The Blue Blur [today VS 2019]

I haven't drawn Sonic ever since I left Deviantart about 5 years ago, between bad experiences and just growing out of interest. A lot has happened since then, I grew a lot since then. I remember very clearly the day I draw that second picture: I was heading out to my gradma in the afternoon and had set the challenge to myself to "use whatever pose and draw the guys (the hedgehog trio) by memory". Did it in about 3-4 hours. Shitty pen lining and colored over, but I was really proud of it back then - especially of Sonic's posing.

Couldn't bring myself to do the exact same pose and was tempted to use the same technique but I don't even have the tools anymore lol. But it was definetely fun to draw the guy that somehow kicked out my drawing carreer.

And hey I did improve since then aye

UPDATE 3: My cat has now pretty much recovered, he's returned to the life he had before and now it's just waiting for his system to take care of the scars and all of that. Thanks everyone again for the support and I've been working on the commissions too so all is well, wish you all the best

UPDATE 2: Another operation may be needed, as due to an overlook during the dismissal procedure (who knows if it's my family's or hospital's fault) Pisco once again ingested stuff hw shouldn't have. So if you can keep spreading the word it'd help a lot because other expenses are coming suddenly so the donations may not be enough anymore.

I won't update anymore until my cat is fully recovered and until then if you can support/reblog would be appreciated. Regardless, thank you very very much for the patience and understanding. It really helps

I'm having fun so far

Hi so I failed my exams but also I had what I think was a deserved break from it all I've also been a normal amount of obsessed with what I got for Christmas I got Pokemon Scarlet and completed the main story yesterday who wants to hear to a rewriting of some parts of it this is not an option nor a choice I'm just putting this here for myself for you that at some point I WILL share said rewriting

And I'm not getting that shiny Rayquaza in time me thinks but oh well

The long version- I'm going to assume everyone knows about everything about who these two are and the events revolving them, so if you don't this is your time to back away from spoilers.

So anyway. First of all, I personally have only played and experienced myself BW Cheren and ScVi up until the Teal Mask (completed it). I only vaguely know Cheren's deal in B2W2 and while I know what happens to Kieran in the Indigo Disk, I have yet to experience it myself. That stated, on with the theory.

While I was playing through the Teal Mask and dealing with the disaster siblings, I just felt like Kieran resembled a lot Cheren in terms of character and personality: you befriend the kid, go on about your day around Kitakami, and Kieran feels so comfortable he opens up to share his passion about the local legend, The Ogre and the Loyal Three, etc. Etc. He didn't have a friend because he struggled to even talk because of how much he was used to be put down by his sister (or anyone, allegedly), he wasn't particularly strong despite going to a battle-specialized academy in Unova of all places; he was convinced he was weak, overly dependent, and so he starts admiring the player for instead being the total opposite... someone cool af basically, living and going around indipendently, having a strong team, someone who was everything Kieran wanted to be. So much so that the moment Kieran feels like not even the player respects them, and instead downplays him and talks trash on his back (because of Carmine forcing the player to keep the truth about Ogerpon and the mask away from him, at first)- Kieran becomes obsessed with fighiting the player on even ground. He becomes jealous, envious, he wants to be as strong as the player but cannot win and that upsets him so much he goes absolute haywire with it.

And who else is a rival that gets so obsessed with the idea of power and invicibility in pokemon training because of how much he wants to prove to the player that he's worth their respect and attention? Uhmmmmm?

Cheren goes through a very similar arc to Kieran, in BW: it starts out as a friendly competition, a genuine rivalry between the player and their two close friends (Bianca and Cheren), but then he starts taking it more seriously. After all, he is the rival with the type advantage, he gets involved with the Team Plasma to show them who's the real boss along with the player but also gets frustrated about losing against them over and over again, asking how they do it. Cheren doesn't lose his shit as bad as Kieran because of two factors: he knows how to keep his emotions in check better, and the literal Champion came down to knock some sense into him. And YET Cheren still complains about not being strong until the end, admitting to the player on their last fight at the Victory Road that he just wanted to be strong so much he ended up losing himself, and now lies still unsure of what his purpose is. Hell he even shows a bit of jealousy about YOU being the dragon's chosen one, similar to how Kieran does let go of Ogerpon but is very much blatantly jealous of you for it.

They both are kids who thought strenght was all there was to them, that it was the only way to show how much they were truly worth, and end up being eaten (almost, for Cheren) by their own insecurity and that mindset turning them astray. Sure, again with Kieran things just go the extra mile but fundamentally both have a similar character arc.

And as if those were the sole similarities!!!! What about the similar hair style, similar colors? Similar attire especially for BW version of Cheren (who has the red tie AND a blue jacket like the Kieran wears under his uniform, although of a lighter color). As stated they are both very passionate about pokemon fighting, Cheren becomes one of Unova's gym leaders and Kieran... is a student of the most prestious academy for young trainers located in UNOVA.

Idk how many years have passed between gen 5 and gen 9 to tell for certain, but if not straight up Kieran's father I'm 100% confident Cheren is still related, a close cousin at most (maybe one Kieran looked up to???) But yeah, related.
