Some pictures for “Gems Night Out”, an upcoming short!

1. This is a promotional image posted in the HADHS community on August 9, 2017. It features Ocean Jasper and Morion Quartz, along with Erik, two unnamed characters from the HADHS promo, and Dark Hugh. His body is pitch black for some reason.

2. One of the frames featuring Erik, the Hughs and Eli. Strangely enough, Eli has a haircut similar to Yellow Diamond’s. Posted on January 15, 2018.

3. An actual, legit frame from the short. I can only imagine Dark Hugh yelling “NANI?!?!?!” and nothing else. It wasn’t posted anywhere, but was sent in a group chat in Hangouts today(January 16, 2018).

Here’s that pearl from the recent promo!

So a new promo came out!

Judging from the title, Hugh and Dark Hugh Shorts will return in August, which is great, since this show has been on hiatus since May.

But I noticed lots of interesting and intriguing details in the promo, and I’ll try to make some speculations. Note that they are just speculations and are not confirmed to be canon, so please don’t hang me if I get some details wrong.

So the first part shows Hugh and Eli together, I think these two will get an entire short where they’re interacting with each other. Don’t believe me? The other part in the promo shows Hugh and Eli fusing, which makes me very sure that there will be a short dedicated to them and their relationship(in non-romantic way ofc)

In the second part of the promo however, we see Dark Hugh in Homeworld attire and a blue pearl next to him. I’m not sure if that pearl is similar or related to Blue Pearl from Steven Universe, but she look a lot like her. But judging by this fragment I can already see a short about Dark Hugh’s backstory, which is awesome in my opinion because he’s my favorite character.

The other part has the green semi-corrupted gem falling on the ground, most likely from being hit, which leads me to a thought that it will appear in future shorts, again, as an antagonist. I’m not really sure on who it’s fighting, but one of my thoughts is that it’s the aformentioned Hugh/Eli fusion. The other thought is that it’s Biggs Jasper, yes, that one gem who had a theme song of their own without even appearing or even being mentioned in the series. They can’t just stay unknown for the rest of the show!

And the final fragment shows two new characters in shock. They seem to be in Homeworld attire, which leads me to a thought that they were sent to Earth for a mission or were already there. However I’m not really sure since we know nothing about them, except for the looks. Now of course, they do look like humans due to their skin tone, but it’s pretty common for gems in HADHS to have human skin tone *cough cough* ERIK, ELI, KRIS, AND HUGH *cough cough*, so I don’t think they were humans trying to imitate gems or anything, but that’d be quite a twist if they were.

But I also think that the final part with these two characters and the part with the semi-corrupted gem are connected in a way, maybe these two characters got suddenly attacked by the green semi-corrupted gem and trying to fight it off.

And that’s it for now! Again, sorry if I got some details wrong, I’m not a sapphire who has future vision so don’t kill me.

k so there’s a rather cute su fanshow out there

it’s called “hugh and dark hugh shorts” and is by my homie hubaduba tron

like, the show is about two defective jaspers who are like crystal gems n stuff

they’re hugh and dark hugh and they just,, do stuff i guess?

this fanshow has this some sort of charm that makes it look much better for some reason

it has a relatively nice-looking art style for a show animated on an ipad

  So I decided to do some research on Melanite, and the pieces seem to come together.

Since melanite is a type of garnet, the properties that are attributed to garnets can also be applied to it. 

  As we know, garnet symbolizes protection, right? It is a high protection energy stone, which is especially known for protection from evil, during travel, nightmares, and from wounds.

  It could make sense, since Melanite was the original leader of the Crystal Gem Rebellion, and her goal was probably the same as Rose Quartz’s - protect the Earth from Homeworld. It could also mean that she was protecting other gems who didn’t share the same opinion with Homeworld from its wrath. Maybe.

  But melanite itself has its own meaning and properties,

Additionally, melanite is said to encourage positive feelings, boost self-confidence, provide stability and balance, and heighten creativity. 

  This meaning of melanite is rather relatable to the phrase Hugh said in this short, when telling Dark Hugh about Melanite. He described Melanite as his mother which is v sweet yknow, and when Dark Hugh asked him what “mother” means, he defined the word like this:

“...According to humans, it’s someone who cares, helps, and loves you.”

  Caring, loving and helping. These three actions usually make people feel positive feelings, such as happiness, or, well, love itself. Here’s some more, just in case you’re still not sure:

...This crystal[Melanite] carries the properties of both Andradite and Garnet in addition to its own properties. It can help you learn not only self-love but also how to love others. Melanite works well on most negative energy, even anger, to allow it to disperse.

  Judging by those properties of the gemstone, melanite is not only the stone of protection, but also the stone of love. And Melanite cared, helped, and loved the members of her Rebellion and possibly, the Earth and its lifeforms, and that’s why she wanted to protect Earth - she cherished its life as she might’ve seen it as unique and beautiful, and Homeworld successfully colonizing Earth for creating more gems is basically like telling a person that their death is soon and is unevitable.

  As we see, there’s not much negative vibes in the fan show and characters are seen to be mostly happy about their life, and most of the time it is very quick and doesn’t seem to be as important(Hugh’s attempt to fight the semi-corrupted), the only exceptions at the moment being Hugh’s resentment in the 9th short, “Hugh vs Dark Hugh”, but it ended rather quick, but still could be an exception since it took him an entire short to forgive Dark Hugh; and, well, Hugh being upset over Melanite in the recent short, “The Mother of the Rebellion”.

  What happened to Melanite though? Why is Hugh so sad because of her?

  It’s a big possibility that she could be dead and Hugh would be upset because of her death, and how Mother’s day reminded him of that unfortunate event and the fact that he will never be with her again. Or maybe she was gone and didn’t return since, and Hugh was upset because of her, again, not being with him. We can already see from this one short how much impact Melanite made on Hugh and possibly other members of the Rebellion, and her missing made an impact not any less bigger. but dark hugh is a rebel yet he was confused as of why hugh was sad so maybe he just joined the crystal gems later?

So a new short was released on Mother’s Day! I kinda expected this to happen, haha. Anyways, a new character Melanite was introduced, and she was described to be the original leader of the Rebellion by Hugh.

I feel like this short will play a big role in future shorts.

My genderswapped version of Dark Hugh wasn’t featured in the short, and I’m actually real glad it wasn’t. It just didn’t fit in. Rose’s version is times better imo -Mod Guzma

Dark Hugh: Genderswap Version!

So Hugh(Hubaduba Tron)said that he wanted someone to make a genderswap version of Dark Hugh(for the next short)

I was back home and saw it only later, but I hope I wasn’t too late, haha. 

Dark Hugh’s design wasn’t that flexible, because it still needed to have his vibe so making the genderswap design wasn’t as easy. But I decided to go with a less difficult route and added only a little bit of changes. I made his hair a bit longer and messier, also added more curvature for his body and added a short skirt for his t-shirt.

I think these were all the changes? I liked designing this thing and I hope it payed off well. -Mod Guzma
