Ruffi’s Faves: Top 5 favorite Browser virtual pet games
Hello everyone, Ruffimutt/Ruffireviews here!Lately one of my hobbies is I have been trying out some browser virtual pet games in my spare-time, and there are a few I would love to show you! Here is my Top 5 favorite browser pet games!
-
5. Squiby
Although Squiby is no longer very popular, it still provide entertainment. Squiby is a lot like Dragcaves and centers around leveling up pets via clicking a link. What makes Squiby stand out though, is pet species and their life stages are user created. You can adopt your very own pikachu if you so desired! Squiby, however, is not maintained properly by its owner and has some cosmetic issues and bugs.
Pros:
Unique Concept
Been around for a while
Is based on user creativity
Cons:
Site has some issues
Community is rarely active
Not much else to do
4. Neopets
If you are older than 13 years old there is a decent chance you have heard of this website before. Neopets is the grandfather to all browser pet games and originated in the late 90s. Since its debut, it has been juggled from several companies such as its own independent company and Nickelodeon. Currently it is owned by the education brand Jumpstart. In Neopets you can adopt up to four pets or five if you have a premium account. Your job is to feed your pets, heal them when they are sick, and play with them. The game can get repetitive after a while, most of Neopets gameplay is just collecting items, playing minigames, and feeding your pet.
Pros:
Mature community
Lots of items
Variety of pets
Balanced game
HMTL Page customization
Clothing can be mixed and matched
Cons:
Staff is inconsistent
Overbearing kid-friendly rules
Parts of the site are outdated
Taking care of pets can get annoying
Plot quests will slow down gameplay and must be completed in order to fix it.
Most of the site is unusable via mobile.
Games require flash
3. Goatlings
Goatlings is a young virtual pet site where you raise goatlike creatures called Goatlings. You can have up to 15 pets at a time unless you purchase some pet slots. Unlike Neopets, Goatlings can explore areas where they will fight baddies and collect treasure! Each pet also has its own personal gallery-like feature called a treasury. In a pets treasury you can store any items you like whether it be your favorite items or items that go with your Goatling’s theme. There are not many slots in a Goatlings treasure collection but that is made up for by also having a gallery feature. Goatlings also do not wear clothes, but instead can be equipped with Appearance Dolls which essentially gives your goat a different overall look.
Pros:
Cute consistent art-style
Items are usually submitted by users as ideas or artwork
Lots of items and things to collect
Has a human avatar you can customize
Events happen regularly
HMTL page customization
Can have 15 or more pets
Games do not require flash
Hunger is measured by points not by amount of food fed
Contests
Cons:
can’t customize Goatlings
Small community (100-300 online daily)
2. Subeta
Subeta is one of the oldest games on this list, excluding Neopets. There are many items and types of items to collect, some items can also be dual purpose which does not happen in any of the entries on this list prior. There are around 50 different species of pets that can be given potions or zapped to be given different skins. With a premium account you can also upload your own custom images to replace your pets, meaning you can have a pet completely unique! There are many games to play, most do not require flash and can be played on mobile. You also can do daily quests that will award you items and Subeta Points. Besides pets you also have a completely customizable avatar that can use custom items or some if the thousands already available! Subeta has a very active community with over a thousand players on daily!
Pros:
Great art
Very customizable in general
Active community
Items can be duel purpose
Lots of things to do and games to play
Games don’t require flash for the most part
Many items, minions, and pets
Updated regularly
Pets can be put in a resort so they don’t have to be fed
Many references and silly items
Cons:
Most of the community has already been playing for years
Battle system requires a lot of training
Many different currency systems
1. Dappervolk
Dappervolk is a game still being worked on and is currently in beta. Unlike all the other games on this list, it actually centers around a storyline and is more of a RPG than a pet game. You create your own character, pick between 4 races, and do quests. The story is interesting and each character in the game has its own personality. Pets are given to you as items that need to be incubated for usually around 10 hours. These items are given to you by NPCs or gotten at chance shops. Chance shops are the only type of shop in Dappervolk, and works basically like a gachapon machine or a wheel of fortune. Once you pay a certain amount you will get a random item that is listed on each shop. Each shops wares are character based and unique. Currently the game is a closed beta and because of that, all progress made by players will be wiped for the official release.
Pros:
Beautiful watercolor/oil painting style artwork
Unique storyline with character depth
Cute and lovable characters
Good Character customization
Characters and pets have stats
Has daily quests as well as main and side quests
Unique shopping system
Cons:
Currently all game progress is for testing (temporary)
Pets take a while to incubate
This a beta review therefore anything listed is subject to change.
