I will always be Adam Parrish’s number one defender. Yes, he was a complete jerk for most of the series. He was a child who had never encountered people that loved him. He didn’t know what that felt like, he mistook it for pity. Pity for a life he never wanted to live. He was seventeen, terrified of staying in the place where he was never loved. Was he an awful friend? Absolutely. There is no denying it and you can’t excuse him for it. But there has to be an understanding that he has not been loved by anyone until he became friends with Gansey. A boy living the life he always wanted. He was a jealous, unloved kid. No, he wasn’t always likable, but it would have been unrealistic for him to be any different given the circumstances that he came from.
