So spent friday night seeing a touring production of Come From Away - geographically closest any major musical will ever come to being set in my city.
Mostly just fascinating as a cultural artifact of 9/11 - the entire play is about it but the actual events are never actually explained or even more than obliquely mentioned. It's going to be incomprehensible in a generation.

listen, if your theatre production is comprised of a cast of like maybe a dozen people total and the singular set is like, entirely boxes/piles of literal garbage/scaffolding that never moves and maybe some chairs and a couple of props that will be recycled 20 times over in different ways throughout the show, it slaps! it simply just is an incredible production. I think this is a law of the universe or something.

So there's this musical, Come From Away, about a town in Newfoundland taking in airplane passengers after the events of 9/11.
And for some reason, whenever I hear of it, in my head I picture the scene in Rarity Takes Manehatten where they're watching Hinny of the Hills
I don't know why - maybe it was because I first heard of Come From Away in early 2014 and had seen that episode recently - but that's been my mental image of the 9/11 musical for the past decade, even when I hadn't watched MLP in years.

fun fact: an interest in musicals and an interest in history go hand in unlovable hand

You know that underrated movie trope where a person/family/group does things for the community around them out of the goodness of their heart and doesn’t expect anything in return then when all hope seems lost said community finds out and bands together to help the person/family/group in their time of trouble because of how good they been to the community? Yeah, it makes me go feral every time.
