I know this is going to make me sound pretensions but I have to get it off my chest. I feel an unimaginable rage when someone posts a photo and is like "this picture looks like a renaissance painting lol" when the photo clearly has the lighting, colors and composition of a baroque or romantic painting. There are differences in these styles and those differences are important and labeling every "classical" looking painting as renaissance is annoying and upsetting to me. And anytime I come across one of those posts I have to put down my phone and go take a walk because they make me so mad
#i beg of all of you to look into art history and the eras because it is actually really interesting#like please#i beg#reblog#art

Hi im being insane about chainsaw man again
There really is a lot of intention behind what each character says, especially the ones who don't get much screen time. Himeno is a decent example of this but a better example is Katana Man
What he says isn't just for laughs or a throw away line. He specifically expresses he believes Denji murdered his grandfather, likely not realizing how horrible his grandfather was. He specifically expresses in part two that he believes the Yakuza are actually the "real heros helping people behind the scenes". He believes there's nothing wrong with the yakuza, nothing wrong with owning a brothel, nothing wrong with sending a teen boy there. He is still bitter about being tied up and humiliated, to the point he HUNTS DOWN DENJIS MISSING BALL to be sure he experiences the full range of pain he did.
And I don't think it's realized what a huge impact Denji has had on Katana mans life. He lost his grandfather, he got humiliated and arrested, hes forced to work for the experimental public safety division, which as we know, the special devision strips you of so much autonomy. Hes likely kept on a tight leash similar to how power was. Hes a grown man who's given constant supervision outside of the bathroom and bedroom. That's it. They're looking over his shoulder when hes dealing with whatever businesses have been left to him, whatever money hes got, when hes reading the morning paper, making coffee.
It's also likely about his pride and feeling emasculated by getting his ass kicked by a teenager. A teenager who DOESN'T KNOW HIS NAME. Doesn't even care to learn it. Still doesn't ask, doesn't care, because hes made such a minimal impact he doesn't even remember him. I mean, thats a bruise to the ego. He's been stripped of a lot of things (I mean he can lose the clothing again imo) but he's consistently stripped of identity outside of "Katana Man" much like Denji is stripped of his identity outside of "Chainsaw Man".
Sideburns, Samurai, Katana, Yakuza, none of that is his name. He is still nameless outside of those things. That's probably to show just how little the person katana man is without the transformation has affected denji. Yet his world has been flipped completely upside-down by this kid. This boy who, for all intensive purposes, has the exact same level of maturity as him. I can go on about this pathetic guy, I can talk about how him being a katana/samurai is ironic, how much indoctrination could've happened. I mean I don't think this will be the last time we see him. He is a persistent reminder of why denji became chainsaw man in the first place. And he's got a lot to work through and realize.

The way he still comes back AFTER EVALINE IS DEAD he's just not giving up, something about the strain on him specifically made him almost invincible in his insane regen and its insane
Bosses in RE8: only need to be killed once
Jack Baker in RE7: needs to be killed in 3 seperate bossfights (garage, other garage, boathouse).
3 seperate conclusions can be reached from this.
1. The E-Series strain is significantly more resilient than the original strain due to The Connections meddling around.
2. Eveline had a smaller family to look after than Miranda + the motivation to keep bringing them back from the hive mind. This is probably the most reasonable answer because Miranda seemed like she wanted to get rid of her failchildren anyway. The implications of this are also fascinating because it means that while YES you CAN come back from the dead as a molded, you have to be pulled out by someone with control over the hivemind.
3. Jack Baker is HIM. Jack Baker is built different. Jack Baker simply is That Guy. Jack Baker has drank enough corn liquor moonshine in his lifetime to kill an elephant and between serving in the Marines and getting infected with mold, nothing is gonna stop him from getting more.

I was explaining the lore of Resident Evil 7 to my sister the other day for some reason and this is how it went
Me: so there's this house, and it's like infested with this evil mold and then infects people and turns them into monsters
Her: right like what's happening to JK Rowling

Ok I'm like terrified to step into bigger Fandom analysis but. Just once.
Katana Man is a direct foil to Denji. Both of them are directly affected by the same Yakuza, but they're treated entirely differently by him. Katana Man was given an advantage by his connections, while Denji was given a disadvantage. It directly affects how they percieve the yakuza.
They both lose the father figure closest to them. They both experience the grief. They both never get to acceptance. The difference between how Katana Man handles it and Denji handles it is that Denji blocks it off and is in denial, while Katana Man is stuck on anger.
Another foil is how they treat women. Denji puts women on a pedestal, while Katana Man has misogynistic views. Both of them struggled to view women as equals but in different ways.
I also think a lot of people aren't asking why the fuck Katana Man thinks it's okay to have Denji go to a brothel and that brings me to my next point; sexual trauma. Grooming is a very heavy theme in Chainsaw man. If Katana man thinks it's perfectly normal for a teenager to go to a brothel, what the fuck kinda environment did he grow up in? Additionally, if his view of sex is to be "cheered up", it implies that's one of his few coping mechanisms. He doesn't actually know how to deal with grief and he doesn't know how to help Denji. So he goes to the thing he does to cheer himself up. I really don't think it's just some throw away to show he's "a bad person" because to me, that just wouldn't make sense when there's already evidence to suggest he's a foil.
Someone also pointed out (i don't remember who) that everyone who hates denji with a passion ends up becoming his friend and viewing him as equal, whereas anyone who likes him idolizes him, to the point he's not really viewed as a human being. I think that, if they had to fight the apocalypse together, I wanna see it.
Anywho I'm still not over the fact he's gotten arrested twice and still hasn't gotten an official name. That's funny as fuck

FINALLY ONE OF YOU NOTICED
Specific bloopers to RE7 actor au:
Jack grabbing Lucas's arm to yank and cut across the table, the prop just pops off before he gets to cutting. Jack "Well. Guess I've cut it off too many times now..." before a long pause that sends everyone into a laughing fit (the improv did not work)
Sewer Gators, loud crash in the background because Andre fell off the ladder. It scares the shit out of Pete and Clancy
Marguerite flinging the lantern across the room and being horrified, before going up to Ethan and asking "are you alright? Did it hit you?" As Ethan is chuckling and reassuring her he's fine
Zoe "did my Danny give you a- oh goddamn it" (laughing offscreen) Ethan "i thought your dad's name was Jack, is there another fucking guy here?" (More laughing). The camera pans over to off set, where Zoe is sitting with the phone rig, laughing her ass off, head on the table
Lucas "I really need a girlfriend Ethan, can you help me find a boyfriend?" Ethan, pausing before looking up "wow, you're bisexual, I didn't know that!" Lucas "oh right fuck wait, the hell did I say?" Ethan "said both girlfriend and boyfriend" Lucas "Ah fuck, well. By the way I'm bisexual-" Ethan, losing it laughing now, as Lucas sputters over the speaker

Agree with this. I also think social isolation definitely detached him from connecting with people or really seeing more to them (see the 21dlc, with how he is about Hoffman. Its like it hardly registers that what Hoffman was saying was in honestly, not desperation to try to let him go). Was also talking with DulveyIncident about the likelihood of him self medicating and why things weren't addressed (adhd and autism can be hereditary, he likely got it from Jack)
I'm experiencing curiosity so
Lucas Baker enjoyers, what mental illnesses to you think he's coded with and why?
I've seen a few, I've definitely seen ADHD coded behaviors but I've seen a few people theorize he could be schizophrenic. I'm just overall curious to what people think and their reasons, especially since I haven't analyzed too far into it.

OK so I have the flu so if what I'm saying doesn't make sense or if I misspell shit I am sorry
I really don't like the black and white narrative many people have about the Bakers overall as well as Mia and Ethans relationship because it's just more nuanced than healthy versus abusive. People seem to misunderstand a lot of the writings and words spoken to stear it wildly one direction or the other.
I don't think Jack is a bad father but I don't think he's a great father. He has anger issues, and there's evidence that he's a high functioning alcoholic. I see people point to the "fuck you" list for evidence of Jack's abusive behavior. Its an instance showing his worse traits, smacking Lucas across the face for checking his phone at the dinner table and drunkenly taking a bunch of Lucas's things and putting it into a red box. I definitely don't think Jack is in the right to hit anyone in his family under any circumstance. I also don't think that was a normal/consistent occurance within the household. If abuse was a common place, I feel like it would be a running theme within the notes. I also think Jack wouldn't have hesitated as much as he had during the daughters dlc. I don't think Zoe would've been as horrified by Jack's actions if it WAS commonplace for him to be physically abusive.
Joe and Jack's relationship wasn't great. It certainly wasn't healthy and had issues on its own. It's undeniable that they were close or at least cared a lot about each other but a lot of what's seen is 1. Siblings rivalry to the highest degree and 2. Joe having a similar sadistic streak that Lucas did. But the difference is, Joe could and did have the ability to physically act on those impulses. It definitely normalized violence for both Jack and Joe. Jack definitely carried that rough housing tendency over and I can definitely see him being far too rough with Lucas overall, with physically labor and pushing him over his limits.
Briefly touching in Mia and Ethan; it's not a healthy relationship. Mia takes advantage of Ethans blind trust of her far too much. The fact she can use the lie of a "babysitting job" instead of, idk, say it's a job with strict NDA or something, is insane. The fact he still keeps at it after that switch up because of the mold? Its so clear theres some kind of unhealthy codependency thay Ethan has on Mia. I love wife guys as much as the next tumblr user, I do. I also think that maybe there should be an acknowledgement to just how imbalanced and fucked up Mia and Ethans relationship is.
I'm content to have civil discussion about this since I do think about it a lot and I know I can miss things in media.
Edit for clarity before this gets far: I'm not trying to/don't want to undermine any form of abuse in any way. I'm much more here to try to talk about the gray area of how things are in the Baker family overall. Family relationships are complicated, and all the Baker family members are equally complex.
