Bakugou sighs. You were always so fucking clingy in the morning, and today was no exception. So he tries reasoning with you. “I’m supposed to be at the agency in an hour and a half, dumbass.” “Don’t care,” you mumble, arms growing tighter around his chest. He turns around to face you. God. He really didn’t wanna leave, thanks to you and your messy bed head and your sleepy eyes and your pyjamas- which so happened to be one of his old T-shirts- rumpled up with sleep, exposing your midriff. He wanted to live out this moment, preferably forever. But time’s a bitch and waits for no one, so he ruffles your hair- succeeding in making it messier- and kisses your forehead. “I’ll be back before you fucking know it.”

You both know that’s a lie, but as the sun rises, painting your bedroom in a soft, golden glow, you choose to believe his words. “Fine,” you say, extracting your arms as you and Katsuki prepare to face a new day.

The low buzz of the TV. Dimly lit rooms. You curled up on the couch, wrapped up in a blanket. This is what Bakugou comes home to every time he has patrol late. He tries to tell you not to stay up and wait for him; to get a good night’s sleep. However, you’re a stubborn little thing, and so, you continue to disregard his concerns.

Your wake up at the feeling of familiar, strong arms lifting you; his scent engulfs you. It’s a welcoming feeling. The feeling of home. You snuggle further into his arms. He sets you on your bed. You sit up, rubbing your eyes.

“Shit, sorry, did I wake you?” he asks softly- a contrast to his usual loud demeanour. “It’s fine,” you say, giving him a sleepy smile that makes his heart ache. “Dinner’s in the fridge.”

“What did I say about waiting for me, hah?” he asks accusingly, although you know he’s genuinely just concerned for you. You giggle softly. “You know I’d stay up for you no matter what.”

“That’s stupid.”

“Well, I’m stupidly in love with you.”

“Go to sleep, dumbass,” he says, throwing a pillow at you as you laugh. “Fine. Just come to bed quickly so I get to cuddle you before I fall asleep.”

When Bakugou saw your caller ID appear on his phone, his blood ran cold. You never called on patrol. Something must be wrong.

“Y/N?”

“Katsuki…?” your voice called out faintly.

“Y/N, are you alright?” Bakugou asked, already out the door, the tone of your voice scaring him. “Katsuki, I-“ you said before coughing violently. “Shit, stay there, all right? Don’t fucking move. I’m coming for you.” “Katsuki, no. You shouldn’t come out here, it isn’t safe,” you said, your voice strangely calm. As if you’d accepted your fate. Bakugou hated it. “Just stay there, dammit! Wasn’t Eijirou at the fucking agency today?” he said, breaking into a run. He could hear the sound of battle now. He was close. He’d get to you. “I already called him. Katsuki, listen… if I don’t make it-“ “THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? OF COURSE YOU’LL FUCKING MAKE IT, DAMMIT! DIDN’T I SWEAR TO YOU AND SHITTY HAIR I’D ALWAYS KEEP YOU BOTH SAFE?”

You laugh weakly. “I know. I… I just wanted to hear your voice, okay? I love you.” Bakugou had begun to use his quirk to propel himself without realising. Heroes weren’t supposed to use their quirks off duty, but at this point he didn’t fucking care. “I’m right there, Y/N, please hold on okay? I love you so fucking much.”

“I love you too, Katsuki,” you said, your breaths becoming shorter, your coughing becoming more frequent…

Until there was silence. And all Bakugou could do was stare blankly at his phone screen, his heart hammering from how fast he ran to get to you. And it wasn’t fast enough. “Y/N? Oi… fucking answer me, dammit!” he yelled, broken sobs escaping his body as he refused to hang up until you said something. Anything. Kirishima’s name flashed across his screen. He numbly answered. “Katsuki… th-they didn’t make it…”

His phone slipped out of his hand as he screamed.
