ASSIGNMENT #1: Essay Writing
In our times, technology is defined simply as equipment or tools that can make every individual’s life better or easier, but we will start in two different but mostly asked questions by many people, “Can it make our life better or Is it a way for us to cause monsters?”
Technology is truly an advantage for all of us and It changed our world. It has benefits that can help us improve our daily lives; such as good interaction and quality communication to our loved ones that are far from us, easy access to social media platforms for us to be able to share our thoughts and opinions, saving time through technology can help us to be more productive in our work and many advantages for easy access to other sides of life. But we can’t deny the fact that it has its own downside or disadvantages that can lead us to what we call “dangerous master”; It enables us to make time for our family and a distraction for us to be unaware of our surroundings, it also can be a platform for cyberbullying that can cause psychological and physical problems of every individual and increased self-harm and suicidal behavior that can affect to many people’s lives. Addiction can be a way to make problems that can cause conflicts in the relationship you build with other people. It has the potential to make our life better but be careful because it can also ruin our life. It would appear that It can be harmful as it is helpful.
Technology is important to students, workers, business, companies and more. In short, it is important for us, but let’s always keep in our mind to embrace positivity and use our platforms to give awareness and be mindful for using our “useful servant.”

ASSIGNMENT #1: Essay Writing
“Technology is a useful servant but a Dangerous master"
Sa aking palagay, ang kasabihan na "Technology is a useful servant but a Dangerous master" ay totoo.

ASSIGNMENT #1: Essay Writing
“Technology is a useful servant but a dangerous master”
WHO MUST BE BLAME?
The key argument is that it is not the technology which causes damage to humans, but we have inflicted ourselves upon the technical phenomena and this is what is causing harm. Children are using technology more than ever before. Many of them have a mobile phone and the facility of internet and invest an hour or two in electronic social media. Technology allows people to communicate in person and online whenever they are. Everything you use has its worth. But has this allowed us to realize the pitfalls of materialism?
In the modern world, everything is surrounded by digital computers that speed all facets of human existence such as employment, connectivity, transportation, entertainment and more. It is an innovation that was created so it would largely help not only people, but the economy as well. However, study has shown that electronics are becoming more and more common. They are being used more, and they are beginning to create problems with relationships and personal wellbeing. Though it was intended to be used for good, conditions could have made a way into human interaction that adversely impacted certain people. Besides all the bad impact it has on school, social life, family communication, and addiction to the video gaming, it does influence your wellbeing by inducing severe sleepiness, exhaustion and radiation exposure. In the past when children between 4-10 were out playing in the community, though, you'd see it, but today they aren't seen outside playing like that when they wake up their phones fall into their hands—and they touch them. Not only does this, the delivery of knowledge is "rapid and wildly" causing harm to people's credibility because of the "dissemination of information" that facilitates the "influencing of others based on what they read" when it makes "no sense". Many ideas that are only understood about you or a handful are automatically known by everyone. Social networking platforms such as Facebook and Twitter are meant to express what we're all thinking, so it is unethical to use social media sites as a platform for discrediting another human online. Because of this, it is concluded that technology has positive results in human life, but they have poor effects that are not considered to be one of the downfalls and will transform a person's environment.
Without the use of the virtual world, a company will never be competitive. In today's quick-paced environment, our organization shouldn't be sluggish and left-behind. Human being's potential has been improved by enormous innovation. But have we ever wondered what our civilization has become? It is not the devices' shortcoming; it is the user's liability. Check yourself until it is too late to take care.

COMPILATION OF OUTPUTS
ASSIGNMENT #1 : Essay Writing
"Technology is a useful servant but a dangerous master."
Technology plays a very significant role in the 21st century. As the years go by, it is continue evolving and developing that is why for the human race, technological advances have made life on earth much easier. Since technology has developed, it has become useful for everyone and opportunities in media and information arise which gives benefits on the economy, education, communication, tourism and even in politics. Essentially, it gives a big impact to the world where people become more connected and united globally. In addition, I supposed that technology is indeed powerful because it does not simply help us to make our life easier, but it makes each one of us globally competitive, technology is a useful servant, but does it only bring opportunities?
In today's generation, a lot of people especially the youth are computer literate and they are knowledgeable when it comes to technology. Additionally, people are saying that the youth are very competent when it comes to this matter, the social media platforms have been utilized by the people and these platforms can be used for entertainment, communication, and information purposes in terms of news and politics. With the use of media, people are allowed to express themselves freely, give opinions, join in a political discourse, spread positivity, and encourage people in different ways in terms of education, love, life, family, career and more. In today's time, we can naturally do everything we want with the use of technology. Basically, people are the consumers of the use of technology, we consume what we see on media and we connect ourselves through the use of the Internet and when we involve ourselves with the use of technology, we have to remember that we still have the responsibility to use it responsibly. Technology is a useful servant, but it can also be a dangerous master, media creations come in different forms that influence content, but people are usually being influenced easily especially when a person who posted online is popular, the audiences will already put their trust to them and tolerate the bad content these people are posting online. People seem to forget that the media is a free platform wherein everyone can have access to the internet, they fail to remember that there are children who will use the internet might see the illegal contents posted online. In addition, fake news and click bait are all over the internet, some people are just reading the headlines but not the entire article, fake news and clickbait headlines often create panics to people, and these are some of the things that makes the technology a dangerous master. As for the consumers, they are being irresponsible for the use of media, people are not thinking if the text media or information they are perceiving is worth to gain attention. The problem is, people are being manipulated by the misuse of technology and instead of being responsible as a producer of text media and information, they are overpowering the use of technology. Technology may be powerful, but people can be the threat itself because we are the one who control the use of technology.
Technology has really empowered, and the internet has become the main usage of technology, the internet is a revolutionary innovation that breaks traditional types of communication, socialization, and information dissemination. However, as social media and the internet dominates, people seem to forget that we need to act responsible even though we are living in the internet era. We must always remember that not all the things we see on social media are right and just because we see posts online that discusses a certain issue which gained a lot of attention from a vast audience does not mean that we will let ourselves get engaged regarding that matter. Fact-checking is very easy to do and we must educate ourselves more about it. People must always think before they click, and lastly, we must learn to know the challenges, technology may bring.

Technology is a useful servant but a dangerous master
Every person has different gadgets and every gadget we use has different values that can help us to do almost everything. But, don’t we ever realized that every absorption can lead us to the caliginous side of our humanity? Because spending too much time with it absorbs a lot of time instead of focusing on our own things. Do we master our technologies today? or technologies became our masters? When it comes to learning to live in a world dominated by technology, we are opening ourselves up to a world of opportunity, connection, experience and learning at a pace and scale unprecedented. At the same time, we are exposing ourselves to a world potentially dominated by overuse, disconnect, fraud, vile and inappropriate content, predators, haters and a depreciation of self-worth.
Some people swallowed by the system of technology overused it that ends up being obsess in the gadgets some people use it to degrade other people by bullying others as a way to work through our own issues and lack of wellbeing or constantly look for the loopholes in someone’s statues update to get attention and others wait desperately to count every “like” and “share” of their latest post on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or other social media platforms. We tend to forget to enjoy our own moments to do in reality, we become depressed and worried at witnessing others achievement and goals. We compare and measure our self-worth not knowing we are too busy checking emails or newsfeeds of likes, comments, and shares.
But of course there are also peoples who are not yet swallowed by the technology and instead being swallowed by it, they turn it as if it was their servant that is finding joy when seeing what our friends are sharing and relish in their achievements having sense of social injustice ignited by the plight of those less fortunate some finds empathy from others for a shared experience and knowing when and lastly we have control on how to get back to nature and enjoy our surroundings.
ASSIGNMENT #2: Filipino Culture I like and hate the most
Filipino Values
The Filipino value system or Filipino values refers to the set of values that a majority of the Filipino have historically held important in their lives. This Philippine values system includes their own unique assemblage of consistent ideologies, moral codes, ethical practices, etiquette and cultural and personal values that are promoted by their society. As with any society though, the values that an individual holds sacred can differ on the basis of religion, upbringing and other factors.
Value/Culture of Filipino that I like the most
Hospitality the most common terminology that describes how Filipinos are; whenever foreigners visit the Philippines Filipinos are always ready to help when they seem to need help, the heartwarming generosity of a Filipino family hosting a visitor in their poverty-stricken home. the warmth and friendliness of Filipinos as they experience that feeling of “belongingness” and our legendary Filipino hospitality is not limited to the Philippines. It is everywhere wherever there are Filipinos.
Value/Culture of Filipino that I hate the most
Ability to survive Filipinos as a people who have been constantly under the rule of numerous powerful countries has over time, developed a sense of resourcefulness or the ability to survive with whatever they have. They have the extraordinary ability to make something out of almost nothing. But sometimes for the sake of surviving some Filipino people who lost their hope clings to habits that can cause their lives like hold-up, snatching, kidnap, or robbing banks, and etc.

COMPILATION OF OUTPUTS
ASSIGNMENT #1: Essay Writing
The Captain of the Ship
Way back centuries ago, the world has not been exposed to the technology. From Pre-Industrial Era, most of the things have done manually making it finished longer than expected. The tools are not that accurate may be the reason why it is harder to accomplish things efficiently. Looking forward, there are so many changes as if those existing objects in the history hasn’t left a trace. Say typewriter as an example. Typewriter is a machine for writing in characters similar to those produced by printer's type by means of keyboard-operated types striking a ribbon to transfer ink or carbon impressions onto the paper. But then it is done manually; you cannot proofread a certain task you were writing on the spot. Now in the contemporary era, the famous “Microsoft Word” has been a trend for using essays, short stories, poetry and other forms of writing in which you could save works then print as you wish to. That’s far from the typewriter we used to know. Microsoft Word has known for its conveniency that’s why a lot of people used its advantage. Typewriter vanished into the 21st century, letting the new innovative “Microsoft Word” serves the world. Technology became powerful and handy servant for people’s tasks.
There’s this big question, “why technology is a useful servant but a dangerous master?” Technology has its own purpose. There’s a boundary as to where should the technology only takes place. If it has made to be a servant, it shouldn’t defy its master—the people who make them. It has created to be the servant of the world, to contribute for a big change in the Globality. But technology being a threat as it became a master of the game is alarming. Technology has no heart. It has no feelings. It is brutal, cruel and chaotic. If one has declared that humans are the cruelest thing in this world, he/she must not have glanced the technology, think again. One must realize that letting the technology dominate their life, they already given a chance for the technology to be higher than us, the people. If one depends too much in technology, they already given a chance for the technology to become powerful than us. We must, sometimes, acknowledge the traditional and manually-based tool that used to serve our life genuinely. Technology symbolizes the storm. We, humans, are the nature. If the storm planned to destroy the nature, we must plan ahead to takes its advantage. We gave life to technology. Nature gave life to storm. Storm is just a cycle of the nature’s manifestation. It is not yet too late to introduce who’s more powerful than the other. It’s just a matter of mindset. Like a bamboo, learn to be resilient. There are still things technology cannot do—it is to control your mindset and on how you perceive the world. If you let the technology control your life as if you couldn’t live without it, that’s when the technology invades you and already became the master of your life.
We couldn’t deny that technology is a handy servant in this generation. It makes the things smarter and easier than it used to be. Technology helps in a way that it could make things possibly accessible in all forms of communication and giving information. But then, there’s a thin line as to where should the technology put its place. It should never dominant the world. Yes, its conveniency is unbelievably useful, but people should control the technology, not the other way around. Letting the technology reign the world could undoubtably result to chaos and dystopia and this is where the idea emerges that people are now slave to technology. This is where you should spit your pride, build your ego, would you let the technology leads you? Would you let that mere thing decides your path? Are you willing to be the servant? We already knew the answer. Everyone has an answer in their mind. It’s just that we are afraid that something might change. Something bigger that might affect the future. I’ll only leave this statement, “you are the captain of your own ship“, say that you let someone or something drive your wheel, it’s the fact that you already have been lost to the middle of the merciless waves of life.
ASSIGNMENT #2: Filipino Culture I like and hate the most
There are countless cultures and values that exist here in the Philippines. Since Filipino is kind of creatively devoted to tradition, cultures and values became dynamics that they continue to arise and born as time passes by. Some examples of values and cultures will be mentioned in the foreword topics.
Variety of a Filipino's Cultures and Values
1. Pakikisama
According to the results of the survey, the Filipino trait most taken up was Pakikisama. This indicates that this is a typical Filipino trait. Pakikisama refers to an interpersonal relationship where people are friendly with each other. To be with someone and to get along with each other indicates basic human friendliness and affinity. The fact that this tendency was most taken up in Filipino trait studies means that Filipinos are friendly and feel strong affinity towards others. From my own personal experiences, and accounts from foreigners whom I’ve met, Filipinos are friendly. This can be considered as a result of very friendly and amicable tendencies.
2. Hiya (Shame)
The Tagalog word Hiya indicates shame, disgrace, embarrassment, sense of modesty and manners, and to lose face. The word involves inadequacy, anxiety, feelings of timidity and reservation (Andres 1989 & 1996; Jocano 1997). Carson-Arenas (2004) defines Hiya as a spreading sense of inferiority. The trait is characterized by the Filipinos low sense of value as an individual and independence, as well as deference to authority.
3. Amor Propio
Amor propio means self-esteem, with the meaning expanding to confidence, pride, strength, competence, and aptitude that one is a useful and necessary asset to the world. According to Carson-Arenas (2004), Amor propio represents the need of the Filipino to be treated as a person, not as an object. In other words, it is the desire to be not a gear of an organization, but a person who will move the organization. Andres (1996) defines this trait as a Spanish word which literally means self-love because of Amor propio Filipinos in organizations strongly wish to be recognized as a person who is valuable to the organization. They want to be someone the organization needs, even someone the organization cannot survive without.
4. . Hospitality
Filipino hospitality is a trait that refers to the warm welcome that the Filipino gives to visitors who come to his or her home, especially strangers and foreigners (Carson-Arenas 2004). As mentioned in the section for Pakikisama, Filipinos are friendly people by nature, especially to foreigners and they offer great hospitality to visitors. This kindness of the Filipinos is one reason they are loved by tourists. It is easy to imagine that this hospitality will be exhibited not only when foreigners come to the Philippines, but also when Filipinos go to foreign countries to work as social supporters and caregivers. This is another aspect which shows that Filipinos have a vocation for social support.
5. Ningas Cogon
Ningas Cogon indicates a tendency to be enthusiastic when beginning something, but eventually losing that enthusiasm after a time. At the beginning of a task, energy and enthusiasm will gain speed to reach a climax, but when there ceases to be more excitement or challenge in the task, one will lose interest and passion (Carson-Arenas 2004, Avelino & Sanchez 1996). To be easily warmed up, but just as easily cooled down explains the Filipino trait of Ningas cogon.
Cultures and Values I like
Despite numerous cultures and values found in the Philippines, there are certain things that caught my attention, the values and cultures I lived from the start and continue to thrive this world with the principle of Filipino I adopted. These are the following:
1. Bayanihan
This trait involves cooperation and bonding with people. According to Andres (1989), Bayanihan is the Filipino value that denotes camaraderie among the people in the community and helping one another in time of need. A Filipino proverb that depicts this value is kung sama-sama, kayangkaya (if we are together, we can do it). Etymologically speaking, Bayanihan comes from the Tagalog word “bayani” which means “hero”. Bayanihan, therefore, represents spontaneous activeness to heroically help others, and Bayanihan spirit indicates the bonding of team members feelings in order to achieve a particular goal.
The fact that the word hero does not link with authority, but with the results of cooperation shows that this is a Filipino trait of a mutual supporting nature. The reason why I chose this value is because I learned to realize as I reflected that in these trying and uncertain times, “Bayanihan” should grow in everyone’s hearts. If this value achieves to discern the common goal, then our ideal system would prevail
2. Utang na Loob
It means inner debt of gratitude (Carson-Arenas 2004). This is the tendency to feel grateful to a person who has extended a kindness to them. The term indicates deep gratitude towards the person who has extended kindness, and the heartfelt wish to repay for the kindness. Mendez & Jocano (1974) state that one will feel Utang na loob, that is, inner debt of gratitude in the following everyday life situations: borrowing money, receiving food, getting employed or being promoted, free diagnosis made by a doctor. Typical examples of this trait will also be seen when a family member is saved in times of disasters such as war, fire, typhoons. To the person who was saved, he/she cannot immediately or fully repay the person who saved him/her. This person will feel that he/she can never repay with mere material items. One will feel Utang na loob the strongest in these cases.
According to Feliciano (1990), Utang na loob is an interior law which dictates that the recipient of a good act or deed behave generously toward his benefactor as long as he or she lives. This is very close to the Japanese concept of moral indebtedness and debt of gratitude. This is one of the powerful values that Filipinos have as it depicts camaraderie despite hardships and the eagerness to help despite you don’t have anything to give but the sooner days pass by, you’ll exchange the kindness. You helped someone already then gain social interaction, or even friends, that happened to the strangers not just for the people who knew each other long due.
Cultures and Values I hate
1. Bahala Na
In situations that become problematic, are unable to be resolved, and one ends up in a tight corner, Filipinos will usually say, Bahala na (Avelino & Sanchez, 1996). Bahala na, or come what may indicates the tendency of Filipinos to resign oneself into the hands of destiny or fate. This come what may will lead to Que sera, sera (What will, will be), and no matter what happens, Filipinos believe that it is the work of fate. Palispis (1995) states, that Filipinos believe in fate, and that they have no control over their destiny. Their struggling life must be endured because it is the will of God. One must remember that we should not put the wheel of our fate to any deity or supreme beings beyond us. They are true but a very powerful thing for your dreams or challenges to overcome is to let Him be your guidance with actions you must do. Better the effort to be wasted than to regret that you failed to accomplish your problem without doing your best
2. Extreme Family Centeredness
According to Andres (1989, 1996) this trait is a strong and innate characteristic of a Filipino. Wherever he or she is, family ties remain. This is the cause of trouble in international marriages between Filipinos and Japanese, because of the financial aid the Filipino spouse will extend to family in the Philippines. It also leads to the extreme way of thinking that theft is justified if it is for the benefit of the family. I don’t see anything wrong with prioritizing your family but we should remember that everything in too much is detrimental. Extreme family centeredness or “close family ties” often leads to Nepotism—the practice among those with power or influence of favoring relatives or friends, especially by giving them jobs, and Political Dynasty—typically characterized as families that have established their political or economic dominance in a province and have coordinated efforts to move on to involvement in national government or other positions of national politics that treats people prominence. It is a very strong family protection whether it is in good or bad condition and situation (consentidor)

ASSIGNMENT#1: Essay Writing
In today’s generation, technology really does play a big part especially to the youths and working adults. Technology is around us, everyday in our lives we use technology and sometimes we don't even realize that we’re using it already. We, people, tend to be more focused and we want to be updated about the latest technologies, it may be home essentials to intricate gadgets.
“Technology is a Useful Servant but A Dangerous Master”. This quote by Christian Lous Lange has so many meanings and it says quite a lot. Everytime we enjoy using technology, there are also negative effects it gives us. Sometimes, most of the people consume most of their time using their gadgets and neglect the things that they should be doing. They are being eaten by the technology. Yes, technology is good because it helps us to be more advanced and make our lives easy such as it helps our education, the industry and our lifestyle but there are also many disadvantages technology have. One of the disadvantages of technology is it takes too much time from us, just like what I said earlier, people spend too much time on their gadgets and that leads to people forgetting the things that they should do a.k.a, their responsibilities. Second, it promotes shorter attention span and distraction especially on students and sometimes it may even cause a behavioral problem. The term “useful servant” that Christian Lous Lange said pertains to the positive effects that technology has and is giving us, while the “dangerous master” are the negative effects technology can cause. Technology is a useful servant because it guides us and helps us in our daily lives and in our modern environment, while a dangerous master because we all know that too much consumption of technology can cause harm to the user and to other people. There are too many negative effects that drive people to become a slave to technology.
ASSIGNMENT #2: Filipino Culture I like and hate the most
The Philippine cultures are widely-known across the whole world. There are many cultures that are being practiced in the Philippines. Most of the culture in the country are influenced by Spanish because of the Spanish colonization back in 1565-1898. It also has the blend of traditional Filipino and Spanish Catholic traditions. But not just Spanish, Philippine culture also has the taste of western traditions due to the American colonization that lasted 48 years.
One of the most-know cultures here in the Philippines is the food culture which is the love of Filipinos for rice and their eating habits/schedule. The culture of the Filipinos that is well-known in different countries is Filipinos being hospitable, every time you ask a foreigner that had his/her vacation in the Philippines about his/her experiences in the country, the first thing that he/she will say is that “Filipinos are very hospitable”. Locals in the country are known to be very welcoming especially to the tourists who visits the country. Also, one of the known culture Filipino has is “bayanihan” where Filipinos shows the spirit of communal unity and cooperation to achieve the same goals. The “bayanihan” is known because of its representation, Filipinos carrying the bahay kubo. And also the “harana”, where man serenades a woman he was courting. Calling their older sibling “ate” (for older sister) and “kuya” (for older brother) to show respect. Filipinos also show so much respect for elders and they are very religious. Lastly, the sociability of the Filipinos where he/she shows how he/she can get along well to his/her kababayan or even to the foreigners.
The Filipino culture/value that I like the most is the love for their family. Unlike in other countries or cultures, Filipinos are also well-known for their strong and close ties with their families. The culture of other countries like when the child turns into his/her legal age, he/she is allowed to move out of their house and leave on his/her own is not practiced in the Philippines. Most of the time, Filipino child decided not to move out of the house even though she/he is in 20’s or 20’s already because they always think that they need to be with their family especially with their parents while they are growing up and also they value their family so much that they want to keep intact with them. Also, most of the Filipinos considers their families as their foundation in life. There are also types of families in the Philippines where the child is responsible enough to live on his/her own but he/she is still supporting his/her family willingly. Spending time with a non-toxic Filipino will surely give you a serotonin boost, because you will feel the joy, love and the feeling that you are accepted even though you’re not related to them by blood.
There are two Filipinos values/cultures that I hate the most:
(1) The Mañana Habit. “Mañana” is a term in Spanish that mean tomorrow. Filipinos always tends to say “mamaya na”, “hindi pa naman deadline”, “kaya ko naman yan I-cram”,”bukas na” and the most famous “bahala na muna”, which is not okay. Doing the mañana habit results to cramming, many backlogs, pending tasks, overwhelming to-do list and it also has its consequences. Losing focus and commitment to the thing that we’re supposed to do. As a Filipino, I also adapt that kind of habit but whenever I experience the consequences I immediately feel instant regret and as time goes by I became a hater of that habit. Doing the thing that you need to finish first will give you more satisfaction and time to do what you WANT to do. Avoiding the mañana habit can lead to a better outcome and will also help as a motivation to finish more of the tasks that you need to do.
(2) Crab Mentality. Many Filipinos have this kind of mentality where they drag others down just to be on top. Crab mentality is one of toxic Filipino values that Filipinos are practicing. People who have this kind of mentality is known to being bitter, insecure, selfish and thoughtless because he/she can’t accept the success of others. Instead of helping each other out, people who thinks like this drag others down. It just hinders your own growth and karma will surely hit you.

Introduction to Information Communication Technology
Digital Natives – a person born or brought up during the age of digital technology and therefore familiar with computers and the internet from an early age
ICT in our country
• The Philippines, dubbed by the most as the ICT Hub in Asia due to the growth of BPO Industries
• Time Magazine’s “The Selfiest Cities around the World for 2014” placed two cities from the Philippines in the top 1 and 9 spots
o Makati City – Ranked 1st o Cebu City – Ranked 9th
• Philippines is one of the largest countries which houses BPO centers
• There are 106.8 cellphones for every 100 Filipinos
Internet – an infrastructure that connects users together. These users may range from companies like Google, Facebook, and Twitter to end-users
World Wide Web – a huge collection of information, data, and resources that facilitates communication between users and computers. The web uses the internet as its medium to transfer or exchange data. It also uses a clientserver model
Tim Berners-Lee – created the World Wide Web
Web 1.0 (Static Page) – “readable” phase of the World Wide Web with flat data. A static page, meaning users cannot interact with the page and the page is in read-only format • Ex. – shopping carts, mp3.com, etc.
Web 2.0 (Dynamic Page) – “Writable” phase of the World Wide Web with interactive data. Unlike Web 1.0, Web 2.0 facilitates interaction between web users and sites, so it allows user to interact more freely with each other. Web 2.0 encourages participation, collaboration, and information sharing.
- the term used to describe the collection of web applications used for interaction and collaboration
- coined by Darcy DiNucci in 1999. It does not refer to a new version of the web, just a refocus of its use
- more than the retrieval of information. It is the participation in a website
• Ex. Youtube, Flickr, Facebook, etc.
Features of Web 2.0
• Folksonomy – allows users to categorize and classify/arrange information using freely chosen keywords (e.g., tagging). Popular social networking sites such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc. use tags that start with the pound sign (#). This is also referred as a hashtag
• Rich User Experience – content is dynamic and is responsive to user’s input. An example would be a website that shows local content. In the case of social networking sites, when logged on, your account is used to modify what you see in their website
• Long Tail – services are offered on demand rather than on a one-time purchase. In certain cases, time-based pricing is better than file-size-based pricing or vice versa. This is synonymous to subscribing to a data plan that charges you for the amount of time you spent in the internet, or a data plan that charges you for the amount of bandwidth you used
• User Participation – the owner of the website is not the only one who is able to put content. Others are able to place a content of their own by means of comment, reviews, and evaluation. Some websites allow readers to comment on an article, participate in a poll, or review a specific product (e.g., Amazon.com, online stores)
• Software as a Service – users will subscribe to a software only when needed rather than purchasing them. This is a cheaper option if you do not always need to use a software. For instance, Google Docs is a free web-based application that allows the user to create and edit word processing and spreadsheet documents online. When you need a software, like a Word Processor, you can purchase it for a one-time huge amount and install it in your computer and it is yours forever. Software as a service allows you to “rent” a software for a minimal fee
• Mass Participation – it is a diverse information sharing through universal web access. Since most users can access the internet, web 2.0’s content is based on people from various cultures
Web 3.0 and the Semantic Web – “executable” phrase of World Wide Web with dynamic applications, interactive services, and “machineto-machine” interaction. Web 3.0 is a smarter version and semantic web which refers to the future. In Web 3.0, computers can interpret information like humans and intelligently generate and distribute useful content tailored to the needs of users.
Ex. Tivo – a digital video recorder. Its recording program can search the web and read what it finds to you based on your preferences.
Semantic Web – is a movement led by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). The semantic web provides a framework that allows data to be shared and reused to deliver web content specifically targeting the user
Several Problems of Web 3.0
• Compatibility – HTML files and current web browsers could not support Web 3.0
• Security – the user’s security is also in question since the machine is saving his or her preferences
• Vastness – the World Wide Web already contains billions of web pages
• Vagueness – certain words are imprecise. The words “old” and “small” would depend on the user
• Logic – since machines use logic, there are certain limitations for a computer to be able to predict what the user is referring to at a given time
