what’s she’s learning from looking around the city. She’s seeing people deceive each other. She’s seeing people kill each other. As much as we hate to admit it we are products of our circumstances and Ivy’s aren’t good.
As a result of this new view, Ivy starts actually asking for things that are important. She asks for money, jewels, gems, because with all the money hungry people in Gotham it must be important right? When Selina notices her change in behaviour she confronts her but Ivy calls her childish.
Instead of having Penguin judge her for her obviously foolish and childish behaviour (which, really fair enough for penguin) have him judge her via her appearance. She looks like a child, why wouldn’t he judge her? Then she straight up saves their lives boom. They’re partners. He actually gets scared of her because she’s cold and stabs people all the time. I’d be scared.
In conclusion, Gotham, ya didn’t need 3 actresses to play Ivy. One would’ve been fine. And if they needed to leave as much as I hate to say it, get a replacement. She didn’t need to evolve like a damn caterpie.
Sorry, it’s getting into rant territory so I’ll stop but I think that’s how you solve Gotham’s ‘young Ivy’ problem... wasn’t really a problem. So if you ever want to write a fanfic about this type of Ivy, dude, tag me. I’ll read the heck out of that!
Love you all! Mwah!❤️❤️❤️
