Two-way Communication
The incidence of stress causes our facial actions to take on a different demeanour as compared to when we are sincerely happy. The receipt of humour is the ideal example. The happy person receiving some humour may laugh uncontrollably, sometimes tears coming to their eyes based on the calibre of the joke received. The person with extreme levels of stress, especially for a prolonged period only manage a smile or a strained laugh. These facial cues were thought to be as a result of the emotional stimuli and were not thought of as an important part of the trigger to signal the brain to adjust its hormone levels.
The brain is an amazing organ, but when coupled with the human body, amazing becomes a gross understatement.
The brain and almost every cell in the body has full two-way communication.
So how can you tap into this communication network in a manner that allows you to have a say in hormone level secretion?

Hormones
Dopamine is the reward anticipation hormone so you keep repeating certain actions to acquire the reward.
Serotonin
is associated with memory and learning along with sleep. An imbalance of serotonin levels increases ones propensity to become angry, experience anxiety and depression and can trigger panic attacks.
Oxytocin is termed the cuddle hormone since its level rises when we make contact wit another (barring contact initiated by anger). It is the maternal hormone and is released in large amounts during childbirth.
Endorphins are a class of hormones that raise your threshold to pain and includes adrenaline. This neurotransmitter doubles as a hormone secreted by the adrenal glands.
These are the hormones with the greatest and most direct influence on your moods and therefore stress levels.
Stay tuned for more, including touching on the blood / brain barrier and the role it plays.

Mood Hacking
Is mood hacking even possible? Can I de-stress from a hectic day before I come into contact with innocent bystanders?
Before you get into this exciting topic, especially for the more mature crowd, some effort must be put into acquiring a basic understanding of the hormones the brain secretes. Then you can find a ways to cause the secretion of beneficial hormones even when surrounded by chaos.
