I wrote the first three chapters of That Unwanted Animal (and then some) without watching Arcane. I watched season 1 in like February and just finished watching season 2. I just absorbed from Tiktok/Tumblr/Ao3 and was in a few Arcane servers.

I’ve never watched or played Arcane. I’ve been bluffing abt knowing Silco’s character, I just cleaned out his tag on ao3 and made shit up based on snippets I figured were true based on the consistency. Idek wtf happened with him n Vander fr LMFAOOOOO

I'm alive I swear, school's just been hitting me hard and my health is struggling. Currently working on editing the 2nd chapter of Feed The Machine and hopefully will get back to working on That Unwanted Animal.

That's how I have it in TUA.

Why does everyone assume Vander would be rowdy, fun, cool and lenient parent while Silco would be soft and nurturing but the disciplinarian and overprotective one. Their parenting style is canonically the OPPOSITE to this.

Vander is shown on-screen disciplining his children for going against his rules. He's not particularly strict (I don't think any parents in Zaun are tbh I think children just kinda roam unattended a LOT) but he does have rules and expect them to be followed. He has that Stern Dad voice down to a science. He has that "I'm not mad I'm disappointed also you're grounded" vibe down pat, and he scolds them because he is worried about their safety. This is a man who is taking childrearing seriously. He's also shown being very soft and loving with them. His little smile when he gives Powder juice. How gently he encourages Mylo when he successfully lockpicks the cuffs. He is soft and nurturing. He is protective. He is gentle but authoritative.

Silco meanwhile allows Jinx to do whatever she wants. You can argue he disciplined her when he yelled at her for killing those enforcers but 1- she committed a literal massive terrorist attack that derailed ALL of his plans and he's acting like she stole his car or something and 2- what we see is not the same practiced discipline that we see from Vander. This is not a man who has established a relationship where he is the Parent and she is the Child and must follow his rules. He is emotional, almost childish, acting more like her friend or colleague being pissed off than her dad. He is not protective, he lets her play with bombs and do all sorts of dangerous shit. He cares about her safety, he's obviously distraught when she's hurt, but he cares about her freedom more. He lets her fuck up constantly without repercussions. He lets her dress and act however she wants no matter how poorly it reflects on him because her freedom mattered more to him than anything in the entire world-- more than his own, more than his dream, more than his life, and more than her safety. He also appears a lot stiffer when it comes to expressing affection, even though his love for her is obvious, he lacks Vander's warmth.

This isn't to say Silco would be a worse father or anything, rather that he is objectively the "fun dad" who lets his kids do what they want, has absolutely zero backbone, and isn't as good at expressing affection but makes sure his kids know they are loved by him.

What I'm saying is Vander is so obviously Primary Caregiver and I don't know how people mix the two up.

Just kidding! I do know. It's the classic Forcing Hetero Gender Norms Onto A Gay Couple! You know, because Silco is small and dainty, and small/dainty = woman and woman = mommy and mommy = "does all the parenting work" = nurturing, affectionate, strict and protective.

Meanwhile Vander is a Big Strong Masc Man we know That = "Real Man" (vomit) = father = "gets to be the raucous fun parent and doesn't have to actually do any real parenting" (again vomit)

Update/Progress: Feb 3rd, 2025

I am back on working on the fic. I just got out of a competition/challenge so I can focus completely on fics when I'm not working on coursework (college sucks). I have made good progress!

Unfortunately, what would have been chapter four of seven mitosised again into chapter four of eight. But I did just finish the first draft and am now onto editing. I will note that, unfortunately, we won't be getting baby Powder for another chapter or so.

All I'm going to say is this chapter's themesong is actually "Mr Fear" by SIAMES, but the chapter title is "Fair"

I will note that updates might still be slow. I'm writing for Zaundads week and the Zaundads Big Bang. But I'm still working on my fic ofc! Honestly, all the (planned) chapters are currently half-written so it's really a matter of finishing them and hoping they won't mitosis.

Anyways, yeah, it's still going and I apologise for tje delays.

Yeah, I went the opposite way in my fic. In my fic, there's werewolves, vampires, and humans all over Piltover and Zaun, the main difference is how they're treated. Piltover oppresses werewolves and vampires heavily while Zaun is very open and accepting of werewolves and vampires considering their founding.

I would have made Mel a werewolf in my fic since Ambessa is one, but per the lore of my AU, due to the influence of the Arcane/magic in her, she's a human. I decided that werewolves are more magic based than vampires ofc and i guess slightly different than the Arcane magic so the werewolf magic cannot enact on the Arcane so Mel never becomes a werewolf.

Which is also why Piltover seems more hostile to werewolves as Piltover distrusts/dislikes magic so werewolves are seen as more of a threat than vampires

I'll go more into my lore below the cut. It's still a wip and subject to change.

A lot ofwerewolves in Piltover usually work as Enforcers. It's framed as one of the few jobs actively accepting werewolves, especially during pre-independance Zaun as Piltover is highly prejudiced against werewolves and vampires. But vampire traits are easier to hide than werewolf traits.

So werewolves tend to have difficulty finding jobs due to the full moon transformations. (However, vampires tend to get worse PR) Most of Piltover's werewolf enforcers are assigned to Zaun because of Zaun's werewolf (and vampire) population and the amount of unregistered werewolves. Piltovan werewolves are required to wear collars while in wolf form, and there are a lot of restrictions against shifting in public/being in wolf or half-form. Werewolves are typically shown less mercy in the courts. Very few if any houses have werewolves, the exception being House Talis and probably others I don't know about, but most werewolves are not of Houses, especially not noble.

Piltovan werewolves, however, tend to see themselves as above Zaunite werewolves and tend to see them as feral and violent.

The dissolving of Piltover's Underground werewolf Enforcers unit is actually what causes the rise in Piltover's growing underground and that underground's animosity towards Zaun which we see in "Champion" eventually leads to the invention of "Glimmer" as a Shimmer knockoff and attempt to incite hostilities as part of the agreement between Zaun and Piltover is that Shimmer would not be allowed to be distributed in Piltover.

Vampires are typically more hidden in Piltover and more hush hush, even more fractured than the vampire factions of Piltover before Silco unified them, a step to helping them rebel. However Piltovan laws make it extremely difficult for vampires to get blood because blood parlours are illegal, forcing more Piltovan vampires to buy from Zaun's blood parlours or outright move to Zaun. Most vampires that do live in Piltover are either rich enough or have humans close enough to them to get blood from.

Relations between werewolves and vampires are even worse in Piltover than in Zaun, even worse than how things had been before Silco and Vander rose to power. As they both see each other as rivals and with envy as they believe the other to have things "better" but they're both getting the short end of the sticks

Most of Piltover's upperclass and elite are still solidly human. There may be a few vampire and werewolf Houses but tend to be lower class and rarely get any marriage prospects out of fear/distrust.

And in the first chapter of "Champion", we see how many beliefs the Piltovan humans have about werewolves and vampires that are plainly untrue/lies and also like seeing "Zaunite Vampires" and "Piltovan Vampires" are practically viewed as separate species

There's also the "Piltover has no ides of the existence of hybrids" and Viktor goes to some lengths to pass as a vampire (noting there wasn’t a "hybrid" option on the paperwork) as he's a hybrid but with more vampire traits.

The Arcane fandom loves a vampire/werewolf dynamic but sometimes it’s so obvious the only thought going into it is “rich = vampire, poor = werewolf”

Update/Progress (Jan 19th, 2025)

Hey y'all, I'm still working on my fics! They're not abandoned I promise! I was knocked out hard after finals and then started a new semester. January is shaping up to a busy month but I'm hoping to post chapter 4 by February.

I'm still slowly working on chapter 4 to That Unwanted Animal. Unfortunately, I had to split it into two chapters <3 Thank you all for your patience!

I'm planning on also editing and revising the first three chapters of That Unwanted Animal to be in line with the events/timeline I'm working with from Feed The Machine as well as editing stuff to match the next four chapters of the fic. Edits will most likely not happen until I finish the fic and the prequel but will happen before I post the sequel, Champion.

Summary: Silco and Vander are leaders of the rebellion as well as being leaders of the vampires and werewolves respectively with Felicia serving as the third leader and leader of the Humans. They revolt against Piltover and their abhorrent treatment of both Zaun and werewolves and vampires, fighting for the independent Nation of Zaun. Out of love but also necessity, Silco and Vander become mates. What follows is a collection of one-shots as they accidentally start a family in the middle of the rebellion and how their family grows but how they grow as well.
